Tambo: 0:47

Welcome to Whose turn is it anyway, a podcast all about a gaming group. I'm a board game shenanigans. I'm Tambo, your current first player, and I'm joined by JP Hello there. Hello, Dan Daniel son. Yes, then. And Rob. Hi, how y'all doing?

Dan Apsey: 1:01

Great, good

JP: 1:01

where it is. We're really excited for you. Yeah. Good. You stepped up to the plate

Tambo: 1:07

now for some effort in my contribution to the game

Dan Apsey: 1:14

nothing at all for

Tambo: 1:15

months on end So I've tried doing first player.

JP: 1:19

I think this is what this podcast is all about is, you know, we want to give everyone in the gaming group a chance to talk about the stuff they want to talk about. And there's no bad way of doing that that can come in first player because you literally get to decide what we talk about.

Tambo: 1:32

So I just ask questions and you just answer year?

JP: 1:35

Yeah, pretty much. I mean, I talk a lot. Yeah,

Rob: 1:38

no, no, don't

Dan Apsey: 1:39

I aint saying nothing.

JP: 1:43

You're just loud Dan.

Dan Apsey: 1:43

I'm extremely loud. I like to talk a lot.

JP: 1:47

Sit back from the mic. Levels.

Dan Apsey: 1:50

Is Hi, Davey

Tambo: 1:54

So good. I haven't seen you from Christmas. Probably. You know, it's been a while. And this is coming out in February and it seems long but yeah, it's good. It was good. Yeah. Well, good night or good night should move on then.

JP: 2:08

Let's let's do it

Tambo: 2:17

so now we've got on so let's talk about hex. So what board games that we've been up and playing recently, and anyone like to go first.

Rob: 2:23

I'll go I made quite a significant purchase in the in the run up to Christmas. For years, I've been begging JP to play this game and he's always too busy with other games. So I thought Screw it. I'll just buy my own copy too busy for you. He's too busy playing other games like Mineclash stuff stuff that I've been interested in.

Dan Apsey: 2:42

You got Voidfall? HES GOT VOIDFALL, YES THEN!

Rob: 2:44

that he's no, I I finally I just bit the bullet and bought too many bones.

Tambo: 2:53

I like too many bones. Right? Yeah.

JP: 2:55

Is it good?

Rob: 2:56

It's very good. I'm not gonna go into it. We talk a lot about on this podcast and obviously if you're playing the drinking game

JP: 3:02

does it count if you talk about it?

Rob: 3:04

I think it talks if anyone talks, but I would say they had this really nice bundle in the run up to Christmas like the Christmas sale. And I got it and I haven't stopped playing. It's bloody wonderful.

JP: 3:16

How many games have you had of it?

Rob: 3:18

Already? Six, seven,

JP: 3:22

as well. So yeah.

Dan Apsey: 3:23

How long have you had it?

Rob: 3:25

Since Christmas. No. Two weeks. Wow. So yeah, um, so yeah, I got that for the game. I was going to talk about the game that we played on Christmas Day. Fun really fun like dungeon crawler. Bag of dungeon. We briefly talked about it I think back at

JP: 3:44

Chrisy Plays it

Rob: 3:46

We'll see plays it is basically dominoes but as a dungeon crawler

Dan Apsey: 3:49

Who makes it?

Rob: 3:50

gunpowder studios, a company that makes it there is bag of dungeon 2 but I didn't realise that when I asked my wife to get it for me for Christmas. But what I really wanted was like a fun dungeon crawler game that I could play on my own if I had like a spare hour and something you could play with other people if need be. It's a really like fun game

Tambo: 4:11

Travel size

Rob: 4:12

Yeah, and you just obviously pull in tiles out of a bag seeing what you get in and kind of trying to build this dungeon as you go. And you fighting monsters and creatures and you're picking up items and I'd say it's really really like dungeon crawler

Tambo: 4:27

should typical dwarf, elf. Yeah. And was it we

JP: 4:30

played it as a gauntlet.

Rob: 4:32

We played it as Co Op because Josh joined while we were playing this Co Op anyway and then Josh came over JPs son and was like what was this and he joined in as well. But I think where that game's gonna shine is like we figured out afterwards is in competitive mode. Yeah, so you can choose whether you help somebody out with a monster or whether they get booted back to the start because you get a certain number of lives as well. But also if you do manage to kill the dragon and get out of the dungeon the other players have to turns to get out.

