(00:18) Welcome to the Whose Turn is It Anyway podcast. The podcast all about our gaming group and of course board games. I'm Dan, your current first player and I'm joined by players JP. >> Hello >> Rob. Hi. >> And Davey. >> Hello. >> We're talking about board games. Yeah. The usual stuff. Um, but before we get to that, how's everyone doing? >> Oh, good.
(00:39) >> Yeah. Good, mate. Good, mate. It's been a while since we sat and recorded. >> Like like stained. It's been a while. >> It's been Yeah. >> Yeah. >> It's been a while. >> Like that? Yeah. >> Yeah. It's been a long while. Just feels like I haven't done this for a while. But that's cool cuz I'm actually looking forward to tonight.
(00:53) >> I've left the country since then. You've left the country since then. >> I have. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Rob's left the country since then. Yeah, >> Davey. Uh, >> no. >> But you did you did do house. You did move house. So that was that was like moving a a country. >> That is like it is the worst stress is house moving.
(01:10) >> Horrible. >> Um but I hope you're all settled down. >> Yeah, it's done. >> Should we um should we talk about games? >> Why not run this thing? >> Okay, let's talk about Hex. This is the part of the pod where we talk about what we've been up to lately, Davey. Other than your house move, let's start with you.
(01:33) >> Well, we did get a little uh TTS sneak peek game of uh Voidfall Resurgency. >> I love Voidfall. >> Yeah, >> it's all right, isn't it? >> Yeah, >> it's all right. >> No, it's it's >> it's lush. >> It's fantastic. >> Yeah. So, we played Incursions, which is the new fancy co-op mode. um uh designed by Nick and and team, but we got to play with Nick.
(01:59)  Um so we sat down and we picked our new factions cuz let's face it, we wanted to play the new factions, right? >> Um and yeah, we we got down to it. So it's it's it's a lot more active this co-op mode than the old co-op mode. Um you kind of have to react a lot more to crisis that happen um and situations that are happening on the board.
(02:19)  Um so they voidful attack you a lot more. So, you've got to be kind of quite defensive and work as a team and think, "Okay, you're going to get I can actually take a hit this round or maybe I can lose this area this round for the greater good." >> The greater good. >> The greater good. >> Is it a new crisis board or is it same board but with new cards and >> new cards? New cards.
(02:39) >> Yeah. >> Uh with also some new like um events as such. It's the best way to describe them. They probably don't have a name um but I can't remember that now. It's like an event that happens that um you got the crisis card as well, but you've also got um like a >> threat deck and it um >> one, two, and three in it.
(02:58) >> Well, yeah. No, that's always there. So, the cards that have the one, two, and three levels are there and it will depending on your difficulty mode. >> Um but there are things that will determine whether the void are going to >> uh strike um on on top of all of the stuff that happens. And that's not the wall cards that we're talking like in the base game. just kind of happens.
(03:19)  But also, you've got the when we play with free play, you had three sections which one of them would open up as a rift gate, isn't it? As we kind of played as well, so out >> and it would spawn out void and they move around the board. And if you're the active player, that usually means they're moving towards you as well.
(03:37)  So, suddenly you think, okay, I'm going to take this section next turn and you've you've got they also have destroyers. Um and then suddenly you've got a destroyer and you know a load of uh uh corvettes right next to you and you think oh that's kind of scared that plan. So there's a lot of pivoting which >> it's quite nice.
(03:57)  Um for a deterministic game it's still deterministic but it does have a layer of randomness that also means that you have to react to situations which means you've all kind of got to put your heads together. um which is a bit more Spirit Islandesque I guess in that sense. Um >> so yeah, really enjoyed it.
(04:16)  Uh the new faction I had had to spend science rather than food um for every um food icon that they had that you put down. >> Um but my ability meant that I could I had a deck and I had a special card and it let me copy my specialty cards on that were down. Um, so when I got to play that card, I actually got to like choose what actions I had on.
(04:40)  It was like a modular card as such and I started with that with my hand. So I pretty much had like four, five texts like first round, which was quite nice. Um, >> yeah, they were cool. They were very fun to play. Um, a little bit different. Uh, JPU played >> I can't remember the name of them, so forgive me cuz I barely remember the names of the ones in the base game.
(05:02)  I just know what they do. I don't remember any names of them. Yeah. >> One of the technologies that they had that I picked was mine links and allowed you to put these tokens on your um civilization tracks on your civ board and you could pay uh an element of science uh depending on the level and if you're upgraded it you can go further up the track.
(05:23)  So you put one of the um tokens on it which has a skip icon. Um, so it just means that when you get to to that bit, you can get up the track faster, but you can pay um, yeah, this is you can pay the science to then enact that bonus early. So that's really flexible. So, you know, sometimes you're like, I just need a tech card or I need put a guild down or deployment of something and you're like, well, I've got some in my level zero, level one tiers of of my cboard where you can just go boop, pay the science and get it now >> and then you skip over it later. So
(05:54) you're kind of just pulling forward some of those benefits. It's really cool. It's really nice. >> Yeah, that is cool. >> Yeah, that a lot. >> Yeah, obviously there's new techs as well. Oh, I should have mentioned. So my tech was when um when I played a certain card type and uh I got to pay a food and at my pop on a non-corrupted area.
(06:14)  Um and then in the um in the food phase um it also I think I got VPs for science as a tech. So, uh, VP, sorry for yeah, science spent on those little icons as well as part of the tech. So, it was quite a nice little tech. Um, >> there was also one a faction that has like new installations. Um, which new installation type rather than just >> command centers or something.
(06:39) >> Command centers. Yeah. Which looked really cool. Um, >> the triangle ones. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> What do they do? Do you know what they do? >> It's something unique to them. So, they're the only ones that get it. And I think it was basically I think it was a floating it was one that could go outside of a normal space.
(06:55) >> Um and then I think it basically kind of did uh something that a star base would um but then it also had its unique ability but I I can't remember too much. Um >> it's a lot >> it was it was a lot. >> There's a lot in the base game but the base game is fantastic. So I'm looking forward to giving that expansion a swing.
(07:12) >> Yeah, it was really good fun. >> Yeah. The main the main thing with my factions power is that it links in with a psyionics um stuff. So we mentioned it when I think I did the gridcon demo, but you you have a psionics agenda slot. It's like a fifth slot slot. Yeah. >> And you can basically get psyionics agendas and put in there and they work slightly differently.
(07:34)  How you socket them is the same. They they're linked to a specific focus card. But um but when you you kind of play that science agenda in you you have a vanguard which you can put into a sector and it doubles the output for your agenda scoring. So you can really harness like where you're doing well you can really like double down on certain things but it will >> put a target on your back for the void that like increases threat in in that area.
(08:01)  Um, and then when you basically play that uh agenda, you get a thing, but you can also enact it again to get the thing again. But again, increases um the risk cuz it adds more. >> Yeah, it increases threat. >> My power reversed it. So, it's kind of like if you have it, your threat's really high. And then if you use it again, it lowers.
(08:20)  So, it's incentivizing you to get them in and use the ability twice. So, it's quite I never actually got around to doing it cuz we only literally played a cycle of the game. a bit of a test which I'm sure Dave will plug in a second. >> Yeah. But we will be playing a full game of it soon. So looking forward to getting that and we'll be live streaming it.
(08:39)  So >> um well we would have live streamed it by now. >> I think it would be out by the time this episode's released. So yeah. So you should definitely check that out on our YouTube. >> I um I could say comfortably that the base game I've got quite a large table and if you play a four player it takes up all the table.
(08:56) >> Yeah. So, I imagine with the expansion I'm going to need a new table. >> You need tables. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> It doesn't really add any extra space. That's the good thing about it cuz it's obviously the factions are what once you selected those. Um, it did has got rid of the free houses in the co-op.
(09:14)  So, you don't have the free houses. Instead, you kind of have objectives that you have to hit to get unlock technology. >> Oh, yeah. That was cool. >> Oh, I prefer I prefer that. I think they they feel a little bit like they've been pasted on those um fallen houses. Yeah. So, um instead of that, you have like areas to reach to unlock that tech.
(09:31) So, then that tech then comes into play and Yeah. >> And is it available for everyone? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. That's quite cool that I think that's that's better. >> Yeah. So, yeah. Certain ones are locked away and you just got to work together to to unlock it. So, rather than going I've got fallen house, that's now mine.
(09:47) Yeah, I did like the fact they got rid of that which >> it kind of made sense as well because if you think about it you're like exploring in the depths of the void born and then when you find some you know as such this well I suppose it is kind of like a fallen house in some ways but then you you find this tech don't you? So rather than get it straight away you then have to then unlock it.
(10:05) >> I'm looking forward to the campaign I think. >> Yeah I the same and I'm not a big campaigny person. >> No. >> Um Rob Dog what's your news man? Well, I haven't really been I haven't been a social gamer lately. I've been playing a lot of solo games. I' i've had a lot on. Um I've been busy. So, uh I've been restricting my gaming time.
(10:28)  Um so, so yeah, Mark from Ninja Geek Games is is his is uh >> that's one his plug. Um that I'm really gutted that I didn't back. I really I was meant to back it and I went to back it and it was the day that the the c the the campaign had come to an end. Um, and that's Hercules and sorry, the that's 12 labors of Hercules.
(10:50)  Um, I saw this game and I saw the artwork and I was actually quite like the solo element of this and it's dice putting dice on the cards. Um, and you reenact the 12 labors of Hercules. Um, so you fight a mythical beast um with like rolling dice and then when you when you defeat that beast, you flip the card over and it's then armor weapons.
(11:16)  It's then so so you're building your character as you're going through. Um, you do them in the same order every time and it's just, you know, see see if you can complete all 12. Um, the artwork's beautiful, cards are really, really nice. The dice are really, really nice. Uh it's a simple simple kind of you know rule set and um and actions but it's a bloody difficult game cuz it's kind of like I don't want to get hit but if I do that I you know I don't it's kind of picking which path you want um on some of them it's kind of picking the lesser of two evils cuz it's not
(11:51) just one one dice path. Sometimes you're you're you're moving two dice per turn because the the creature is like the the hydra. >> Therefore, you've got many different kind of heads attacking you. >> Um so there's a lot going on. Um but >> you're a change man. >> I loved it. >> You're a change man cuz it's just solo solo solo with you at the minute.
(12:11) >> It is. And to be honest, I'm quite liking playing on my own time scale. >> I'm quite liking playing I've only got my own diary to worry about and if I've got a spare couple of hours, >> then cool. Um, and if I haven't, then I'm not, you know, potentially having to go to games that I'm not particularly up for or something like that.
(12:31)  So, um, yeah, it's been quite nice. >> What's the setup time like? >> 2 minutes. >> Good. That's the one thing that puts me on solo gaming. >> It's card and like nine dice. Cards and nine dice. That's it. >> Yeah. >> Um, I think it's nine dice, maybe 12. But, um, I only use nine. >> You haven't got there yet. >> No, but you can make the game harder by using less dice as well.
(12:52)  There's kind of um I played on normal which was fun. I got to the sixth um trial. >> So we got halfway. >> Yeah. Is it them failing birds? The the flesh eating birds. >> There's four of them. So of course in each turn all the dices are get you've got a certain time frame to do the challenge in. And of course there's four different birds that you need to take down. I took down three.
(13:15)  The last one just just kind of p me at the end. >> Um but yeah, it was fantastic. Loved it. And I played a game in about 45 minutes. >> Nice. >> I was like, "This is fantastic." So, I'm really liking that that kind of sweet spot of I can play a game in an hour. >> I'm quite liking that at the moment. >> Yeah. >> Um, so yeah, that that's that's that >> nice. Nice.
(13:35) >> Yeah, it's good. Check it out cuz the artwork's beautiful. I'm not even doing it justice. >> It's got like gold foil on on the cards and things. It really pops, doesn't it? >> They're big cards as well. >> Tarot size ones on there. >> Yeah. So, and there's a lot of detail in there and it gives you a history as to the the kind of labor that that Hercules had, why he had to perform that that kind of tri that trial.
