for those of you who don't know descendants are a class of basically for their friends with all of the natural enemies you find on the border the descendants of the people you come across normally war. So for those of you who don't know, anyway, we're going into a little bit of detail. But Eclipse is a fantastic game, but it's toyline period, but a bit quicker, more based around the technologies, but it's space space exploration, slash taken over planets and all those kinds of things. But with a, I say, the unique selling point that you get to make your own ships with the technologies that you make and research those awesome. And reminded how good it is. Totally works as a three player. Yeah, so just really enjoyed it. So yeah, yeah.

It had been probably about four maybe five months since I played it before that. I really needed to play again. Just remind me actually how the game works and remember it absolutely loves this game. I was like, every role I made was either a miss or just shockingly was just shy of what I needed. I got stuck in a shed for a while off the game. Literally a shed that was dark and had two zombies in it and I was getting mauled to death so you can spend clues. Clues can do anything. So it was great fun. I loved it. I got to play yesterday which was very excited about Marvel Zombicide now I know probably around the table not too big fan was on beside but I mean Chris he is if you know somebody slight fan, this is a bit different because you're playing as the zombies because you actually the zombie hero. Right so there's six Marvel's on big characters you've got Iron Man, the Hulk Captain Marvel, Captain America Deadpool and the Wasp so they're all the six zombie heroes so generally in the zombie side there's the rules are basic wasn't their same your attack you open doors as actions you move and you interact with items and normally you get to search but this one gives you a zombie traits which is much more fun you can do at any point and just get a zombie trade which helps you boost the different mechanic and this is that you get hungry as you're a zombie you've got to eat so what happens is or you get them in the swarms of SHIELD Agents that come in the board and you've got to eat them kill them. Okay and do your objectives and this fun so on the top bar you've got your health which is normal and then right you've got your hunger level so you start off hunger level one every time you start your turn on the character you go one hunger level and you only don't get any different weapons in this one you all you get is to get your superpower action which is like So Captain America frozen sealed and and then you got to devour action which means you eat someone so for you you always have like three dice say three dice and a special action but if your hunger levels one you get an extra dice for your hunger level. Okay, so if you're like aggressive and it goes up the force so when you get to level two three get three more dice when you're three but you're on the dice that the blanks not blank because this is a desex it's like a little bite mark which means that if you get well that your hunger goes up and if you hit level four, you go ravenous, so all you can do is move and then all we can do is eat you have to eat someone or you just devour but if you're still ravenous at the end of turn, you need to help like a punishment if you don't, you don't need your hunger is a good thing but it's always punishing you if you don't get if you don't eat and that's really cool mechanic and so really think about your turn and how you can do it because you just I kept getting really hungry and die.

I've been playing an absolute boatload of Ticket to Ride On Board Game Arena. Okay, I keep playing it time after time after time, because it's only about an hour, 10 minutes. So you can get an entire game done really,

really quickly. It was longer than that. There is a little bit I think,

well, it says an average of nine minutes when you're playing it, maybe it's a bit longer than playing it. But the turns are capped at like less than two minutes. Yeah. Well, I think from the start of the other person finishing they're going you've got two minutes. So you've got to be really quick. You've got to turn these you know, turns around really quickly. And yeah, keep losing I've won a couple of times, but I just I just really love it. Which version is it? So it's not like lots of different theories. I think that might I'm going to blame for that for some of my failures because the regular game you can pick two cards right you pick out of you get 3d destinations and you have to pick one. Whereas in the I think it's called something along the lines of Ticket to Ride Mega 1910 edition, you know over Ticket to Ride fans are screaming at the speakers now going, it's not called that you idiot, but I can't remember it's called I've only seen it on BGA, which don't look at the box. So with that, I think you'd pick more destinations at the start, or it's a little bit different. And you don't the way I'm playing it. You don't get to pick what type you're playing. You just play a game of it. But I really like it because really simple. And I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I keep thinking, Oh, I think I've got this one. Yeah, I think I've got this one. And then it all just goes horribly wrong. And I end up with like, 80 points, and they get 140. It's like, oh, oh, dear, but I have one a few times. And so we seem to be really nice people that play. Yeah. I've never ever had any kind of issues with, you know, people coming on the chat and be sad pair of people. Yeah, it's Yeah. So the other people? Well, I think is yes, because it comes with the language they speak or not or whatever. But the only interaction I've had is me typing in Gg, which sounds good. And then then typing in Gg or whoever all of it does at first. That's it. I've not had any other interaction with them at all. But it's just a nice, quick, simple. It's like a little puzzle. And I like it.