Dan Apsey: 5:02

Smelling of Clank

Tambo: 5:07

the type of movement I'm putting

Rob: 5:10

but I'd say I just wanted a game that I could play on my own and I've been jonesing for like a really good dungeon crawler game that I can play on my own

JP: 5:18

zero setup time

Rob: 5:19

yeah that was the thing was you set up time which it is it's literally chuck it all in the bag, pull it out, as and when required

Tambo: 5:26

I always thought about the dangers of or when you go in you'd love to drink and power or ring or something, isn't it? Yeah, you Penny click a ring an annual free Ready wants to kick you if you want. So when you're

Rob: 5:33

pulling items out, yeah, you'll find a ring first player to get that ring and kill and kill the dragon, isn't it, but you have to kill the dragon on the way out. So of course, you have to be a little bit tooled up to be able to deal with the dragon, unless you're doing a co op where you will, but only one person can kind of fight at the same time, you can assist, which gives the other player an extra dice. But that's it. But they get some loot off it as well. But yeah, so and then once you kill a monster, you can choose whether you share that loot or not with the person who helped you. So if you're doing it competitive, it's like, wow, I really need the help. But

JP: 6:06

yeah, if I don't give him the loot, I'm never going to help me again. Yeah,

Rob: 6:10

it seems like quite fun. So next time we play it, but yeah, so bag of dungeon really fun, really light.

Tambo: 6:18

Yeah, dungeon crawler. Nice. So Dan?

Dan Apsey: 6:22

I got to play not much over the Christmas period over the holiday period, it was a bit of I was away on holiday. So it was a bit of a busy time for me. But I did get to squeeze out a few games of rolling realms by stone Maier games. If anybody doesn't know if you are a fan of stone Maier games, it's basically a rolling right of every stonemaier game, a known that they've ever done into one roll and write game it was made over the pandemic. And it was originally a print and play game. And then eventually they made a physical copy. And I've got one of those. And now they've now added extra games in it that's not even stonemaier that you can buy for it, trickerion pack Yeah, there's other packs that you can buy for it. And it's basically a really, really simple roll and right where you're rolling two very, very chunky dice, which are really nice to hold. You chuck them and, normally the normal standard D sixes. And you're manipulating the dice values on to three separate realms, which are cards, which are basically games of stonemaier games. And you take those values. And wherever you put those values on those three rounds, they do different things. And then you're literally trying to achieve different things to get stars. It sounds like it's a bit fiddly, but it's really not it's really simple. And a game can be done in 30 minutes. If that and me and the wife, I taught it to her over Christmas, and we played a couple games. We like stone Maier games anyway, we're big fans of tapestry and wingspan, that kind of thing. So it was nice to have a very, very light version of that game in a realm rolling realms. So we've got to play a couple games with that. And it was very good. I recommend if anybody is a stonemaier go and get it.

JP: 8:05

I'm one of the people that played over COVID When Jamie released it. Yeah, why not? Combine the games or do anything. Yeah. And that's

Rob: 8:17

not true. You couldn't buy it you say you couldn't buy any games

JP: 8:21

I couldn't go out to buy there we go. And, of course, this is where the Kickstarter Kickstarter was available. Kickstarter. A lot of those

Dan Apsey: 8:27

switchero purchases are starting to arrive which is good. But now I played it and I thought it was really good for what it was thrown together. It's really really clever. And where it is now as as polished product. Yeah, in fact, you can get all these other realms of different games and Terra Mystica and yeah, God insert and itself and yeah, it's rolling rounds itself, its own pack

JP: 8:56

How meta? Yes. It's just it's easy to play really chilled. Actually. You get a lot of pumpkins and things that

Dan Apsey: 9:03

you get pumpkin yeah, there's different resources. So you get hearts, pumpkins and coins. Yes. And then you can use those at any time to do different things depending on which resource you spend

JP: 9:13

great stuff

Dan Apsey: 9:13

Yeah, and all you're doing is you're circling you're circling a pumpkin when you've got one because it's wrong right and then you just cross one out once you've spent it and then you're trying to manipulate those resources and the dice values to unlock stars and you can get a knock a maximum of six hours per realm so the maximum you can get is 18 points per round and the game last three rounds and the person with the most stars again with the

JP: 9:33

idea is that you you have to use one number of one dice to one and then you

Dan Apsey: 9:37

have to use one in one round one and another unless you use I think it's I think it's either the pumpkins or the hearts and then you can do in the same realm where you can even spend resources to gain another imaginary die that's not actually there. And then you can spend that one as well. My favourite dice to roll imaginary ones

JP: 9:53

because they always come up six

Tambo: 9:57

mine do I've been rolling my roll

JP: 10:01

even not to use your your imaginary dice tower but as if a garden any boy like three times. I know it's one of the things I should buy that and then I don't

Dan Apsey: 10:18

Next time you place an order with stonemaier games website using the champion discount if you're below Yeah, thanks, Jamie. Look tag on order. If I place an order with their website, I tend to tag on a couple of packs of Add Ons I don't have. Yeah, because I like five. Chuck and Chuck. Chuck them in Jamie chuck them in. Literally just throw them in

Rob: 10:40

all of them and that'd be great.

Dan Apsey: 10:43

But, you know, he's got a lot of a lot of new products and a lot of excitement on his website. So maybe you can very soon something about

JP: 10:50

dragons. I've no idea of the time this episode releases, though that is old news by now.

Dan Apsey: 10:55

I think you're right. Yeah.

JP: 10:56

And your wyrm span. That's not go. That's right.