(13:56) >> Um, and yeah, and a bit of history, which I love. I love it. I I love ancient Greece and ancient Rome. I love the the kind of myths of ancient Greece. Um, >> you have me a gold foil. I'm a sucker. I'm a sucker for some gold foil. Gold foil. >> Yeah. A lot of fun. Check it out. Nice. Nice. Jles, >> hello. >> What you been doing? >> I we had Harken Gard on the podcast fairly recently, didn't we? And we talked about a little game called Deco >> and we brought the the game to life and well, we didn't. Harken did
(14:32) >> um and we managed to get his copy, pre-production copy, and we took it to uh Fullboard Gaming at the end of January. And yeah, I've been playing quite a few games of it recently. >> I think you've probably played it to death. >> No, I don't say to death. I've played like four or five times. >> To death, you say? >> To death? To the death? >> To the to the death.
(14:53)  How many have you won? >> Uh, none. Cuz I absolutely I'm atrocious. >> Cuz I won the first one we played. >> You did? Yeah. I I I've got embarrassing scores of zero. >> Wow. >> Three. >> Yeah. >> 21. Less embarrassing. >> Zero. >> Oh, yeah. >> How did you get zero? >> Cuz I crap at it. Let me explain the game to people because like what what how come you suck at this game and you'll realize because it's it's basically poker.
(15:18) >> It's so much more than that. >> But it's more than poker. >> It's so good. >> Um very quick synopsis cuz literally listen to the episode. It will tell you more about this game than well I can do it justice. But it's poker and deck building fused together in this um kind of wacky game but or wacky in the the greatest way.
(15:39)  And you basically start off with a a deck of 14 cards that has pairs from twos to eight, I think. Is that right? Seven pairs. >> Yeah. So, you got 14 cards. They're all the same decks everyone starts with. >> And so, yeah, you you you have a blind just like in in poker. So, you don't have a big blind and small blind, you just have a a blind and someone has to put that in.
(15:59)  And then the house always puts um uh the minimum bet in as well. And so you're starting off trying to make uh the best hand that you can from, you know, you draw five cards and go, "Right, this is what I have." So you're likely to get at best what, two pairs, something like that because your starting deck is a bit shoddy. >> So everyone has each individual deck.
(16:18) >> They have their own deck, but it's all the same. So everyone starts off with the same um premise. Okay. >> Um so you play the game, play your round just like in normal poker, and you call, you raise, you fold, all that lovely stuff. Um, and then basically whoever wins wins the money. Nothing new there, right? That's poker.
(16:35) >> Well, each individual deck completely changes the odds, but yeah, like poker. >> Yeah. >> Is >> sort of. But um but what happens is if you come second, let's say you you don't win, you actually in this game don't always want to win because your hand generates you money. Um, so if you, let's say Dan's got, uh, two pairs, um, you know, >> looking at my hand again.
(17:00) >> Yeah, exactly. You got two pairs, you got eights and sevens, and I've got, you know, two pairs of twos and fours. Dan will win the part. >> Mhm. >> But I'll get to go shopping. And on two pair, I think you get $2. And then there's a market of cards. >> And on there, the market there's a bunch of different cards that you'd expect like 10 and other things, but they are a bit weird and they're cool.
(17:21)  So, some of them are like vouchers that if I buy it, I get extra chips. Happy days. Some of them are actually a pair of cards on one card. Um, some of them are are queens that will mean it you can use it as a queen or whatever uh as on the top of your discard pile. So on and so forth as there's so many cards in the flop deck which allows you to just start curating your deck into certain things.
(17:43)  Are you going down the flushes route? Are we going down this route? Whatever. >> Nice. >> So you do that. You also can buy jokers. So, you have six joker types that are all um kind of geared around the actions of the game like fold, call, raise, deal, etc. And uh you use your chips to to buy the joker.
(18:02)  They're your victory points. Um and the jokers then just add the like the twisty fun break rules stuff. So, it could be like when I fold, I get to steal some chips off other players uh that have more than >> swap my hand with someone else. >> Yeah. all sorts of fun and games. Um because normally when you do fold in this game, it's not actually a bad thing cuz you get a card for free from the market.
(18:25) >> Yeah. Okay. >> So, actually folding is not awful. >> Normally in like poker fold, lose money, but this is actually I want to fold because that card >> is perfect >> and I've got crap hand is crap. I'm not going to win. I'm not going to generate enough money to buy it. So, I'm just going to get it now and I'll sit out.
(18:42) So, you can kind of do all that. Um, what's quite fun is there are wild card rounds in the game and you know what they are and you can see there's little cards that sit above it and it will say like um one of them that we had was you had to use three cards from the flop to basically get your hand and so you're like okay and you you kind of then build your deck towards it.
(19:07)  So you because it ends up forcing a lot more um money in the pot. So the ante goes up and you know so have the flop, the river, and the turn. >> Well, it's not Texas Holdem, but you you've got the flop is the market that you buy from. So, typically, you're using what's in your hand, but there are things that will twist that game up.
(19:23) >> Okay. >> So, suddenly one of the rounds might be you have to use the what's in the the five cards in the flop. So, >> okay. >> Um, and then you got other ones, which is if you play a card with number uh with the numbers and someone else has the same number, they cancel each other out. That's quite fun.
(19:41)  So, you end up with I've got this mega hand. And it's like everyone's turning it all over and it's like no, I've got a three. Oh, you win on a three. So, it could it's just really like it's it's a game that's like I call it a party game because there's a bit more to it than that. But the point of is you you're racing to 60 chips.
(20:00) It's like first to 60 VPs wins, job done. Or you go the distance, whoever gets the most. Um but it's just fun. >> It's just really fun. It's just >> So, do you still bet normally like poker or no? >> Sort of. >> So, you can you can you know, let's say your minimum bets one. You can only raise by one each time.
(20:22)  You can't just go all in. >> Yeah. >> You can't do any of that. >> Um and there is a maximum bet >> and that will increase as the game goes on. >> So, that's like your timer. >> Yeah. There's a timer to it. So, it it's a poker game that doesn't last six hours. >> Yeah. Cool. Um, and there is an end to it which is usually depending on player count, hour to 90 minutes.
(20:41) >> Okay. >> So, you can get a couple of games. >> We didn't take long when we played it, did we? No. Not very long. >> You had an amazing combo though, didn't you? >> I did manage. I don't know why. But like, you know, like when like Neo sees the Matrix. Yes. >> It was like that. I just smashed this. It does not does not happen automatically at all.
(20:57)  And I just I just saw all the NS and ones come together like, "Okay, that worked." And then and >> because I was winning all the hands and I looked over and he's got a stack of chips. I'm like, "What?" >> Yeah. Built an engine to get >> and Yeah. And then it was like, "Oh, you don't actually want to win all the hands." And it was like, "Oh, yeah.
(21:11)  This is this is different. This is cool." >> Yeah. It's not Yeah, it it's very familiar cuz those who play poker know how to play it after the game. You just need to Okay, what's different? >> Um, but no, we introduced it to one of the new members of our gaming group who's not really, you know, familiar with like heavy games and stuff.
(21:29)  And it was a really it's a perfect game to bring him in because it's like here play this game you know poker right cool. >> Did he enjoy it? >> Yeah. >> What of us? >> Yeah. He really enjoyed it and we again we played two games in one evening. So it was like look play a game if it doesn't go to plan we'll just rerack >> which sometimes it doesn't >> and it doesn't and that's why I think that game I got nothing.
(21:50) >> That's was bizarre >> because you can just lose >> Yeah. your your chips, but >> you can take a loan and stuff, can't you? Which you're then you've got to pay that back. Yeah, >> it can happen. And you think you're doing well and someone just pips you and you go, "Oh, that one I actually wanted to win cuz it's one of the uh the ante rounds, the wild card rounds and really >> Shouldn't be too long till the Kickstarter Max a few months away.
(22:12)  Not shouldn't be too long." >> Yeah, I think it's coming releasing the summer. >> Yeah. Nice. >> But I'd re if it sounds interesting to anyone like I' honestly check it out. I think when it comes to retail because it's just >> check episode out. >> Yeah. And check the episode out and Hawin does a good job of bringing it to life better than me in the last five minutes.
(22:31)  But um but yeah, I just wanted to kind of round that off cuz now I've played it a few times and yeah, I can't wait to get my own copy. The pre-production copy we got was great, >> but there's not enough Jokers in there. And I know there's more. Yeah, >> there's more things. There's more stuff. And yeah, I'm looking forward to just seeing what happens.
(22:46) >> I say the elephant in the room. It sounds like the board game version of >> Don't say it. >> Don't say it. >> Don't say it. >> You're not allowed to say no. >> No, it's that we've not said it yet. >> Don't be that guy. >> I'm not allowed to. >> Don't be that guy. >> It reminds me of >> It reminds me of >> Texas Holdem. Yeah, sure. Yeah.
(23:02) >> Right. >> Yes. >> Palatro. >> Yeah. >> Great game. >> Yeah. So, yeah, it's it's very familiar to that. Um, but obviously we're multiplayer and you're playing against other people. So, >> yeah. Yes. >> So, you can bluff and you can still do all that stuff. Sounds even my alley really. >> It's cool. Try it. >> Very good. Very good.
(23:19) >> What about you, Dan? What you been doing, man? >> I've been going old school. I've been playing Cavverna. >> Old school. >> That is old school. Um I play >> dwarf and a gricular. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um the one that's not so cardy, is it? >> No, it's tiley. >> It's tiley. It's very tiley. >> Um but I played a two-player version of it.
(23:40)  Uh where it skips around because you play two player, it's slightly slightly shorter. It skips round nine. Uh, and I also played a fourplayer version of it as well. And I really prefer it at a higher player counter count. I mean, Curley would agree. He'll never play it at seven. I actually like playing it at seven.
(23:56)  Um, because I know there's a lot of downtime. There is a lot of down time, but I find that Cavverna is my Sunday afternoon chill game. >> Yeah. Some people Yeah. Some people like Wingspan for their cozy game and and that's okay. Um, but Cavverna for me is my Sunday night cozy game where you've got a stack of friends around the table. you got, you know, you got your you got your Pringles in, other chips are available.
(24:17)  Uh, and that's that's the game I like to play. Um, so I if you play it four players, I mean, if you haven't played Cavvern or you don't know what Cavverner is, where you been? It's basically UA Roenberg's big big brother to a Gricola um where you're a bunch of dwarfs and your board uh is separated into two sections.
(24:36)  It's a dwarven cave uh and a forest area and your job is to furnish both sides of the board and it's worker placement. Um, and it's and it's old school worker placement as in if you go there you block the space and that's it's gone away unless you go imitation but that cost you food uh to imitate the space but um each round a new a new action space comes out and after so many the person with the most points wins.
(24:56) It's easy. It's not as cutthroat as a grier. >> No, >> it's not as cutthroat. I do find that when you're at a higher player count, when you've got multiple people who have got like four or five dwarfs, that by the time you get to the last two rounds, that board does get busy and it is difficult to try and find the right spaces that you want cuz everyone's trying to get those best spaces before the game ends.
(25:20)  Um, and you don't get that in a two-player. And I like I like playing a two-player, but I much prefer higher player counts. Four is nice. before they balanced it for player counts. So, and I I think lesser player count, you still get just nearly as much choice with the board. Not a lot of it shut off, is it? Some of it. >> It adds more boards as you go as you increase the player count.
(25:39)  So, if you're playing with seven, the board's massively to accommodate for all those all those players, but um but then when you're playing with four, there's only two imitation spaces. One at a two food cost, one at a four food cost. So, if you're having to luck out, you really want that space that someone has taken, but you, you know, you have to pay for it. Sorry if you want it, cough up.