Cool. Awesome. Alright, let's get to the main topic then shall we? So let's move on to the main topic. Today we're talking about the madness of mansions. So we're talking about the Mansions of Madness second edition version. This reason I've done this episode is because it is one of the first games I played when I joined the group. And I've played the first edition first with JP before we mentioned it, but back in other podcasts, and then I thought, well, this is interesting. And when football my first game was sort of second vision, I thought I'll buy it and yeah, I think from a strategic reasons, it's just one of my favourite games. I've had a lot of time playing it. I've paid a lot of times. So yeah, so mansions is a game in the Arkham Horror universe in set. I think it's set in 1926. I think this

alternative, isn't it alternative history kind of thing? Isn't it? The outcome, is it? I believe

so? Okay, I didn't specifically say but I kind of good. And I thought it generally comparo said about this in designating 26. Like that kind of era. But yeah, and as published in 2011. So it's an old game. It's been out for a long time. I always remember seeing when I went to the board game, Expo people were still buying it. So it's obviously quite a popular thing sort of covered people carrying it around with them. Yeah. So basically what you are, you're a bunch of investigators, and you go in and each scenario is based in a mansion, generally, generally, there are some other ones. There are some newer ones which aren't in the mansion, but most of them generally do end up going into a big kind of house,

that Vichy house and estate, a mansion that you pick fancy words

and stuff in and obviously it will contain could be a murderer. Could be cultists, it could be zombies. It's all got all the different kinds of things for witches, monsters, and lots of different puzzles. Yeah, yeah. So that's basically what mansions is. So as far as we know, there are five main expansions added to this game. It's their their core, one school beyond the threshold. Streets of Arkham Sanctum Twilight, horrific journeys and the path of the serpent, which is the latest one. Well, that's the last one. This one released? Yeah. And there's two other expansions that were in the first edition expansion. You need the first edition copy to play it. Which is for forbidden alchemy and Call of the Wild. And there's 22 scenarios altogether.

I count them. 123 Yeah. So yeah, we can talk about how the game plays. So basically, it's a dungeon crawler made from an app

So the app definitely does a really good job of randomising it all different types of ways. Even

if you play the same scenario, it's it's not going to be the same. Exactly the same thing. Is it because it changes the monsters and all those things.

It moves the tiles around on the map where they will the items will be the enemies that spawn their attacks. Yeah, literally everything about it is

so you play at once in the play game. It could be all different kinds of place different places. Yeah. And there's always different endings to scenarios as well. There's different scenario endings for I found,

But there are some different ones. I think a couple of them. Yeah. So we're just gonna get a deep dive into these different scenarios and our experiences on them. Okay. So yeah, I mean, Chrissy, you were talking about one earlier. That one was there. Finally, a good scenario was called the dearly departed first edition of one of my favourite ones. It's a five star. So it's really hard to have

this. Apparently the hardest difficulty once obviously, the ratings are five anyway, but find that five is pretty hard.

you think if you can, I think there's because I can't play that the other one, go to the wild. I couldn't play the call of the wild because I don't have the expansion part for it from the first edition. But I think it's only like one time. Okay,

you can curl it together. So we were like halfway through the game the other week. And it's literally like, we couldn't find a tile for love nor money. And then we just like, right, this tile looks similar. It has the right sort of splitting on it. Let's just use that one. And then about 20 minutes later, we found the tile. We're looking for other tiles, so then we just couldn't just swap the back in and it was fine. So jumping

in, we're quickly problem that can be a bit of an issue. Can't it finding the right tile? Yeah, I have to say, you know, I'm sure there's a way of organising it better than I've done it.

There is a very good way of organising actually, because you always use the I call it a feathered symbol. As an argument, it's not forever, but it's a tentacle tentacle that's not the feather

I always get those tiles stacked up ready to go because I've always wanted to generally always use Okay, and then on the app, you can, you can go into the collection of the one you use and say if you did that, we have to activate the first edition expansion. Yeah, you click on it, and they'll just put those two tiles you only ever gonna use that tile with a key symbol unless you have them ready to go. So you're not digging for all the tiles but if you click on all of them and have more activated it will go through all the time. Okay, well that's on all the creatures and all the monsters

I was gonna ask you definitely this mostly for you to I guess. The main difference between the second and the first edition is the fact that you don't have a traditional dungeon master. In d&d terms. That's right. Yeah. So in the first edition, you had a bad guy, a player who had to play is the person controlling the monsters rarely, right? So the second edition, it's all automated via the app. So that's the main difference. That's the exactly right. So I haven't played the first edition. So

I played the first version twice. I think, I think that they want JP we play it twice. A JP is actually the two experience I had. The Dungeon Master is OP'ed. Right. And the first one, it's really hard to do it. It's even harder than the second edition in my opinion, because the second edition is hard, isn't it? It was great fun. Chris remembers it.