Tambo: 11:02

So I'll go next then. So are we, JP and I and Kerley, and Marty, we will play the game a nemesis with the Carnomorph expansion. And we had the aftermath, extra characters in as well. We did. Yes. And it was very good fun. I really enjoyed it.

Dan Apsey: 11:18

Who won?

Tambo: 11:20

That we'll get to in a minute. Okay. It's quite exciting.

JP: 11:23

Oh, it's got a story to tell

Dan Apsey: 11:26

you sitting comfortably. Not to be confused with the gorgonites, thats small

Tambo: 11:27

I actually read out the story of the carnivores was quite funny. I thought it's quite funny because everyone knows the space cat is the first player token and nemesis, which is very random. So in the story of this, the space cats going around the ship, and then it accelerates to high speed and the cat gets splat on the wall. And all his bloods goes into these DNA vials of the aliens and that's how the contents are made. Yeah. Yes, that's that's quite funny when I went down for That's brilliant. So this becomes soup. Yeah. And then becomes the meta organs which are these little a little bugs that come around and eat and grow when they each other or corpses soldiers. Gorgonites Yeah. I hope I said the right metaphor. It's a metagorges, metagorges, gorges that makes more sense like gorgeing. Yeah, yeah. So it was really really, really good fun. There is a bit of a story to it. JP won, but he was being a bit of a dick.

Rob: 12:21

Doesn't sound like JP, this is new news.

JP: 12:24

I wasntThe only winner

Tambo: 12:25

now there was two winners was Martin did win as well.

JP: 12:29

My first Nemesis win when people it's a good feeling when you win Nemesis

Dan Apsey: 12:32

because it's not it's not easy. Because I've

JP: 12:35

run the gauntlet. Yeah, yeah, but he's right. I wasn't there. Yeah, I I did. What made it worse is that I didn't need to be a dick to win. It's been a while since I played

Rob: 12:48

and that's where you instantly just assumed you had to be.

JP: 12:51

Yeah, but did I have fun? Yeah,

Tambo: 12:54

well, it's quite funny because you for a grenade in the room didnt you? And then he couldn't do it wasn't allowed

JP: 12:58

I broke the rules.

Tambo: 12:59

So I said you can't do that. Now. I know. And he's been a dick. And it was when I was in the room as well. But I had to still follow him because we're going the same way. So I was watching JP, then he does it again. And which he's allowed to do it and then I died. Yeah,

JP: 13:10

because grenades can only be thrown if there's a intruder in the room that you've got inhibitors. So you can't actively be violent against players but if they happen to be in the same room as an alien, okay. So yeah, tambo kind of worked out. Yeah, I

Tambo: 13:27

should have healed first of all wrong.

JP: 13:30

I threw a grenade into your room. Whoo hoo. serious wound. That you got serious wound? before Yeah. And then I was playing the psychologist and the site of great character. The site you'll love this, but the psychologist has a car called Would you kindly?

Dan Apsey: 13:47

I would very much like that

Tambo: 13:50

Yeah. Would you kindly move into the room full of aliens? Yeah, yeah. I'm sure

JP: 13:55

problem could force of the characters to do basic actions of your choosing. Just enjoy. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So it's Would you kindly go over there, Tambo with those three metal news like you? Yeah, so yeah, that was fun. For me. It was great.

Tambo: 14:09

I just like to mention I was a bounty hunter who has a cool thing has a dog called like, you can run this dog into the rooms next to it and they eat does explore it for you. And be so roll and noise but it's such a good deal

JP: 14:20

You're sending a poor defenceless dog into a room

Tambo: 14:22

The dog cant die in the game so you can set but you can sacrifice the dog.

Dan Apsey: 14:27

So many plans. I know that if it's a dog, dog miniature or dog character in a game the dog is life. That's it. The dog is like Yeah, and if a dog gets compromised in any way, that's it. It's up wrong. Yeah, it's

JP: 14:38

almost absolutely twice invulnerable. Kill it. Kill it.

Tambo: 14:43

Well, there's a card in the deck. It says if you're bad if you get wounded and it's going to kill you, you can sacrifice lica , and you get one hell I Am Legend. Yeah, but you take out the game. So you don't die. But unfortunately when I bled out something injury wasn't biomedical attack, so I couldn't use your lips. I didn't have the kind of just bled you have. Would you kindly? Yeah, that was great. Fun. That wasn't it? Yeah, it

JP: 15:04

was good fun. carnivores and notoriously, bastards. Yeah, even worse than the intruders.

Tambo: 15:10

They are worse but they're more fun. She killed him more and it's like you get killing but then this

JP: 15:15

was like a virus. Yeah. So it's like playing pandemic. Except the virus grows up in murders. Yeah, really. So you

Rob: 15:23

no different to pandemic?

JP: 15:27

Your limbs off and no shit. You're out the other end. But no, that's true. That's true.

Tambo: 15:32

You also get a mutation Card dont you, which helped me just have fun. So you get in when you get attacked the first time you get a mutation kind of which gives you an ability if you've got an effect you know, you get the the infection cards in your hand that build up so you if you scan it and it's infected to get to the infected part the ability or if it's not fair to get to the unaffected part, and that gives you need extra boost power.