(25:59)  Um, and that's a, you know, a difficult puzzle to try and get around when you want it, whether it's worth it or not. Um, but I like the fact that Cavono, you don't have any like fireplaces or cooking hearth like you do in a grica. You can just chop and chop and change whatever animals you want, whatever food you need to satisfy the uh the end of the round condition and the harvest, >> which I quite like that.
(26:20)  Um, so it kind of takes away that difficulty away. Um, but the tiles are never they never change. So a Gria is a lot more customizable because that deck of cards is huge. >> Um, >> it depends on which deck cuz there's five or six. >> Oh, there's loads. There's so many. Um, but then if you, you know, with Civera, you don't have any of that.
(26:37)  But then sometimes you don't want any of that. You don't want any of that complex complex, you know, nature of those cards. You just want, okay, I know the tiles. I know which ones I need. Mhm. >> I've played Civera probably on essence of about 30 times, maybe even more. Uh, and I can say that every time I play it, I always play it the same way.
(26:54) >> I always score between 62 and 68 points. >> And I'm happy with that. It's we It's weird. It's like It's like watching Terminator 2. It's that comfy movie that you know has got the perfect level of action that you just love. And if you go and if it's on ITV 4 >> and you put it on, you you're going to watch it.
(27:12)  You've seen it a hundred times. You know what's happening. You know what's happening, but you you're comfy. >> Yeah, >> Cavverna is my comfy. >> Sounds more like Groundhog Day. >> It it's a sun. Yes, it would. But to me, it's just it's comfy. And lo and behold, the I played with the two-player the two-player game.
(27:28)  Both I didn't score very well. We both scored 58 exactly the same. 58 tie. >> Wow. >> And there is no tiebreaker in Cavverna. It's just you share the victory. >> Thanks you, you copout. uh with a four player. Um >> it should be who Shaw >> wins. >> Wow. Yeah. Wow. >> It's a dwarf joke. >> Dwarf joke. Yeah. >> Um >> no, sorry. I correct. We I staggered.
(27:51)  It wasn't a four play. It was a fiveplayer game. It was five player. Okay. Um and um I came I I came like second to last. Curley came last. >> Um I know horror. >> I mean he came last. Um but um >> what happened? >> He just couldn't just didn't happen for him. He said he said he always tends to struggle with that game and doesn't seem to I think he needs to play it more frequently to to kind of get better at it.
(28:11) >> Um I think I scored about about 605 again. It's always between 62 and 68 and I always go the same way but I look at my board and go I'm happy with that. >> It's weird. >> Nice case. >> It's weird. Yeah. Yeah. But it's Yeah. I He will never play at seven player but sign me up. I love playing at high counts.
(28:28) >> I've never played it. >> I have you played a Gria? >> Yes. >> Did you like it? >> Loved it. >> Did you? >> We played a two-player and it's fantastic. Oh, Gri as a two-player game is great. >> It's very good. >> It's um it is cutthroat even at two. I think it's cutthroat at two. Um I've played it many of times with um Jack, friend of the pod at two player, and he I watch him get I rate some of the places I wanted that space.
(28:51)  Now you've ruined my whole strategy. I'm like wood that's a griggler. Yeah, it's that one wood. It's the one wood space and >> Yeah. Yeah. Yoink. Yeah. This is why I'm first player. >> Uh and yeah. Um but um yeah I I recommend I recommend >> give it a go sometime. >> You'd like it. It's the same >> when I want to start socializing with people again.
(29:11)  I'll give it a go >> rather than playing solo. You can play solo, but I it's much better with others. >> Obviously the only thing is with with a vera is when you first play it and you look at the sea of tiles that are in front of you. >> Yeah. It's overwhelming, isn't it? >> You're just like what? Where where do you go? You know >> can't be any worse than Feast for Odin.
(29:28) That was that was >> true. Feast for worse. Yeah, I loved it. I sold my copy of it. It'd be fine then. >> I sold it now. >> Um, for me, it's just not as accessible as as Cava. Cavvern being the most accessible. And then a Gria, but um it doesn't mean I don't like it anymore. I just couldn't get it to the table anywhere. It's not It's not as friendly.
(29:48) >> The Norwegian expansion definitely balances things out. >> Oh, in Odin. Yeah. >> Yeah, it does. >> Yeah. It's a patch. >> Yeah, it is. >> Yeah. Um, but I still I said it before, I'll say it again. I still want to give Laava a go again >> and me. >> And I might just get it one day. Get it and then I'll I'll I'll trust me.
(30:06)  You'll be the first person I message. Yeah. >> And we'll set a game out. We'll do it like it >> is. It is It's old, but it is it is good. It's classic. >> It is good. >> Um good old UA. >> Good on him. Good on him. >> That's it. >> Nice. >> Um that's that's the that's the recap done, guys. Should we go on to the main event? You have no idea what it is.
(30:23) >> I have no idea. >> No, but maybe um maybe it has a weird Okay. So, this episode, folks, has a win condition. >> It has a win condition. All right. It's a game, is it? >> It's a game. It's a game. You know how I like the wing con is though. >> Um, you won't know what it is, but I will explain a little bit to what how it's going to work, and then by the end of it, you'll either be really confused.
(30:55) You won't be. Uh, or you'll be up for it. You will be. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Here we go. So, in front of you uh are six envelopes labeled 1 to six. On the back of each of them, there is a topic um of conversation that relates somehow to board gaming. >> Oh, we've just gone ASMR. ASMR. >> That was the envelopes. >> We will roll a dice to see which person will be the first to select the first envelope from the center.
(31:18)  Uh that person will open it, shuffle its contents, and hand each person one of the cards contained. Um, this selected person must also kick the conversation off. Okay. >> All right. >> Of the cards contained, your card will either have the words neutral player written on it, meaning simply join in the conversation any way you like, u or will have the word defector written on it, plus an explanation on how you win this conversation.
(31:47) >> Okay. The defector will have to try and get their card completed within the time limit without being caught. All players will then vote on who they think the defector was. For example, the envelope reads, "Discuss games that have a red box." Three cards will have neutral player written on them.
(32:08)  One card will have defector written on it. And its explanation could be suggest three games in this conversation that are not red, but you're convinced they are. All right. Um, important notes. Uh, because I'm the first player of this episode and I've written this episode, I can't vote, uh, or offer any suggestion on who I think the defector is, but I can be voted for.
(32:31)  Okay? So, if you think it's me, you can vote for me. >> Um, if I've successfully identified the defector in my head and I've worked out who it is, I won't tell you. Okay? So, you can't I can't help you. Um, after voting, if the defector remained undetected, they will score one point. If they are if they successfully completed the task on their card, they will score an additional two points.
(32:53)  So, three points up for the defector. If the neutral player successfully identify the defector with the most votes, each person who guess correctly will earn one point. The person with the most points at the end wins. It's as simple as that. >> Sure. Additional rules may be added to the cards that you might not expect.
(33:12) >> Oh no. Engine builder, is it? >> My decision on points is final. >> Strip off. >> Not again. Last time, Dave. Goodness sake. So, with each envelope, you've got 10 minutes. >> Oh, 10 minutes. Okay. >> It's like Crystal Maze. >> It's like Crystal Maze. >> You are Richard O'Brien. >> Have you got harmonica? >> I was going to bring Mumsy, but she wasn't keen on coming.
(33:37) >> Now, that's a reference. That is a reference if you're of a certain age. >> Yeah. If you're if you're of the younger variety. >> Stuart and you I know you're listening and I know you got that reference. You cheeky s. >> Um shall we? Right. Rob, shuffle the envelopes. >> Oh, we're not going in order. >> No, there'll be a die first.
(33:54)  You can shuffle them for us. >> Listen to the mic. Uh let's listen to the shuffle. >> Dave, roll the dice. >> Oh, I'm going to roll the dice. Right. >> Is it What is it? >> It is four. >> A four. Okay. Well, pass me the dice and I'll roll. Who has highest goes first? >> Two for you. I roll a one. That's not me. >> Rob dog.
(34:13) >> Snake eye. >> A five. >> A Rob. >> Being that you're the shuffler, continue shuffling that deck. Uh, and when you're ready, choose one >> and then read the conversation topic on the back out loud down the microphone >> using ASMR. >> Shuffling anything other than cards is so cumbersome and awkward. >> You're doing it pretty well.
(34:33) >> You're doing all right. >> You got smooth hands, Rob. I just thought you >> Why you watching my hands are smiling? >> I got scared. >> You can't You can't see. >> No, you haven't. No, you haven't. You just dropped one. >> So, you can't see this listeners, but Dan's putting a lot of effort on this episode quite clearly.
(34:51) >> It's not It's just a bit, you know, it's production level. >> It's just a bit of sticky bag plastic. >> I mean, that that this cost you alone like four quid, right? This is a This is at least £44. >> It's even got stamps on. >> It has. He's basically got a, you know, a card at Staples, a discount card, right? >> I had to claim my loyalty point somehow.
(35:10) >> Yeah. >> Anyway, what we got, Rob? To eat or not to eat? Board gaming food etiquette. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Do I open these now? Dan, >> open the envelope. >> Can't see. You got a packet of crispies he's talking about. >> There are four. Um, don't try not to look at them too much. Hand one to each player, but don't try not to, you know, show it to everyone.
(35:31) >> All right. It's quite faint. >> Oh, it is faint. >> Yeah. >> Right. Everyone know what they're doing? >> So, you can't see it through the back, right? >> Correct. >> There you go. There you go. >> Clever. >> Yeah, it's not. It's just gray ink. >> Did you run out of toner? >> It started off black.
(35:50)  In one of these, it's going to be black ink and then it slowly gets >> My printer always runs out of ink. >> Yeah. Just like seven pages. I'm out again. >> Yeah, I'm out. Yeah. Um, okay Rob, because you roll the highest number, you will start the conversation off. Your topic is, as you said, to eat or not to eat. Board gaming etiquette.
(36:08) >> I don't have a problem with people eating. >> Mhm. >> I have a problem when people don't wash their hands. >> So, like messy food. >> Yeah. >> Like what? >> Like ribs. Like ribs. >> Tell us what you had for dinner. >> I had some ribs for >> I'm a little bit jealous. I'm a little bit jealous of the ribs.
(36:27)  So, I did some homemade ribs and I may have got a little bit of sauce down me. So, I came with a little bit of a wet top cuz I had to leave in quite a hurry. So, I was like, "Yeah, excuse me. I've been eating ribs at home." >> But it's fine. You're not >> I don't think anyone's eating ribs over board games, right? That'd be the worst.
(36:40) You >> disgusting. You done a curry once. >> Did you? >> I did. I did have I did do a curry. Yeah, but we ate it to the side of the board game, right? I remember you having a plate perched on the corner >> I do remember >> of my gaming table as you were just kind of hovering over and everyone was just looking at this curry going >> it was >> it's going to go in isn't it? >> It was to the brim as well.
(37:03)  It was to the brim >> like the curry to to plate ratio was I should have had a bowl really cuz of it was a Thai curry which the touristy ar Yeah. Yeah. So like you could see the plate level where it was dangerous probably eclipse or something. >> It was it was >> also something expensive in large. >> Yeah.
(37:23)  Yeah. I want I purposefully knocked over Eclipse though. >> But there are there are like other more commonly based snacks that you could eat around the table rather than a bloody curry. Dave. >> Yeah. Some finger food. Right. So like what's it always the worst, right? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> What other What other crisps? >> Crumbly even like Doritos.
(37:42)  And what do I do after I eat Doritos? I lick my fingers, but then I go and wash my hands. If I see someone lick their fingers and then like so their fingers are clean of food. >> Yeah. >> And then they're like going through cards. Oh, no. No. Freaks me out. >> Other crisps are available. >> Yeah. Like American version.
(37:58)  The Cheetos, of course. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. Just stuff like that. Anything with anything sauce based, heavy sauce based. I'm like, no. >> What's your favorite crisp? >> I do like a cool original Dorito. Do you do? >> I do really like Cheetos. >> Do you? >> Yeah, I love Cheetos. >> Cheesy balls. >> Cheesy balls. >> Cheesy balls.