Alright, so let's go through a favourite scenario. So Kerley do you have a favourite scenario that you do

make Yes, I looked into it because I remember the scenario like it was yesterday. I don't remember the name. So I liked our party. Yeah. So it's called 1050 to Arkham. Yep. Which is the train scenario where you're going along and remember we said as Mansions of Madness in name only. And that's very, because you're on train. Yeah. But the idea is, you've caught this train, and then one of the passengers gets a little bit strange and starts, you know, it all goes downhill, basically. And you end up and spoiler alert guy. So I mean, it's probably Yeah, exactly. So you know, but the whole idea of it is going along and you gotta solve mystery, but then actually, I can't remember exactly, but you're running out of coal as you go along.

And I remember I got a phone call and I called

keep the train going. And dimensional riff turns up in the train station to and like you're losing, you're losing carriages as well as as long as you have to move forward. And it's just so full of so many really cool mechanics. Like even the train stops at a station. Yeah, well, you can get off and you can go around the station, but then if you're not back on within a certain amount of times, it starts pulling away again.

well going down a different rabbit hole with that one but yeah, basically my opinion I always remember from my railway days for you guys is a woman turning up at 720 The train was just pulling out and she broke down in tears down on her hands and knees and was wailing at the back of the train. I think if it's that flipping important if it's that important get up an hour earlier. Any car at the train station for half an hour with you know? Yeah, exactly. It's like if it's that important then they'd be more organised trains before but it's like it's never been for something that I'm going to break down in tears on my hands and knees in the middle of a train platform. So yeah, so it doesn't use me I'm

the end of the game at the end of the scenario with you putting coal into the engine in order to keep it going and keep enter the Dimensional Rift and if you don't have enough coal so yeah, so we are we will one call short. I always remember that we filled the scenario but it's still really good fun.

mentioned streets of outcome where you where you've got I thought we'd all done and then it was like right winding up well, we did that one goes and then oh, no, wait, there's a whole nother half of the scenario. And we got a right or kicking from what what appears to be some sort of love boss at the end of it. It was just really interesting was my first ever scenario I think and really introduced me to the world and kind of how it played and what kind of surprises it can throw.

You've got your there is a house involved in the middle when you enter jungle suddenly spawns up on the house, and then people start turning to sneak people. Oh, wow. Normally, I'd obviously just sort of remember there were random bits and pieces, but trying to figure out who a person was because this person said this thing about someone else. And he found this weird little tablet inside someone's dresser in their room, ended up writing loads of stuff down and actually then trying to figure out I don't think I won. I didn't forget who it was played, but I loved it.

Yeah, so it was a really good one. So in fact, you mentioned most of my favourites are the ones. So another favourite of mine was when we played it says favourites when I was very clever. It's the hidden depth scenario. So this is on the same expansion. Horrific journeys, what same as the balloon and the train one. The other one is the hidden debts, which is the cruise ship. It's all based on a cruise ship, which is exactly the same. You've got to find out who sabotaged the ship. But while you're trying to figure out he's already sabotaged it and it's sinking. So you're moving through the ship and you're putting water tiles on the board and it's sinking so you got to keep ahead of the ship and there's creatures they go fight on the way or you leave them depending on where you want to do it. Plus you got to find out who it was by the time you get on the escape boat. Do the investigation as you're moving up and then you got to accuse someone of doing it at the end. Yeah, that was really good fun. We did that. And we actually accused someone we wasn't quite sure because didn't have all the facts. So it was like a 50 not 50 feed we put about 73% chance of us getting like wash is it we just do it and we did it and it was right. It's a great achievement if you did it right at the end. That was one of my all time favourite ones.

So I go for Lilly Chen so it's just it's an extra 200 damage now so for the main reason not only is that very powerful but it also means you can give out the weapons to the other people so at the start of the game you get a really limited amount of items you have to kind of share between us you want more as well you can go I'm fine on