JP: 15:52

I like that mechanic which is your infection cards or your faction cards are probably

Dan Apsey: 16:01

contamination. Yeah, the word I'm looking for the word infected. Yeah.

Rob: 16:08

I've played it twice. Okay.

Tambo: 16:12

Oh, no, it's good. It's good. I'm actually do it fully coop with you. I think you'll love it.

Rob: 16:17

I think they will lose its charm.

Tambo: 16:20

Is that why you hated it?

Rob: 16:21

Oh, yeah, I get why it's a good game. I just it's not for me.

Dan Apsey: 16:25

needs to have the it needs to have a defector in there but you know, I was back in the days of playing dead of winter for the first time and dead of winter became comes old. Unfortunately me very quickly. While Nemesis does not I love Nemesis and it's fantastic. And I'm a big Europe game fan. I'm much prefer playing a euro game and playing at something like nemesis. But Nemesis just

JP: 16:43

the opposite. Yeah. Obviously, it's random tells a story

Dan Apsey: 16:47

every time you play it. This is why ti does like to play like that. There's

Rob: 16:52

so much to do in that game. I get bored. Like there's so much to do. I'm just like, yeah, can the polling go to sleep? And then I'm done. Good. Good luck. Like, yeah, it's just yeah, no, I

Dan Apsey: 17:09

have a good old nap.

Rob: 17:10

I get I get why people love it. I get why a lot of people like say I get why it's, a good game, just not for me.

JP: 17:18

Another thing to think I do those contamination cards in the carnomorphs is actually gives you as you're saying Tambo something to use them. The mechanic of the mutations is that you can now use that if you get that in your hand. You're now going to activate that mutation card and do something cool or horrible or whatever. But it comes at a cost which is for

Tambo: 17:41

how yes use it for then you die. Yeah, you mutate it fully. We take to your life we

JP: 17:45

actively using your mutation which will progress you further becoming a

Tambo: 17:49

cube on your board yet for them at that. Yeah.

JP: 17:52

Great.

Tambo: 17:52

Have you back the latest one that have retaliation, retaliation? Oh, yeah. Well, of course, the balls that you went all.

JP: 17:58

Nice. You got the first one. I got lock down. Yeah. Because you actually bought my time for any other than that, and then you got returned. I'm looking forward to retaliation to see

Dan Apsey: 18:09

the modular board. And yeah, that's what we saw. Right. Yeah.

JP: 18:13

Modular feel like aliens. You're the Marines. Now. You're coming in?

Rob: 18:18

That I've been interested in

JP: 18:19

Yeah. I mean, I'm trying to see if it retains the because Cool. There's these little I noticed that printed on a put little standard. Any health cubes around it now? Yeah. So it Nemesis and lockdown. It's like, wrong place. Wrong time. Yeah. Anything. You're like, a worker and then a facility or, you know, you're against the odds. Whereas now? Yeah, you're tooled holds it so so I'm going to bits as well, which can be quite up this time. So what are you facing? And how does it keep the threat and how does it keep the tension? Which the other two games does? I'm intrigued. Yeah, I should be a fun. Look. Cool. Yeah. cool. A lot of dials. I've got in lockdown there. They're useful, but you still got moved the dials when the alien moves. So these are the stands is nice and contained. Yeah.

Tambo: 19:05

And it's just stuff like that. Yeah, sounds good. Yeah. So the new JP.

JP: 19:11

Yeah, I've been fortunate. I've got an advanced copy from Osprey games of Imperium horizons. And this is the expansion box for Imperium classics and legends which I talked about in the previous episodes, I won't go too much into the kind of details of the game. But Horizons is a big box expansion. It gives you a 14 More nations. So now there's a total of 30 Jesus 30, 30 nations play, there's a lot of replayability there's a lot of reliability, probably some would say maybe too much. Considering you know, a game of Imperium. Even solo takes a good 90 minutes to

Dan Apsey: 19:51

want to play it

JP: 19:52

two player takes roughly similar, imagine three or four will ramp up significantly to over two hours to three. And for those that don't know very quickly, it's a deck builder, but it's a complicated deck building game designed by David Turczi and Nigel Buckle

Dan Apsey: 20:09

what other games do they make?