(38:15) >> Cheesy balls. >> Bro, I bet you got some cheesy balls. >> Why? >> The [ __ ] Where the [ __ ] DID I COME FROM? >> WHY YOU GETTING Why are you getting defensive? >> Why are you getting defensive? >> Why am I being attacked? That was [ __ ] weird. >> You do like cheesy balls cuz when we went to uh America >> Yeah.
(38:33)  Me and your son bonded over the cheese. >> Yeah. They they they basically bought we went to Target literally when we landed went to Target >> and got some food and there was this ginormous jar of cheesy balls >> like big plastic tub like the old school sweet tub that they used to take off the take off the shelf and then weigh some out >> and it lasted two weeks and then my son and Rob were just eating cheesy balls for two weeks.
(38:55) >> Cheesy poofs. >> Great. >> I don't know how many were in there. It's like guess how many cheesy balls. >> Oh, there must be like 500. >> Was it like branded? >> Was it like the Cheetos brand or nothing? >> No. No. It was just like Target's own. >> They're not my They're not my favorite kind of crisps. >> They weren't mine, but I mean, I had a good time.
(39:10) >> Yeah. Yeah. Fair. >> Yeah. >> But there you go. >> Etiquette wise. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I I don't know. I think it's just it's I keep going about just don't be a dick. >> Yeah. >> It's like like just just be mindful. >> Don't have a curry. >> In fairness to you, Davey. >> Yeah. You you you ate it and you didn't spill it.
(39:33) >> Yeah, I was mindful. You were very mindful. It was very d It was a dangerous game. Everyone was looking at you. >> But we've had we've had instances with with tea and coffee. I've had coffee going since I drop a pizza. >> Yes. I dropped pizza on Battlestar Galactica once. No one lets me live it down.
(39:52)  Um I know it's like an outr. >> I didn't know it was you. I just remember the story. I wasn't there. >> Yeah. Drop pizza. Would you would you would you eat like food? Would you like would you normally commonly eat food around a board game table or would you wait and not bother? >> Like if I'm doing a games day then yes cuz you're there a long time you need to eat.
(40:13)  But if I'm there >> what about like grazing though? Would you do crisps all day and you're happy with crisps? >> I'm I'm all right with crisps but I tend to like Rob is like one hand is the crisp hand and the other hand is for my cards right until I'm finished and then I need to go and sort out the crisp hand. It's got dust all over dust.
(40:29) >> I'll quite often fold them up. So I'll have like a handful and then I won't have any more for a while. Then I'll have a handful and I'll go and wash my hands like in between. So >> yeah, I think just washing washing etiquette, isn't it? Just >> I can't stop eating crisps. It doesn't even I don't have to be a board game.
(40:44)  I love just crisps >> all the time. >> That is my chill. >> What's it? >> I just got I've got cheaters on the brain now. I can't think of anything else. Um, what what crisps are there? >> I mean, >> kettle chips. Am I chips? They're the messiest ones though, aren't they? Right. Stuff like that. The dusty ones. >> It's the dusty ones. Nothing like water.
(41:03) >> Kettle chips or kettle crisps? >> Kettle chips. >> Chips. >> Not They're not called kettle kettle crisps. >> No. >> I like the fact we we've turned from etiquette to just talk about >> What's your favorite crisp talking about? Yeah. >> Jeez. >> Pringle. >> Pringle. What flavor? >> Barbecue. >> Barbecue. Solid. Davey.
(41:23) >> Cheetos. Yeah. I just love it. >> You love a Cheeto. You're a Cheeto guy. >> Cheeto guy. >> Prawn cocktail walkers. >> Well, that was a good crisp. >> Oh, that is a good Chris. >> It's It's unique to the UK as well. >> It's very unique cuz >> I tell you what, the Audi ones. >> No, they're amazing. >> Audi the flavor on the Audi ones is unbelievable.
(41:39) >> No, don't agree with that. >> It's not a Cheeto. It's not a Cheeto though, is it? >> No, exactly. >> I agree to disagree, sir. >> Mine is the sour cream and chili red >> kale chips. >> Oh, nice. But not but not but not a target cheesy ball. >> Very good. The chili and sour cream is a nice melt in your tongue combo.
(41:59) >> Oh, you you can't have one. No, >> you just can't do it. >> No. I I haven't had that crisp in a long time either. I forgot they existed. >> I want I want to know what our listeners think currently to what our podcast is. >> It's become a food. >> It's been reduced. >> It's gone off the rails. >> It's gone off the rails.
(42:14) >> This is your This is your car, mate. We're just in it. >> Where? What can I say? What can I say? >> James a Caster and Ed Gamble. Now it's off the menu. >> Yeah. is I've never listened to that. It's not that good. No, >> it's not that. It's not that good. You know, >> it has the odd moment. It has the odd moment.
(42:29) >> Yeah. Okay. Um, does anybody The timer is currently left at 3 minutes. Does anybody have an inkling about who the defector is? >> I think so. >> Yeah, I think so. >> Okay. Um, so are you all happy to end the conversation and take a vote? >> Yeah. >> Okay, let's do it. So, vote. So, I can't vote because I know who you all are.
(42:51)  Um, so, um, three, two, one, vote. >> Oh, we've all voted for each other. >> We got Mexican standoff here. >> Okay, Rob, why do you think it's JP? >> Cuz he kept on he kept the conversation on Crisps. >> He kept the conversation on Chris. >> I like Chris and then he like every time we were about to move on, it came back to Chris.
(43:11) >> Okay. >> Okay. >> That's just more about my character. >> JP, you're pointing to Dave. Why do you think it's Dave? cuz he kept banging on about Cheetos constantly. Cheetos. Cheetos. Cheetos. >> This This is absolutely carnage cuz I know I obviously know what the correct answer is.
(43:26)  David, why do you think it's Rob? >> He kept talking about washing. >> Okay. He did like wash wash got wash my fingers. >> Okay. Okay. >> That's interesting. >> That is interesting. Okay. So, um Rob, can you reveal what was written on your envelope? >> I am a neutral player. Okay, congratulations. Well done. >> If you need to see it, I will open it.
(43:49) But I am a neutral. >> Really? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, he is a neutral. I can confirm that he is neutral. Yeah. >> Um, so um Rob, you pointed to JP. >> I did. >> And the reason why you pointed to JP cuz he kept going on about crisps. JP, what was written on your card? >> The factor. >> Congratulations. But >> but not for the reasons that you said.
(44:06) >> Not for the reasons you said. >> What was your reason on your card? It basically said whenever the first time Cheetos is mentioned, ignore it. And when the second time is mentioned, say cheesy balls, which I did. I said, we have more than one defector. I didn't know this was part of the game. >> I did say that the rules will change.
(44:25) >> So Dave, >> I'm a defector. Yeah. And basically, every time Crisps is mentioned, I have to say Cheetos. I I hate Cheetos, by the way. >> Do you? >> Yeah. I hate them. >> That makes sense cuz it triggers off this. >> Yeah. Yeah. And then Dan kept saying crisps. So keep mentioning chia. >> So you did detect one of them, but you detect you failed the research.
(44:46) >> I've only got one vote. So you also only got one vote. Uh so um so in that instance, you did manage to successfully achieve your condition there. So three points to each of you. >> There you go. >> Well done. >> There we go. >> How many do I get? >> None. >> I I outed a factor. >> But you didn't say why.
(45:04)  Well, you did say why, but you didn't get it right. >> Oh, fair enough. You just said crisps. >> Just said crisps. And I mentioned crisps a lot as well, >> but I'm just trying to throw you off. >> Yeah. >> Um, >> now you, now listeners, now you know what you're in for. >> Now you know what you're in for. Okay, David, yours will turn next.
(45:18)  So, envelope is yours. >> Let's go for the top. >> All right. Why not? >> How long should a board game session last? >> Good question. >> Yeah. So, open them up. >> It's not always about the time, is it? It's about the quality of time. >> That's what the wife says. Okay, so I've handed the paper out and everyone's looking at their rolls.
(45:41)  There we go. We've read our rolls. >> Yeah. >> So, how long should board games last? Well, I think they should last however long that they need to take in my personal opinion. So, like I don't I'm not strict. As long as no one's got a time schedule they got to keep to I'm people start chatting with her. We're there to socialize as well.
(46:03)  like as long as no one's kind of taking the mick with it. >> Yeah. >> Evening games is a bit different. Sometimes we kind of get get our heads down and play. But an ex like an expo game, we usually have a bit of a laugh in between. We'll chat like you've got more time to be able to play with. So you will be a little bit more lax with how long you're going to take on your turn.
(46:25)  You know, depending on the game as well. I think high intensity game, high complexity, sometimes you're not even thinking about anything else, like let alone have a conversation with anyone. You're thinking, "What am I going to do next?" while your brain's melting out your ear. So, that's my answer, I think. >> Fair enough. >> Yeah, >> fair enough.
(46:42)  I don't go to many conventions. Um I don't have time. >> You do have board game days, though, don't I do have board game days and I get I don't know if I find I'm very relaxed like to the point like where I can take too long cuz I want to try and get the game done quickly so that I can then move on to other things other games of the not other things.
(47:01) >> Get out of my house crochet anyone? No. >> Got to get get the dinner on. >> Get the dinner on. Chris, no. Um >> cheesy balls. >> Cheesy balls. >> Cheesy balls. Rob, how long should a game last? >> I think it depends on I don't think I think a bit like Davey. I think that >> anyone's ever said that. >> I know. I'm shocked myself.
(47:28) >> First time. >> I think it depends on the game. I think a lot of it is kind of what you think the game or what you know the game is going to take. So, if you know a game is going to be six hours, you're probably >> six hours. that long. >> What are you playing? >> Bones. >> Six hours >> can do. >> Jeez. >> Um why I've not signed up to that game.
(47:52) >> Playing Elder Scrolls for two days. So, you know, 6 hours is short compared to that. >> I thought it was three days. It was only two days in the end. >> Two days. Two days. Friday. >> It felt like three, >> but in a good way. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> I I think if you're if you're prepared for a game to last three hours.
(48:05) >> Well, that's a random time frame. >> And then it goes for five or six >> when you play. So, >> I think that's the problem is that you you if you know in advance how long a game's going to take and it takes about that time, then that's cool. >> You've changed. When would you pick a game that plays for 6 hours? >> When? >> Yeah.
(48:24)  When >> with you? >> I suppose. Yeah, you did. >> That was Elder Scrolls though. That's dungeon crawler. >> Yeah, >> that's the exception to the rule. Like another game. Would you play any euro for three to six hours? >> Yeah, I've changed. I've leveled up. >> Yeah, you have. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Fair enough. >> I'd play Nucleium.
(48:43)  I'd play Nucleium for days. >> Yeah. Fair. >> I love it. I'd play um >> still need to play the expansion. I haven't played the expansion. >> Uh Curt Horror. I play that for days. >> Mhm. >> Like Yeah. So, >> is that minutes or hours? >> Sorry. >> You all right then? >> Yeah. You >> Yeah. If I am saying >> your head is really shiny tonight and it's like the light reflecting onto your head and back into my eyes.
(49:09) >> Yeah, but rather than it glaring, it's more like a he's it's like a >> and they call me Richard O'Brien, right? Just saying. >> It is like a puzzle from like an adventuring game on like the Xbox where you have to angle the mirrors in the right to create a beam of light >> or like Zelda.
(49:26)  Yeah, it's one of the old Zelda puzzle rooms. There's a scene in the Mummy where they light the tomb and you actually see the beam go through. >> I wonder where that glare was coming from. It's bouncing off yours to dance to JP's to my eye. >> There's no light on in this room, >> which strangely unlocked the back doors. >> That's not a you from this is your birthday. Um, no.