JP: 20:10

Voidfall. which incidentally is the reason why I checked it out because I wasn't really super interested in it before as you probably know from previous episodes, but I gotta go and I absolutely fell in love with it. It is a fantastic design. I really love the flow of the game where you start off as the barbarian state so you can be Romans or whatever in this case. I I could be Japanese or it could be Inuits, or Martians, or other ones that I can't recall off the top of my head, theres 14. And you kind of go for your deck, you're playing cards, and every time you would cycle your deck, you would add like, an additional card into the deck from this nations pile. And you kind of go through that, that process so many times until you ascend. And when you get your ascension card, you then become an empire. Once you become an empire, you have access to more civilised cards, and you know, things like education and currency and stuff like that. And every game is different because of the Commons and the market more the order, the cards come out, your strategies are completely different, but the whole, all the nations are asymmetrical. They all work differently, even though some may lean a little bit to the left, and some may lean to the right, especially in the classic box. But in anything like legends and horizons I've played its there quite strongly, like we're going in this direction. It's Oh my god, this just completely sounds right up. And, and so yeah, that's what for me, what gives me the replayability. So even if I play the same nation, five times, it will be a different game on its own. But you know, for everything on board, or the this faction, I'm going to go and try this other one. Is this like cheeses? There's just so much you sleeved your coffee? No. There's an awful lot of guys a lot. And, and to be honest with you, the game is not that expensive, In my opinion. No, like 30 quid for like the base of Africa. So yeah, 2028 27 a classic game. There's a lot going on. And I just thought, well, what's the point? In my opinion, what's the point is sleeving them all? Yeah, forget ruins by another copy? probably cheaper than sleeving it. Yeah, in my opinion. Yeah. So. So yeah, horizons gives you 14 new nations, also adds in a trade routes module, which I really liked, had a little dabble with it, I need to play some of the nations that really lean into the trading side. But you have these new trade route cards that can come out in the comments in the market that you can end up playing, and adds a new resource called goods, these little m four tokens that you can acquire in the game. But you can kind of spend, you start with this merchants card alongside all the other cards, and you can exhaust that car to basically trade with any trade route card of any player. So the ones that you have in play or your friends or friends. No one's your friend, your your enemies. Yeah, how dare you be friends, and you can use their abilities on their card. And the rubber bit is it's once it gets to three goods tokens. You can't trade with that card anymore, or that player anymore. And then they can profit from basically having their card fall and get a

Tambo: 23:22

Brucey bonus that's gonna say normally, people get something. Yeah, something. Yeah. So

JP: 23:26

you know, be the owner of the card has its benefits, even if other players are capitalising off that but they're trading the goods with you, you will keep the goods as well, once it's been profited

Dan Apsey: 23:36

any international listeners, please feel free to look up Brucey bonus. Yeah,

JP: 23:39

yeah. Yeah. Yeah, Bruce Forsyth rest in peace. And, yeah, so basically adds that whole new mechanic and when you set the game up, you will strip out a lot of the offensive attackee cards to put these in. So it kind of helps balance the game. So instead of being more negative attacks, is more positive interaction. So if people like, didn't like the negative interactions in the original game, this is a kind of an alternative way of keeping the interaction in but being more positive with the players. But yeah, kind of adds that module. And the rulebook has been completely rewritten. It's so much better, because I had a lot of criticism in the original classes and legends. In fairness, it was, it's a bit like being in a Haynes manual, you know how to fix your Ford Fiesta in 1984. You know, it's a bit clunky, that it's all there, but it's just not well brought to life. And this new version of the rulebook is so much better. And it has a like a practice mode now, which for solo just means you can just take pick a nation, you play 12 rounds, and you can learn it without having to run a bar or do anything else. And that's brilliant, nice. So just literally just music playing the game, and it's super fast. And there's also other variants they've added in now to decrease the the length of the game. So if you want a shorter game, the setup will be less cards and make you a bit further advanced in your nation than you would be normally. So for me that the length of the games never bothered me, I have a great time playing it. So you know, I played Twilight Imperium. So many things were shorter than that game. But now I'm really digging it and we've got a game coming up on gaming rules, hence why I've got an advanced copy. So we'll be picking two nations that really show off the new game. mechanics in the game. And yeah, so watch out for that. If not, it'll probably be maybe next week, but the time this episode gets released, so we'll put a link in the show notes. So check it out if you're interested.

Tambo: 25:45

Yeah, nice good to crack that at table in the group that at some point, yeah,

JP: 25:48

My only reservation is to do run it like four, but I think I'll do it because I want to see how it works. But I think the downtime and a four player will be non breaking. Yeah. But if you kind of thinking about what you're doing, maybe it's not so bad. I think three will probably be nice. But I think four might be too much for learning game as well. It's gonna be a long night, you know, just like, it's not a straight. It's not like playing Star Wars that don't build pretty straightforward and I love Star Wars a debt builder. I think it's a cracking game. And it's very accessible. And you can just play it and you're in within minutes, right? This takes a bit more investment

Dan Apsey: 26:25

Star Realms is like just like that. Yeah, it's like star realmsI was in a little box. For like, 10 quid. Yeah, great game. Deck Builder.

JP: 26:31

Just got to like, know the game and to you, if you know the flow and you're playing it correctly, you will end up with a score of like, 13 go, Hey, what I thought I did better than that. Like another player's got 120 Oh, did you do that? And so you just got to play it a few times. But that's the I'd say the downside of it. But yeah, I love it. I think it's a great game.

Dan Apsey: 26:54

Yeah, we'll teach me now we'll do it.

JP: 26:57

We'll have one game going once we get moved. Moving house by the way, listeners, not that you care. Deeply we only have the houses seven. Like what would be next door?

Rob: 27:18

Paper cups across the aisle as a sexual thing. No, no. All right.

Tambo: 27:23

Let's get on to the main topic. Queue Sting So moving off the main topic today we're going to be talking about family games for games, which are good for getting the family up to the table and playing games. And this can be obviously quite difficult, as we all know, because there's a big age range difference. And trying to get people in and people. Yeah, and to just don't care about board games, right.

Dan Apsey: 27:55

Because all they know is Pictionary. That's it?

Tambo: 27:59

The dreaded M word. Yeah.

JP: 28:02

mothership Munchkin Monopoly

Tambo: 28:05

I mentioned

JP: 28:07

last episode we did that last episode. That was allowed then it was allowed it was on the table. Yeah.

Tambo: 28:14

Yeah, so it's just gonna say what we think family good family it's all once we have to get to tier one we knew all the family enjoy so you can keep them interested and, and stuff like that. So what I'm gonna do I'm just gonna do some like cool like mechanics what I think is really what I personally think is really important in a family game. Yeah. And we'll just see if you know any good ones or you have played some good ones. All right. All right. So one of the biggest ones I think we should always put in place is a lightweight game. Yes, yes. I think if you ever want to get your family to a table

JP: 28:42

A lacerda.

Tambo: 28:42

Yeah, don't bring out weather machine or

JP: 28:47

whatever machine right guys we're about to play a game but Christmas I bought this game called Weather Mahine, Yeah,

Dan Apsey: 28:53

when you see yourself when you pull up the light game does your Lacerda shelf go...HI, what about me?

JP: 28:56

Yeah

Dan Apsey: 29:06

look up

JP: 29:06

you know what though? It's interesting. You mentioned lightweight because the in my head I'm trying to rationalise How can I get my family into heavy games? And then I always talk myself out of it for good reason. Yeah. Which is don't be an idiot. JP might put them off because they'll never play

Dan Apsey: 29:21

I've been there with friends who are not gamers and I dumped a Lacerda in front of them No, I haven't Yeah. Vinhos. And it's not go well. I've learned this was like early days this is like original Vinhos, I was excited to come and play this this is great. It's it's great and I like they're completely lost. Yeah, don't don't do it. Do it. I've done it. I've done it but there's

Rob: 29:45

lightweight then there's a lightweight game as in there's a lightweight and there's a lightweight game like yeah Uno, and then there's a lightweight board game as in a game that we'd play on the lighter end of our hobby Yeah, sure. I mean,

JP: 30:02

we talked about this on Kerleys episode where middle weight, Yeah, it's subjective in a way for we think

Dan Apsey: 30:09

very much.

Rob: 30:10

If you're going to upgrade to a mid to a mid weight game. Yeah. Then it's knowing your audience Yes. theme plays such a key factor,

Dan Apsey: 30:19

Hickory, dickory Hickory Dickory and I was told before I started watching the rule video that it was lightweight. So I looked sorry, no, immediate was medium weight. So okay, great. So if it's medium weight, this just sounds like it'd be it'd be alright for me. And I played the game like this light is anything, but if you put it in front of a new player, this probably would have been maybe even mid to heavy. Yeah, for me. It was like there's too light for me. Yeah.

Tambo: 30:45

I think you got to consist of times really for Yeah, time time with the family. Oh, because kids lose interest,

JP: 30:52

not just kids. Wives?

Tambo: 30:53

Oh, yeah. And people, you know. So timing is obviously a big thing on the lightweight section.

Rob: 30:57

I think quite honestly, the angriest I've ever seen my wife was when I made her sit down and play Arkham Horror. Yeah.

JP: 31:05

We still talk about this. By the way.

Dan Apsey: 31:06

Can I can I have some more context? Please. She

Rob: 31:08

offered to say, oh, let's try a board game. And I had one at the time, which was

Dan Apsey: 31:12

just the one.

JP: 31:14

Okay, now, not just one. Not not

Rob: 31:18

just the one. And we sat down and we played Arkham Horror, and that's when I saw the glaze.

Dan Apsey: 31:25

You had the glaze, but then you continued you didn't continue

Rob: 31:28

to fall chapter. Yeah, she literally got up on my That's fucking awful. I'm never doing that again. And she didn't speak to me for about 45 minutes. So angry. I done got messed up. But it was the only game I had. And she was bored. And she was like, Cool. Let's do it.

JP: 31:46

Oh, bless her for trying

Rob: 31:48

did. She actually

Dan Apsey: 31:49

played others since then. Yeah,

Tambo: 31:50

I think we'll just do what you said. You shouldn't do. So. Yeah, probably. You have a choice. They did us but it's very

Rob: 31:55

sour was Arkham Horror the card

Dan Apsey: 31:56

game game, the board game card game, which is not. It's not as light but it's not heavy. No. But

Rob: 32:04

but for me, I love that game. Yeah, that was the game that I jumped in on. So for me it wasn't heavy. But to her who'd never made any kind of role playing game card game or board game that was tested

Tambo: 32:17

the water may and I think it just

Rob: 32:19

I chucked her in the deep end out. So I think knowing your audience as well, because you say about like kids, but like some kids will be able to play the Midweight Games. Like Josh loves certain games that Ruby my youngest wouldn't play and at the same age, what's

Dan Apsey: 32:36

the heaviest that you could put in front of Josh?