(49:46)  Yeah, I I I I'm don't really care how long a game takes as long as I'm prepared going in. >> Sorry, you had something on your mic. >> Thanks, mate. I don't know anymore. >> I I don't know. Yeah, that that that's my opinion. If if you're given a if you're prepared for the time frame and it's within that time, then then cool.
(50:04) Any if it's a 2hour game that goes on for six hours, then you kind It's painful, isn't it? >> Depends what it is, I guess. >> Exactly. >> You mentioned Khora. I've not played that. I'm dying to play it. >> I'd like to play it. Yeah, >> I love it. I think it's great. Every time I play it, I have a really good time with it.
(50:19) >> My favorite experience of that game is when Davey was working uh during a game of Cutnah Horror. So he had his laptop >> casually a day off, >> but my boss basically went, "I've messed up the time schedules and I got called in on my day off, but I was like already there like with a game." So I just like >> he's taking turns and doing it tickets like in between his turns and then he lost.
(50:40) >> Yeah. Yeah. >> He wasn't paying attention >> cuz his attention was divided. >> Yeah. But he didn't do badly. He didn't do bad. He just didn't win. Yeah. >> How long was the game? Only >> a couple hours. >> It was quite a while. >> Are we all ready to vote yet? Yeah, >> there are three minutes remaining on the clock.
(50:57)  We can still tick those down or we can vote now. >> I can vote. That's fine. I >> vote. >> Okay. All right. I'll stop the clock. >> All players, >> we got one vote. Yeah. >> Or one vote. >> I have to be right with the explanation as to why. >> Yeah. Good luck with that. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Near enough. I mean, if the uh if you're pretty close to it, then yeah, I'm pretty pretty >> I'm pretty I'm pretty pretty reasonable guy.
(51:19) >> See what happens. >> You ready? Yep. >> 3 2 1 vote. >> This is interesting. Okay. So, obviously, you can't you can't see what they're doing. >> So, um Rob, you've pointed to me. >> Rob, you've pointed to me. >> Yes. >> JP, you've pointed to me. Dave, you've pointed to JP. Let's start with Dave. Dave, why do you think it's JP? >> Cuz he didn't really say anything about the his own opinion, and we tried to drag him into it, but he didn't really get dragged into anything.
(51:47)  So I think it basically was like try and not say your own opinion on this matter at all and just defect away from it. >> Okay. What's written on your card? >> My card I'm I'm neutral. >> He is neutral. Correct. He's neutral. >> Yeah. >> Um >> JP. >> Yeah. >> Um >> without telling me about who why you think it's me, what's written on your card.
(52:06) >> Neutral. >> Neutral. So you're wrong. >> Um why do you think it was me? >> Because you kept sighing every time someone said how long a game was. >> Okay. And you kept stroking my mic for some vague reason. >> My ASMR. >> I can't tell whether that was just some sort of weirdness or >> something on the top. >> Yeah, sure.
(52:27) >> And on the mic, >> but but yeah, you kept going every time someone mentioned a game length. >> Okay. Um Rob. >> Yes. >> What's written on your card? >> Neutral player. >> Okay. So, yeah, I was the defector. Yeah. >> Why do you think I was the defector? >> Just cuz you were more random than normal. >> That's not an answer.
(52:46)  I I think you had to interrupt I think you had to kind of interrupt uh a thought or or a kind of um you had to kind of hijack. >> Okay. Um JP, you are wrong. >> No, you're kind of on the money and Rob's not on the money. Um so because you mentioned one of the things listed that I had to achieve, you will score a point for that.
(53:11)  You you're doing lots of things but I managed but I didn't >> the microphone thing is >> but I didn't get away undetected. So uh you are right and you are you were yeah you were correct in picking me as the defector. So my mind had read uh defector whenever someone specifies a time frame out loud I must say and do one of the following and I must have completed this list.
(53:34)  So if someone says uh a time I could have I have to say sorry how long? >> Yeah you did say that long. Uh, I had to do this. I had to look at my watch or my phone. Um, which I pretended to look at the watch. I'm not wearing one. Um, >> it's probably why I didn't realize I had I had to also say, is that minutes or hours? >> Yeah.
(53:52) >> I had to huff loudly. >> Yeah. >> I also had to go Well, that's a random time frame. I just said that to you, Rob. >> Uh, and I also had to touch someone else's microphone around the table. >> So, I had to do the whole list. >> Yeah, I got two of them then. >> So, you got a couple. Yeah. So, that's a that's worth the point.
(54:09)  Uh, so well done. You got a point. >> I was quiet. I did. Oh, I didn't say anything. >> Um, but however, I didn't I didn't I didn't become undetected cuz you got me. So, right. I've picked envelope number one. Um, favorite game to play on holiday. >> Ooh. >> Favorite game to play on holiday. >> Okay. >> I went on when I'm on my honeymoon.
(54:29) There was a couple that were there at this all-inclusive um and um they were playing Bat Gam and nothing else. And I'd say, "Oh, what you playing there?" "Ah, back and it's our holiday game." >> That was the holiday. >> There you go. So, >> me and my partner, we played shut the box for hours. So, Oh, yeah. Yeah.
(54:47)  It's quite a good game. >> Yeah. But we had dice and bits of paper cuz obviously I didn't have a box. So, we just had to use this like notepad. >> It still works. >> Yeah. Exactly. >> Still works. >> And Prudo with with with strangers. >> Yep. >> Bit of lies, dice. >> Just handing out. >> Here we go. >> Open the envelopes.
(55:06) Open the >> start the fans, please. And the timer has start. Favorite game to play on holiday. Oh, I've played lots of games on holiday. Um, >> sex games. >> Six. >> No, no, none of none of those. >> Well, like Speedo Banana Hammock. >> I mean, we I've just come back from Disneyland. >> The squirrel. >> I just hide the sausage.
(55:30)  Uh, just just play just been back from Disneyland Paris. And double was the was the game of choice because it it's >> I can literally hear Tambo throwing up in his mouth then. That was weird. >> Does he not like double? >> Oh, he hates it. >> I hate double. >> I'm not a big fan of double. >> I love double >> anymore. >> I love it.
(55:43) >> I respect it. >> Yeah, I respect it. >> I don't like it. >> It's the biggest game in France. Like it's like, you know, I when I >> Have you played Double Beach? >> No, I haven't. But I know it. Yeah. >> Yeah. It's quite good cuz it's laminated. >> It means you can chuck it in the sea. >> No, it will float back and you can wade it through Tambbo's vomit. Yeah.
(56:03) >> It's good cuz then you know how like games and sand and [ __ ] like will get in the way. It's just Yeah. It stops it. >> Stops it. >> Yeah. Do we >> do you know how do you have a way of doing that? >> What? >> Not go to the beach. >> Oh, do not like sandy beaches. >> You don't like the beach? >> I don't mind sandy beaches, but I I couldn't think of playing a ball game at the beach. It's not really what weird.
(56:23) I'll probably go like in get an inflatable go in the sea or like surf or like do something to do with the sea rather than just >> you could play in the sea. >> Yeah, there you go. We play too many bones in the sea. He can but the things will just start like drift drifting away. >> That's a lot of money floating away right there.
(56:38) >> It's like like freaking driftwood just going off like out of the way. >> I hope man's gone into dangerous water. What's he chasing? Oh, there's too many bones. >> Gear lock. Where where's the ty the tyrants wading off >> like can we can we go and get a drum back? >> I don't get these references cuz I've not played too many boats cuz I won't sit there for 6 hours.
(56:59) >> What? You've never played? >> No, it's quite a long time. I don't think it's my sort of game though. >> Definitely wouldn't take it on holiday. >> Dungeon crawlers anymore. It is >> not a big fan of dungeon crawers these days. No, >> it's not dungeon crawler. >> Well, it's es journey crawler. >> It's a journey.
(57:14) >> It's basically the same thing, >> isn't it? When I was young, I used to have travel editions of Monopoly, Junior Monopoly, and Cludo, possibly another one, but there were like they were small hard plastic ones with with drawers. >> Yeah. >> And they had all the miniature components in the drawers and the board would sit on top and it would and it was that was my holiday game when I was a kid.
(57:34)  Those three I would take those three and they would stack on top of each other. They were really, really nice and lovely sets. Those would go on holiday with me as a child all the time as a child. Um, but I wouldn't >> No, not as an adult. Do you want to play Monopoly as an adult? >> [ __ ] please. >> No, the other game play as a child. It's those it's those three.
(57:53) Um but or card games, Nick Holiday. >> Yeah, card games were a big one. >> Seeing that though, now that you mentioned Deco might be one could be one for holiday. >> What's the the other card game that you had that reminded me of uh [ __ ] which I don't know. Um >> it's a great game. It's like a cards game where you play the suits that have powers.
(58:14)  You have to get >> flip seven. >> Flip. No, not flip seven. It's the one where the it's quite you roll out the deck. >> Avangard. Oh, a card. Yes. That's That's a great travel game. >> That's a great travel game. Yeah, we played that many times on holiday. >> Still play on the beach though. >> No. No. Well, >> you probably could actually.
(58:30) >> No, you couldn't because you know how the box rolls up. Yeah. >> And just get all that sandy [ __ ] that just kind of >> You lay a mat down, wouldn't you? >> Yeah, but come on. Been on the beach. >> Carpet. I've been on the beach a lot of times. How many times do you get sand? >> I can't I can't imagine. >> Why do you keep obsessing about sand? >> Cuz you get it in your [ __ ] >> He's obsessed with sand.
(58:49) >> No idea. >> I'm like Anakin, doesn't this >> I don't like sand. Gets everywhere. >> But if you put it like Oh, it just pisses you off. It's all scratchy. I to be fair it does it does get everywhere. Get everywhere. >> Would you prefer to change the topic of conversation and rather go from sandy beach go to like a swimming pool? >> Swimming pool. Yeah.
(59:10) >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Would you rather move on from Would you rather go there? Let's go. Let's go there. >> Let's go there. So, would you What we talking about again? So, now we're talking about travel games in in a pool instead, right? >> You could be in a pool on holiday and play a game in the pool.
(59:24)  I'm not sure what >> but play by the pool. I've played games by the pool, >> but not in the pool. >> Not in the pool. I think people also there's a social etiquette about you playing a board game in the pool. >> Can you imagine? >> Yeah. >> What are you playing? Hero Quest. >> Roll the dice. Oh, no. has got into this the pool.
(59:41) >> I' I've I've come suitably attired in this. I'm just wearing nothing but drugs. Do >> you know what would be good though? Do you know sometimes the pools they have like a bar that's in the pool that you can come up to? Like if you'd rocked up to one of those and then just set up a board game on top of the bar while you're buying cocktails.
(59:56) >> The barman would probably look at you a bit weird. >> He might get height involved. >> Especially if it was Germany. >> Yes. Very true. They do like a a selective garment for their uh >> That's a European thing. >> That's what I mean. Like European. Exactly. >> Yeah. >> That's >> Sand gets everywhere with those, doesn't it? >> No, you're mentioning sand now.
(1:00:20) >> I was talking about speedos. I was getting all wanky. >> Um Rob, you've not said much on this topic. No, you're a bit quiet like I was in the last round >> cuz then I cuz I'd have to talk over one of you cuz you lot don't shut up. >> Oh wow. >> Shots fired. >> Got offensive over here. >> This is why he plays solo games.
(1:00:38) >> This Yeah, he's got myself for 4 hours. It's great. Um flailing his arms around. >> My favorite ever game that I've played on holiday, which is slightly different to travel game. It's too many bones. >> Yeah, it's true. >> We took it to France. >> We did. >> How though? cuz you got so much >> and it No, I I've got it.
(1:00:57) >> So, um >> he's got the travel version. >> I got the travel version, >> which is just the the standard base box. Um but it pissed down the first day we were there. Absolutely pissed down all day and everyone moaned that they had nothing to do and me and J just sat there for too many all day. It was amazing.