JP: 32:39

It makes me think now on the spot.

Dan Apsey: 32:42

Because I had this I'm having this this

Rob: 32:44

phase Radlands with you. Yeah,

JP: 32:46

yeah. Plays Radlands. I wouldn't say that's

Tambo: 32:51

kind of like I'm gonna be really rude whole stuff. Nein, nein. So yeah,

Dan Apsey: 32:57

My daughter is nearly 8. And she plays patchwork and wins with me. So you know, could you a title two player? And then I'm trying to now think I had this just last weekend. What game can I play that might just add a little bit of extra mechanics, but not overwhelm her. That's in my collection? Yeah, it's like, oh, not really sure. Is wingspan too much for a seven year the eight year old, I think. I think it depends on the child. So

Tambo: 33:21

yeah, so cool. Obviously, obviously another mechanic, Rob, that could keep people a bit more interested.

Rob: 33:27

I think if you've got younger kids or people that don't, you can help them. Yes. Were like, you know, and it's part of the game. So you're not breaking the game by I'd use that card against them. Do you see what I mean? But we had a wonderful little bit inappropriate. We had a wonderful game of zombie side.

Dan Apsey: 33:46

I've just threw up in my mouth. Wow. anymore. Anymore anymore.

Rob: 33:54

But you like the once?

Dan Apsey: 33:55

Yeah,

Rob: 33:55

so that's fine. I did. We had a great game and again, she thought it was funny being the queen with a minigun Yeah, how using that throw and chucking loads of dice. She had a great time. Yeah. So that I would I've mentioned it before, but we played the descent together as well. And the shop, shop so yeah, those sort of

Tambo: 34:18

items seem to get money sniff to table Co Op always kind of wins like mansions. We'll get too much this next episode. But that's how massively Co Op meeting really

Rob: 34:25

wants to play too many bones because it's been sat on the table for him since Christmas. He really wants to play that. So

Tambo: 34:31

maybe he can help them out when he does. Yes,

Rob: 34:32

yeah. And it doesn't break the game. You're not You're not lowering the game or if you're showing them something. You know, you're not you're not breaking the you're not playing you're not making the game less by No, no, you're not telling telling them what to do, but giving them Yeah, exactly. Yeah. And I think that's a great mechanic, especially if they're younger or not really into heavy games. Yeah,

JP: 34:56

well, I couldn't play bones with Josh right Josh being a nine year old. If it was a competitive game, he wouldn't be able to do I don't think that because it's Co Op. He's I can let him make choices on how he builds a gear lock. And I'm like, is it the most efficient thing? Does it matter? Probably. Is he having fun? That's the main Yeah. This dad and I've done this and it's really cool because he now has this ability. Like is it good in this fight? No, we just got our asses kicked.don't matter its just a game.

Tambo: 35:25

Isn't it? My mistakes? He

JP: 35:27

hasn't played it for a while but you mentioned that I radlands lands, which is not cut up, it's actually had head to head and I quite like with family. Sometimes all you kids want to do is beat the dad. Yeah, just want to like gloat over the

Rob: 35:43

not today though not today.

JP: 35:47

To be fair, we got Rob lands. I think you bought me Robins birthday or something. And it took us awhile to kind of get it out and started playing it Josh just loved the artwork of it. It's very, very neon type of cyberpunk II kind of vibe post apocalyptic Mad Max. And, and yeah, as a kind of head to head car. But other it's, it's, it's quite accessible. It's not too many kind of key words going on. It's quite straightforward, but still enough depth in there for that to be really interesting game for a gamer to play. And he loves that game. And he was kicking my ass. Honestly, genuine, I was trying to be him. And he was like, just smashing me. So he got to the grips of that game faster than I did. And eventually I got caught off. And then we made you know, it's a lot more even now. Even now, I think last week he was saying how many games we played dad in law, what's the percentage on win loss ratio over the years? And he's like, Yeah, and I think I've just picked him now is I think we need some games, then we need to put some games in there. That's good. So I think you know the cops great. And I agree with you. I think if you've got anybody in your family wants to try and manage there's a madness. I think I know. Curley and Becky play with non gamers. And it's a good one. So even though it's quite punishing is a good one for Cymatics. But competitive as well. Sometimes you just want to competitively beat your parents. So

Tambo: 37:14

I think also this is one of the majors wants to get the kids involved. Everyone is a luck based game. Yeah. I think that gets into the playing field evens the playing field. Exactly. Right. So so you'd like say Josh could beat you because he's just been lucky. Yeah. And it makes it so much fun for them. Yes.