(1:01:12) >> And none of the family were getting annoyed with you cuz you were doing that all day. >> No, cuz they were on holiday. So, >> they were reading books. >> They were reading books and on their phones. >> Where were you in France? >> Uh the do. >> Okay. >> Oh, nice. It was lovely. The first day I just absolutely lashed down all day so we couldn't really do anything and we driven down there so we were all tired.
(1:01:28) We didn't really want to do anything. >> So yeah, we just played too many bones. But >> I also took Mythwind to Memphis and we played that four nights, three nights, four nights. >> No, I think it's two but played four games of it >> and I loved it. I thought it just chill just that that kind of just relax after a day.
(1:01:46) >> Yeah. Like >> would you play on a beach? >> Low stakes. >> I wouldn't play on a beach. But >> why is that? >> Is is that because you get sand in it? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> There's a lot going on on that. You know what I mean? >> Is that in case it falls into a river and it's a bit like driftwood that goes along.
(1:02:09) >> Yeah. Three people are talking about beaches and Rob's like he's that guy who sat in the corner like Yeah. I have no idea what's going on. >> Your face is pissed. So yeah, but I mean card games. Me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me and my family now trying to trying to bring this back on track.
(1:02:27) >> Harbor of chaos. You can't >> I'm the harbor of chaos. >> Where would you take these card games? >> Where'd you go? >> Bridport. West Bay. >> Beer. >> Beer. >> Beer. >> Do you see a lot of driftwood at beer? >> Way mouth. >> Way mouth. way mouth. >> Anyway, carry on, Rob. >> So, we've made every time we go away now, we try and buy a deck of cards at the at the place that we've been.
(1:02:57) >> Oh, that's cool. >> And then >> they got to be linen and boss. >> So, we end up playing shared. We end up playing >> I love shared as a game. >> Go fish and 21 and stuff like that. Yeah. >> There's 45 seconds on the clock. Are we all ready to vote or do you want to continue? >> Yeah, why not? >> Having a conversation about holiday games? >> No, I think I'm I'm ready to vote.
(1:03:18) >> I think we're done. players. Then let's vote. So, uh, I will count you in. >> Three, two, one, vote. >> Okay. Um, so Rob's pointing at me, Davey's pointing at JP. JP's pointing at Davey. Um, Rob, let's start with you. You're pointing at me. Why? >> Cuz I think one of your words was as a child. >> As a child. Okay.
(1:03:43) >> Um, what is written on your paper? I am a neutral player. >> Okay. Okay. So, very good. So, Davey, your point to JP. >> Yeah. >> Why do you think >> I think you had to mention sand and driftwood? >> Okay. >> That's a bit weird. That's a fair shout right there. That's a good shout. >> That's weird, isn't it? >> Okay.
(1:04:08)  Um, can you reveal what's written on your paper? >> I am a neutral player. >> You are a neutral player. Okay. Very good. No one's pointing at me. Uh, so I can tell I can say to you, well, no one's pointing at me now. You were pointing at me. Um, but I can say that I was also a neutral player. Uh, sorry, Rob Dog. So that means JP, what was written on your card? >> Um, I had to say the word speedos five times.
(1:04:30) >> I think I got might have got it in. >> I think you got it twice. >> Well, I did some, but you lot were talking at the same time. >> Oh, no. Convenient. >> I couldn't get a word in, but you had I had to say the word Sandy in a conversation three times. Oh, I didn't realize this, but I only had to say driftwood once.
(1:04:50) >> So, I over the fact that you got you got on it straight away. You're like this driftwood. >> This is mine. >> You know what I was going to do? I was going to start singing Travis. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> But I didn't. >> You didn't go undetected. >> I forgot how many times I had to say. >> Driftwood went by, right? It literally went by like a piece of driftwood cuz it it fit in with the whole too many bones floating away and then you just went driftwood.
(1:05:19) >> How am I going to say driftwood? I thought I had to do the wall fight. >> Dave, I'll give you that. So, one point to you, >> Japles. You've got the envelopes. Give him a shuffle. Pick one out. >> I'm going to pick this one. There's number five. It is board game accessories. What do you use to pimp up your play sessions? Pazzled.
(1:05:38)  Uh, let's start the timer. Go, JP. You'll start the conversation off. Go. >> Yes. Uh, board game accessories. Um, we Yes, I like them. You could say a board gaming table is an accessory. It's probably the biggest accessory for your board game. >> It's one I can't afford. >> It's And it's >> Is it really though? I say it's more furniture rather than accessory.
(1:05:59) >> I mean, I would say an accessory is something you can probably put in the box. >> You can't I can't really take less. >> It's more It's more paraphernalia. It's basically your drug deal. >> But I suppose inserts then that's your classic accessory. >> Um, we all like a classic insert. >> I like a 3D printed insert.
(1:06:20)  I do miss my 3D printer, but it drove me insane. >> What color do you use for? >> Um, I used to have all colors. Um, like I had I had them all. I bought I bought like a wood one as well. So I bought like a wood one and then I bought like each color. I use white, black, red. >> I always thought blue was the best because it's basically not any color that I would pick in the game.
(1:06:42)  So like all my inserts used to always use my blue filament on my 3D printer. >> But then if you would use I don't know if you were like you got the game like Fog of Love. >> Yeah. >> And you 3D printed a blue insert. It look ridiculous. You'd want a red one. >> Why would Why would that What? >> Yeah.
(1:06:57)  But it wouldn't But it wouldn't go with the theme of a board game, would it? It would look silly. You'd want a red one in there. >> Why? >> Love. >> Because it's red for love. Yeah, but I'm not buying new filament just to [ __ ] print a board. That's >> you. He's quite defensive on that. >> He gets a bit about his filament. >> Yeah.
(1:07:17)  Then you get another filament that >> Yeah, >> I I've heard that about it. >> I mean I I personally I would go with red, but then you know I wear a lot of red, hence my cap and my top are red. >> My socks are green. They're not red today. But if I could I would wear red. >> But your player color is not red. >> No, it's yellow. >> Um but my second accessories is always red.
(1:07:34) >> Is red. >> Yeah. >> Is red. Yeah. >> Okay. It's very uh very strange. Thank you. Thanks for that. >> I the the kind of for me I I'm not a big blinger of games, right? It's pretty obvious. >> Becky will be fuming. >> Becky will be fuming. But I have purchased a couple um of upgrades. One of them being the um exhaustion tokens it for captain's share.
(1:08:01) >> Yes. to simulate the the ticking of cards. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. >> How many? >> 12, I think, come in a set. >> What color are they? >> Green. No, blue. What color? They're blue. They are blue. They're blue. They're the um captain insignia. I I remember the outside color. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> So, >> well, Star Star Trek be blue, aren't they? >> Yes, but you can get different ones.
(1:08:24) >> Oh, can you? >> Yeah. Okay. >> So, it would make no sense of them being red then. It would not >> unless you're a Klingon's red. >> Oh yeah, >> Klingan Empire personally I think. But the ships are green. >> They were green. >> Yeah. >> But you know Davey loves blue and and Dan loves red. So >> and I can see a rainbow.
(1:08:45) >> So interesting. Yeah. >> Red and yellow and pink and green. Orange and purple and blue. Um, I I I like blame that that's functional. Seriously considering about getting the upgrade for Nucleium, the the ones that you can get on Etsy. >> What color are they, Rob? >> I can't remember. I think they're green.
(1:09:07) >> Okay. >> Green. Um, but yeah. So, cuz green's obviously the best, but also I can see it better on my >> Green is the best color. Let's get this right. Green is the best color. I think you're done for accessories. And I can see it on my table, which >> you want something that's not usually in ball game. Yeah.
(1:09:26)  Which could Which usually is blue. >> Yeah. Right. Okay. >> It should be red because red's the color of freaking fire. >> I think you're talking rubbish. >> JP, what's what's your view? >> Uh, I don't know anymore. >> Driftwood. >> I've created a monster, but nobody wants to see Jay Pedo Bar. What? Shady up chop liver. >> You're not sure anymore? >> No.
(1:09:53) >> It's not sandy color. >> No. >> We're about halfway down the timer. Are we ready to vote or would you like to continue discussing the topics? Ready to vote. >> Okay. All players, three, two, one, vote. >> Wow. Okay. So, three players are pointing to Davey. One person is one person is checking their card.
(1:10:14)  One person is pointing to me. So, Davey, let's start with you. You're pointing to me. What does your card read? >> My card reads neutral. >> Convince all players that blue colored accessories are the best accessories. >> That's what my card reads. >> Okay. Did you convince anyone? >> Uh, no. Like that's that's not an easy thing to do cuz I don't even like the color blue and everyone at this table knows that.
(1:10:42) So, it was it was it was a hard cell. >> Unlucky. Dave, you pointed to me. Yeah. Yeah. Why did you point to me? >> Just I cuz I had to point to someone else. And yours maybe revolved around bringing up color. >> Cuz color in general? >> Yes. Uh color? Well, well, red. >> Red. >> Yeah. >> Really? He never mentioned it.
(1:11:01) >> Yeah. >> Okay. Rob, >> you pointed to >> Davey. >> To Davey. >> Yes. >> Uh why? >> Because I knew that he was trying to convince people that blue is the best color for accessories. >> Okay. Well, based on his card, you're right. So, well done. Because >> what does your card say? >> You are the nasty. >> That's what I was reading is cuz mine doesn't say defector.
(1:11:23) >> No. What does it say? >> Convince everybody that green is the best color. And Dave Davey did agree that green is the best color. >> Mine is my favorite color. >> Yeah, >> you did. >> And he did agree that >> but it does say all players unfort. >> And did anyone point to you? >> No. >> No. So you have gone away undetected.
(1:11:40)  It is a defector card and you are you have managed to get away undetected. But it says all players. >> It does say all players. >> I think that's quite hard. >> You said you said green. You didn't put >> It's never going to happen. >> So, but I'll take the points. I mean, I'll take the win. I'm not above winning.
(1:11:55) >> I mean, you got two out of three. I'm I'm pretty happy with that. I think I think that's yours. >> JP, what was your card? >> I was neutral. >> Neutral. >> Yeah. >> And you pointed to me. >> No. Pointed to Dave. >> Forgive me. You pointed to Davey. Why did you point to Dave? >> Trying to take shade off this.
(1:12:08) >> I don't know. >> Obsessed with blue. >> He's obsessed with blue. >> Yeah. I think everyone got some blue hard and then you going so hard on blue. I was like well there's two here and >> so basically I was the only neutral player and you were trying to convince colors but you did say green and I think is he got the green one but you weren't >> lucky you're wearing all red and his was red, right? >> Yeah.
(1:12:28) >> Is this why you were wearing red tonight? >> No, this is just coincidence. >> Coincidence. Yeah, it's just absolute coincidence. Yeah, I think it's the first thing you mentioned when I walked in the door red. >> If yours was red, it would have been all right as well. And if mine was green, I think it would have been all right.
(1:12:41) Especially as I'm sitting with the green mic as well, >> but we were never going to win that argument between us. >> No, no, absolutely not. My favorite color is yellow. >> Yeah. >> So, there we go. Right. Okay. Um, Rob Dog, back to you. >> Two envelopes. >> Two envelopes remaining. Select one. >> Um, right.
(1:13:01)  So, wooden, cardboard, or plastic? Which is better for what? It doesn't say. I was about to say >> I'm assuming board game related. >> Yes, absolutely. >> I'm equal rights. Dan, you can ask modern plastic >> or cardboard. Yeah, better. >> Cardboard will disintegr. Rob Dog, you start this conversation, please. >> For me personally, I I assume we are talking in a board game setting.
(1:13:36) Absolutely pieces. Absolutely. >> Not in any other. Ignore David. >> Yeah. Ignore his hyena laugh. >> So, I think for me, if we're talking pieces, I'd probably say wooden. >> I do like a wooden piece. >> Do you do you like a wood piece? Yeah. What sort of wooden piece are you? >> Now, he's working out why why I selected this topic and didn't write board games on it.
(1:14:00) >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, no. For me, like a lot of upgrades. Um, and a lot >> Do you like wooden pieces? Really? That's a bit of a weird thing to choose. I don't think I own a game that has a lot of wooden pieces. But if you think like Descent, >> sorry, >> you've got Endeavor. >> Endeavor. >> It's all wooden pieces.
(1:14:18) >> No, aren't they the >> You paid for the upgrade. >> Oh, they pay for the upgrade. Screens. >> Yeah. Silk screen. >> Yeah. Yeah. No, I just a lot of them moved over to the eco plastic stuff as well, haven't they? Like >> recwood and re Have you ever handled a plastic mele? Plastic mele. Yeah. Like Yeah.
(1:14:37)  I've rolled them in the games. >> Yeah. Um rolling. Yeah. Rolling. Plastic meeples. Yeah. >> And a load of older board games all use the, you know, >> Dino Island has plastic mele. >> It does. The hooligans >> and Dino World as well. The other one >> has plastic meles. >> I I like wooden pieces board games. I do >> personally.
(1:14:58)  I think I think if I had the option to go >> for any of those, it would be wooden. >> Why? I like the way it feels. >> It's a bit aggressive. Dave, chill out. >> I just wonder why. Typically, they're a little bit heavier, which I quite like. And I like the feel of them. >> Feels better in your palm. >> Remember, I've got to edit this. >> No, I'm a genuine question.
(1:15:21) >> Oh, okay. >> Not in my palm, though. >> In his fingers. >> Fingertips. Yes. >> Fingertips. Yeah. >> Can't help yourself, can you? No, he can't help himself. I can't work out if he's defector or he's just being Dave. >> This could be Davey or defector. That should have been the better game. >> Yeah. >> Or Davey.
(1:15:40) >> Um >> that's a whole episode. That is >> That is a whole episode. I want to write that one down. >> Yeah. >> Next one. >> Yeah. >> Also, there's a game that I back Trouble on the Tempest and you know the the deluxe upgrade was wooden pieces and I see why cuz compared to the plastic ones, they just don't seem as nice in my in my opinion. Yeah.
(1:16:00) >> What about metal? >> I agree. Metal's better, right? >> There's metal on there. >> No. No. >> But it's better. >> Metal is better. It >> is. But metal for me has got more premium. >> Yeah. Yeah, it does. Yeah. >> So, you go go with the uh Too Many Bones uh brass mags, right? >> Premium, right? I know I keep saying premium.
(1:16:23) >> But but it's true. But I think metal's uh fireplace. Talk to me. Premium >> premium premium components. >> Terry Tibs over here. >> Chip theory though. The only people doing stuff like that, right? Stonem did um did mechs in metal. They were expensive. >> One of each from each fashion for 50 quid.
(1:16:47)  So you if you wanted them pimp the whole expeditions, right? >> It would cost Yes. It would cost an absolute fortune to get them all. But they do look very >> They look very nice. >> Yeah, they feel very nice in your palm. Yes, they do. >> Weighty. You got >> Yeah. Woof. >> You're right, Rob. >> And also, >> I'm trying to have a serious conversation here.
(1:17:06) >> Dice. Metal dice. You ever rolled metal dice? >> Oh, yeah. We do D and D. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Don't they feel better? >> Not on my table. They don't. No one's No one's using them on my table. >> He likes a spinner, which we all have to sit there and wait and go, >> what's his spinner made out of? >> Metal. >> I haven't used that in a while.
(1:17:23) >> You haven't used it in a while? Because we were all like >> and you got bullet watch while he's there. >> The bullet dice are lovely. >> Yeah, they are nice. They are lovely. Yeah, absolutely. >> What they made out of? Doesn't want to say it. >> No, it's not. It's not an option. What do you want to say it? >> They're metal.
(1:17:41) >> Option. Plastic. Wood. >> Cardboard. >> Cardboard. >> Cardboard. >> Yeah. I mean, the board's always made out of cardboard, but we say neoprene is plastic as well, right? >> Is it a version of >> Yeah. Yeah. Yes. >> So, I do like an ear cream. >> Yeah, >> an earrame. >> I do like I depends on the game >> and >> wingspan. Yes. Galactic cruise.
(1:18:01)  No, >> I know it's a big no no. A lot of people don't like it cuz it's not very environmentally friendly, but with ball games, I think I see it as like >> How many board games do you see in the sea? >> What? >> DRIFTWOOD EVERYWHERE. >> Sandy Speedos. Sandy Speedos. and speedo part in the speedo. Um >> I don't even know what I'm saying now.
(1:18:27) Um oh near it's going to last, right? And a lot of my board games I don't end up getting rid of. I keep cuz I'm a hoarder as well it seems with board games. So >> but that's okay. >> I don't mind having that in near m cuz I know that's going to last. Right. >> So it's one of those factors depends on the game for me.
(1:18:46) >> It's reused wings cruise. No, >> it's something that's reused and can be reused. So that Yeah. Regardless of what it's kind of made out of, I think it's fine. >> Tracherion. >> Yeah. >> No. >> Oh, really? >> No. I prefer the board. Don't like >> I also find that the printing on an earring mat isn't as good. >> It's a bit washed, isn't it? Sometimes sometimes if you get a good one, then then no, but it depends.
(1:19:08)  Not saying that mine clashes are good cuz I love your >> My Witcher game the the mat is lovely. >> Yeah. >> But you the lines are just a little bit blurry. put them on the board and they clear, you know. >> Yeah. I've seen like the tapestry ones. I play a lot of tapestry and I've seen the tapestry and stone. Do >> you think they'd ever do metal boards where you could have like magnetic pieces? >> I think that would be incredibly expensive and gross >> like like the disc plate metal, you know.
(1:19:32) >> No, >> cuz they can get a nice print on those as well. It could look amazing. >> Prone to scratching. >> It is prone to scratching. You're right. It's a tough material, isn't it? >> It is. Yeah. Yeah. That's a lack of it. >> There are 3 minutes and 40 seconds remaining on the clock. Are you ready for a vote or not? >> I think so. I think so.
(1:19:50) >> I think so. >> JP, >> ready for a vote or not? >> Yeah. Go on. >> Okay. All players ready then. Three, two, one, vote. Okay. So, two votes for Davey, one vote for JS. Um, JS, I'm starting with you. Why do you think it's Davey >> banging on about metal? It's the same. >> I mean, I will >> I will say that >> keeps banging on.
(1:20:21) >> You are also >> You are You both get very excited. >> You are also talking about metal as well. >> If you rewind this, >> you'll find out he's banging. >> Can I just say right, I'm struggling to call this and I know who's I know what's in the envelopes, but I'm I'm struggling to call this myself. Yeah, >> but that's that's my reason.
(1:20:41) >> I wish I had a vote. >> That's my reasoning. >> Okay, so you're both saying the same thing, right? Crystals at mine was the metal and in the palm of his hand. >> Okay. And you're pointing to obviously to Dave. Yes. >> Okay. Rob, reveal who you were as a neutral. >> No one is pointing to you. Okay. So, you're a neutral player.
(1:20:58) >> I'm a neutral player. >> Okay. >> How about yourself, Dan? >> Uh, I was also a neutral player. >> There we go. So, uh, >> I'm also a neutral player. >> Are you really? >> Yeah. No. Yeah, I know. >> Yeah, I know you were. Cuz I'm not. So, >> as soon as I mentioned metal, he was right on it. >> You both jumped on it.
(1:21:18) >> Were you trying to trying to coax him to say metal more? >> I do. I do. I don't know. I just stumbled upon metal and then suddenly kept going on about the palm of your hand. That was that was >> I know to throw people off, isn't it? >> Yeah. Well, well, it threw me off, but but the fact that you kept talking about metal, I'm like, I can't call this now.
(1:21:33) He mentioned metal to start with and I thought it's probably JP and then you started going I have no idea now I'm lost. No idea. Uh >> do you want me to read out? >> Go ahead. Yes, please. >> I was a defector and he said come up with a new material that can be used for board gaming other than wooden cardboard or plastic and convince the neutral players that it's a good idea.
(1:21:52)  So Davey just offers it up like a platter. I'm like I'm having it about neoprene and then he was talking about all sorts of other stuff like plastic. You did mention neoprene which then made me think well it can't be that now it can't be you. Um but well I say well played to you but you were the defector Dave but no very good very good JP.
(1:22:10) >> Thanks thanks Dave. >> Yeah no worries. >> Very good. Uh okay. Um so points on the doors. Davey's got six. JP's got five. Rob's got three. >> Taking him down. >> Last envelope then please Davey. It's yours. >> There we go. >> I'm not very good at social deduction games. Your number one favorite game and why it's so good after all this time.
(1:22:31) Your number one favorite game and why it's so good. Oh, ASMR envelope opening. My number one favorite game and why it's so good after all this time. So, my number one favorite game probably TI Twilight Imperium. Going to go straight for >> didn't know that. >> I'm surprised you said that. >> I'd say that.
(1:22:52)  Well, after all this time, that's that's a that's a classic, right? It's going to be Twilight Imperium and probably Can I have more of this? No. Number one. This hard. This is hard. It's like your favorite movie thing, isn't it? It's hard to pick one. >> Yeah. Changes every day >> for an older game, which is what this sounds like.
(1:23:11)  Like I can't be cult the new. If it was cult the new, I'd probably pick something else. But it's also a game I don't own. So, it's a bit of a event whenever I get to play it. But >> if we're talking if we went down more of like >> not event series and ones I'd play it would be Terraforming Mars. >> I love to >> fair. >> Okay. >> How about you? How about you Rob? >> Yeah Rob like you said it's your favorite movie and I think for me >> it's your favorite game.
(1:23:39) >> It's like picking your favorite movie in that a lot. >> Yeah. But it's your favorite game. >> A lot of it depends on the move on. You could tell it's the last envelope thing. Yeah. Everyone's like, >> for me it depends on what kind of mood you're in. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> There there's two that instantly spring to mind, but I think it's got to be Elder Scrolls.
(1:24:01) >> That's more than >> That's more cult than it's for me. I backed it with I didn't even look at it. I just went, "Yep, I'm all in." Because I instantly knew that I'd love it. I love the law. I love um I played The Elder Scrolls Online to death. I I put thousands of hours >> like Elder Scrolls Online, but I did like >> Oblivion Sky and again Oblivion Skyrim.
(1:24:22) I played them for for thousands of hours. >> I suppose to in some way the world is old to you. >> Yes. Chip Theory, my favorite publisher are making probably my favorite IP, video game IP. >> It's kind of like a match made in heaven to be honest. For for you, it would be the equivalent of them doing it for Fallout for you.
(1:24:43) >> Yeah. >> Do you know what I mean? Yeah, it was just that ticks all my boxes. And >> I still fingers crossed hope they will one day do a Fallout >> cuz they do. Fallout 76 is online, isn't it? So >> it is it is I mean if they Yeah, I'm well. You know what I'm like with Fallout. So if they touch >> So that's why it's my favorite is that as soon as it as soon as it was announced, I was like, "Yep, I'm all in.
(1:25:05) " I did the same thing with the expansion. Um and every time I play it, I just have an absolute blast with it. My one criticism of the game is that it's slightly too long. >> Yeah. No, I didn't. I think it flew by. >> But that's not a bad thing that I'm, you know, I love the game and it goes on for it goes on for ages. So, yeah, for me it's it's Elder Scrolls.
(1:25:23) >> Nice. >> Nice. >> Yeah. >> Oh, you know what mine is? >> No. >> Really don't. >> No. >> No. I'd say anacrony, but somebody else would have played. >> No, it's Too Many Bones. Of course, it's Too Many Bones. Um, >> that's been like your favorite game for like ever? >> Yeah, it >> Did you have one before that? Yeah, probably whatever was in the Fantasy Fly catalog at the time. It was that was it.
(1:25:45) And then I don't know. I can't remember what my favorite was before that. >> It's kind of held as it like placed in your heart just the first but no Bones as you know it. I've enjoyed it. I've literally just done the 90th play of Wild Bones. >> Oh jeez. >> I know. Seriously. So, and it's a weird one, right? Cuz 90 plays of a game.
(1:26:11)  Did I do I love the game like I did when I was in the 1 to 10 plays? Probably not. Probably not if I'm being honest with myself because how can you 90 plays >> when you get Well, when you play games 1 to 10, you're going to be probably the most excited about it and then when you probably get to 90, you might end up going off it.
(1:26:33) >> Yeah. And it worries me a little bit cuz like that that's a game I keep banging on about, right? and it's the game I spent a lot of money on and it's like is >> yeah as long as you value I got the value out of it this is it with games and I think it's okay to get tired of a game that you've played a lot of because sometimes that's that's human nature and you need to play something else for a while and then come back to it >> play less for sure I think as the years go on I play less of it like when co no before co no it was co I was just eating
(1:27:06) it because it's what he could do. >> Yeah. >> And I think as the years have gone on, I am playing it less. >> But, you know, it's still special. Still still a fantastic game. >> But out of those 90 as well, no two games have been the same. >> No, >> we got our asses kicked the last time we played the whole thing.
(1:27:22)  We got our ass kicked the whole way through it. It was not enjoyable. We got absolutely tanned, didn't we? >> And then we beat the boss. >> We did it >> at the end. It was It was mental. >> And then we just puzzled it out and we went, "We can do this." And we did it. And it was like yes, >> there you go then.
(1:27:38)  Highs and lows that you want from a game really easy. >> Stop talking about it weekend. >> No, I can't easy all the time. I drive me insane. >> No. >> Um, >> what about you, Dan? >> Anacrony every time. I mean, I I flitter between Anacron and Frost Punk, but I really I don't get Frost Punk to the table often because of what it simulator.
(1:27:56)  Kicking the ball simulator, which I I love and I love playing the video game version of it. So, like you with Elder Scrolls, Elder Scrolls is rich and deep. Frost Punk isn't. Um, but I like playing the video game version a lot. >> Fine, too. >> Uh, I actually really liked it. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Not as good as the first, but it is still very good and it's better now that they've actually done a ton of updates for it.
(1:28:13)  So, when they've added the Utopia DLC, it it gives you a lot more customizable options and it's actually it's actually fun to play. >> Um, they're redoing the first one, by the way, the Frostbank original game. They're remaking it all five. It comes out this year. >> Um, but Anacrony I it it was like I my my favorite game was for a while was probably a Gricola.
(1:28:31)  Then it went to Anacrony. Then I went to Frostbank and now I think it's gone back to an acronym because it just it just stands the test of time. I love it. >> Time. >> It literally literally time. And I I I don't grow tired of playing it. I can play it bass. I can play it with expansions. I can just play it vanilla. I can play it however I want.
(1:28:45)  And I have a good time every time I play it. I don't I don't pack up and go that was a bit [ __ ] >> Never. It doesn't matter if I had a bad time. >> No. If I play If I come last, doesn't matter. Doesn't matter. I came I came last. I know why I came last. I >> had a great time or a bad time. >> No. Oh, it's a great time every time.
(1:29:01) Doesn't matter. Doesn't matter. >> Okay. >> Don't matter. I love it. I love it to death. To death. I will play and play and play. >> What if you can't finish it in a timely manner? >> Um, I would sit there until I finished it. >> Okay. >> It's a weird question to ask. Um, I would I would I would sit there. >> He's just chucking grenades in now, seeing what he kills, is he? >> This is why I liked him on this episode.
(1:29:22) Um, I I I like I like Got to have with the alternate timeline, though. Don't go chuck in that vanilla timeline. Although I played it vanilla for the first few times I played it. >> Didn't realize. Didn't realize. >> I did. >> Didn't realize. And then when Oh, actually know this alternate timeline is much better. Flip it around.
(1:29:36) >> Makes the warp phase more interesting. It does. >> Yeah. Much more fun. You're ready to vote. >> It's finger of finger of fate. Okay. >> Finger bang you. Here we go then, folks. So, three, two, one, vote. >> Davey's coming at me. Rob's coming at Davey. >> JP's coming at Davey. I'm glad he says at. >> Start with you.
(1:29:57)  Yeah, >> Dave, why are you pointing to me? >> Uh, because you mentioned time and I latched on to it like a like a tick. >> Like [ __ ] on Velcro. >> [ __ ] on Velcro. But you mentioned it a lot. So, and it kept it was like an earworm to me. So, um >> Okay, I can tell you that I was a neutral player. >> So, you're out of luck.
(1:30:16)  Um, what is your card? >> My card? Well, do the pointers not want to guess first or >> No. No. What's your card? My >> I'm a natural player. >> Yeah. Okay. Damn. >> So, Rob, >> hello. >> Who did you point at? >> I pointed at Mr. Davidson. >> Yeah. Um, >> because he kept mentioning time. >> Wow. This was a real thing. Time was a real thing.
(1:30:39) >> Time is And you would expect it from me cuz I go on a lot. >> Um, I'm lucky. What was your card? >> I'm a neutral player. >> Neutral player. JP, >> I I know what you've got. I know. I know. I know. >> That was naughty. >> Yeah. Have to sort of say that you didn't like the game. I love I I don't like as much.
(1:30:57) >> It's gone off a little. >> Going off it. >> Which is rubbish cuz I love the Doy Bones. I don't care. >> You did. I was hoping that you were going to get it. >> You did well. You did well. You did well. I did. I didn't push it too much. You didn't push it too much. I was like, I'll just subtly do it and then I'll leave it >> because 90 plays I could understand, right? And this makes sense.
(1:31:17)  So, but the reality is 90 plays I still love it. >> Fair enough. I >> still love it. >> Did anyone point at you? >> No. >> No. And because of that, that makes you the winner. Oh yeah. So, well done. Well done. >> Thank you. >> Well done. Um, >> can we can we relax now? >> Special mentions to Davey cuz you you threw many many many many grenades.
(1:31:35) >> I I think MVP goes to MVP to Dave cuz that was great. I did enjoy that. Rob, I think you had the had the words panic written over your eyes. >> I felt very put upon at times. I felt as soon as somebody said something to me, the others jumped on it as well. So, I was just like, okay. Very good. Very good. Okay, so it's time for our penultimate turn.
(1:32:03)  What are we all up to then, gang? Rob, let's start with you. >> Uh, I've got a couple of things coming up. Uh, >> are they solo plays? >> They're not. >> Oh, >> spicy. >> They are not. So, I believe this weekend we are going to be playing Hegemony. >> We are. >> Oh, >> Sunday. >> Is that with expansions or >> No, just vanilla Hemany. M. >> Who's got it? >> Me.
(1:32:24) >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I sold my copy. >> I We've played it once. We played a two-player to learn it and I loved it. >> I loved it to start with, but I struggle with the the asymmetry. Like root. I struggle. It's too much asymmetry for me now. I just can't I find it hard to deal with when you're the teacher. >> It's hard to teach >> when it's when you're the teacher.
(1:32:41)  I I can't be doing anymore. >> But the game is good. The game is good. >> You cannot help at 3 in the morning when it's your first play. >> You did that. You did the board game marathon. Yeah. >> No. Who was it? Joel fell asleep while we're playing. >> You didn't You didn't You didn't finish. >> That was like the Friday.
(1:32:57)  Was it the Friday night before the marathon? >> Yeah. Me, Taz, Joel, and Marcus played Germany at 3:00 in the morning. No one no one had played it before and we all learned the rules and um >> we we we stumbled along. We were enjoying it. But yeah, Joel did fall asleep like with his with his cards in his hand and it was his turn and he was just like asleep looking like at his cards.
(1:33:21)  So you had to bang the table to wake him up and he's like, >> "I'll play that one." >> Yeah, I'll just play that one. >> Don't make the rules mistake I did when we played. >> I won't. >> Yeah, I felt bad for that. >> Yeah, that's fine. >> Yeah, >> but I loved it. And the other thing is March of the Ants. >> Yeah, >> we got that coming up as well.
(1:33:34) >> It's second edition, isn't it? >> Yeah, the evolved edition. >> It's a game I've wanted to play cuz I don't typically enjoy 4X games, >> but for some reason, I don't know why, but this really appeals to me. We had a game of it at full board with just me, Tambo, and his nephew. And it was fun. >> Silly stupid ant nonsense, but it the way it works and the way that it >> interacts with other players like your turn.
(1:34:02)  So when you have your turn, the people either side of you get to do reaction stuff and I like that cuz you always you're always engaged. You're like, "What are you doing?" Oh. >> Um but yeah, it's cool. >> Yeah, I'm really looking forward to those. So they're to play those two um in the space of almost a week. I think Friday and Friday, isn't it? So Sunday and Friday.
(1:34:18)  So yeah, really looking forward to playing them. >> Nice. >> Yeah, that's March of the Ants, not to be confused with Ants. They came out at the same time. >> Yeah, I mean March of the Ants is our order, but then they rebranded it around the same time. Then Ants came out from Cranio's more Euro, which is very good as well. >> It's very good.
(1:34:34) >> We played that um Essen. Nice. >> Need to get another game of it. >> We do. >> So I'm looking forward to it. I've just ordered a mele wood table off of Steve. So, I'm very much looking forward to having the whole build process go through that and it's >> exciting. This is very exciting. So, we've just moved house.
(1:34:52)  Finally got space for a gaming table right in the the dining room and uh yeah, my partner's actually looking forward to having a nice dining table as well cuz obviously it looks like a dining table when you put the cleats on. >> Um so, yeah. Uh very much looking forward to that arriving from Meeplewood.
(1:35:10)  So yeah, uh we're going to starting the process soonish, I guess, but it's a long old process. >> It takes a while. >> It will take a while. Um but sooner than that, I'm playing Beast Shattered Isles on the Sunday cuz you guys put a game on the same day. You cheeky monkeys. >> Oh, I think I think mine was in first, but there we go. >> Uh I don't think it was.
(1:35:30) >> Oh, maybe it was. But maybe yours was full, so Tambo put it in anyway. >> It's fine. >> Yeah. So, uh I think it's me, Tambo. Um, is Adrian playing hedge me with you or is he he might be playing with >> he probably play beast. >> I think he's playing beast with us as well. Um, >> and I think there's one other um but I can't remember who at the moment but yeah really looking forward to that cuz it's a new expansion.
(1:35:51)  Um, >> well I enjoy Beast. >> I love Beast about it but not playing it. I I just used to love Evolve as a computer game and people bounced off that hard. But for me that is this is Evolve but like more kind of your hunters rather than futuristic sci-fi hunting a big world monster. But yeah, I I love the asymmetry of it and the teamwork, the cooperation.
(1:36:17)  If you getting your communication down, you can try and work out what the beast is doing. But yeah, love it. >> Nice. Nice JP. >> Hello. >> What you got going on? >> I got a few things going on. Um, I've just had my Cloudspire Harbinger expansion arrive. The heft that is the expansion that finishes Cloud Spire off >> as in it's done.
(1:36:38) >> Sound like it's a good thing. >> It's good. No, but is a good It is a good thing in a way more >> because to be honest, the game rarely gets to the table. >> Oh, we'll get >> But when we do, it's a it's bloody brilliant. And now we've got 10 factions to choose from, which is plenty. Um, yeah.
(1:36:59)  And I won't go into it cuz I'll talk about it on another episode, but I've got a live stream coming up. I think when this releases, it will be tomorrow, the next day, um, with Paul on Gaming Rules. So, >> be trying two of the new factions out going headto-head. I think we're playing as the keel bat and the graft, which is this big single cellular organism thing.
(1:37:18) >> That's going to be interesting. >> So, yeah. Um, we'll see what h happens and see who wins. >> Who are you playing as? >> I'll be playing as the graft because it's more rules complexity >> than the bats. >> Than the bats, but the bats have some cool um abilities as well.