Rob: 37:29

That's why Cubitos is brilliant. Yeah,

Tambo: 37:32

that's an awesome game for

Rob: 37:33

brilliant for that.

JP: 37:34

Its completely luck based, isn't it? You're rolling dice

Tambo: 37:38

And you're pushing a lot which is really good. Like

Rob: 37:41

Kelly and Becky obviously as well. They talk about quacks.

Tambo: 37:45

quacks quacks and the first thing

Dan Apsey: 37:47

I'm alright with because it's pushed your luck. I'm I'm alright with pushing. It's just pure luck. It's a complete turnoff for me. Yeah,

Tambo: 37:54

like Zombicide

Rob: 37:55

if you play him for you, that's a pure luck. But if you're playing with your family, if you're playing because when you're playing with your family, more often than not, you're playing to spend time with them. Yeah, that you're not watching a movie or you're not. You know, it's to spend time with them. the fun. That's

Tambo: 38:13

the whole wind. Right? Yeah. Your family to take

Rob: 38:16

on having fun, and everyone has a great game. And everyone talks about it was that was really fun. You know, it does make that experience, right? Because you have to the experience, not necessarily again,

Tambo: 38:27

especially if you get the non gamers to have fun as well. Yeah, yeah. So

Rob: 38:30

I had a little experience with this. Christmas Eve, I took my carooka board over to my family that we were spending, obviously, they invited us over Christmas Eve some food. They said, Have you got any board games? I said I've got a couple

Tambo: 38:47

you tested yet?

Rob: 38:49

So I took my carooka board over and as soon as I walked in, everyone just was like, What on earth is this? And again, like it's a dexterity game. I've talked about it a lot. So

Tambo: 38:59

you didn't take arkham horror? I did not take

Dan Apsey: 39:05

the corner when armbands bled the first brilliant, but

Rob: 39:11

they were asking so many questions about this, this board and everything else. And they to the point where both of them have just ordered two boards, because there's two separate they've ordered boards and I went to take it away and they were like, Can we can we borrow this for a couple of days? Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah, let him borrow it and they sat and played it all Christmas day or you

Dan Apsey: 39:34

stay with them for the couple days while they had

JP: 39:37

handcuffed to the board Make sure they were fine. And

Rob: 39:41

they didn't lose any discs or anything which but yeah, so like sometimes you get unexpected but then they get really into it Yeah. Which was really cool and it's really fun to see you know Simon the kind of head of the family almost is playing against Ruby my my nine year old so it was a game that everyone can kind of because it's dexterity game and reflect their reaction to it absolutely blew my mind that they were like this is this is fantastic. This is great.

JP: 40:06

Yeah, continuing the theme. The Las Vegas Royale is a great one to wheel out in front of the family. Now I play that with my immediate family. I play it with Michelle's mom, stepdad and her sister etc. And it's just, you know, it's a bit of a laugh. You're just chucking dice into the middle and you're like betting and you're just trying to get as much cash as you can and half the time it you know you crap it and everyone laughs at you because you just pushed it too hard and yeah, it's just a nice fun. Little betting game. Yeah. Love it.

Tambo: 40:40

Yeah, that's what's that says it's the whole gamble side. They just full of it's like quacks was mine, Rob said. Yeah. Which is one of my favourite all time building games. Yeah. Do you have any Dan?

Dan Apsey: 40:51

strike.Oh, by the way, the dice is great fun with the kids playing striker all the time. Because there's some skill involved a little bit, you just dice arena. And there's one dice in that is a standard D six, but the one is replaced with an X Yeah. And all you're doing is you've got I think it's like seven dice, you start within your own pile, and you're trying to strategically throw a dice into the middle, and knock any dice that are in there so that any spaces that match become yours. So you're trying to hold them to as many dice as you can. But if any of these dice go to the X side they are removed from play. But if you throw all the dice and they all match, then you take all the dice out and your opponent who's next to go has to throw all of their dice in have to go all in. And then if there's no if there's no matches, they're out. As when you have to throw one in on your turn or you make after you've done that you've made them pass you can choose to pass. And basically the last person standing wins and it's just a little bit of fun. I did a Harry Potter themed one as well randomly on my copies, a French copy because I bought mine years ago and it wasn't an English one around lists,

JP: 42:02

Le strike

Dan Apsey: 42:03

And yeah, playing with the kids. They're not it's fantastic. It's a great little fun game. It doesn't just requires no no, no thought. It's just random dice. And it's good fun. Yeah,

JP: 42:13

I think I've seen being played. I just never actually knew the mechanics of it. Sounds more interesting.

Dan Apsey: 42:18

You could incorporate it with a few to drinkies if you want to do it that way. Yeah, it's but it's good fun. It's just a good one. It was a game where if we had a game night and the game was finished a little early. Yeah, we go strike. And then you get strike by that strike before people go for

JP: 42:33

gaming dessert.

Dan Apsey: 42:34

Yes, very much. So.

Tambo: 42:36

Very good. That sounds great. Fun. Yeah. And so another one is dexterity then so because

Dan Apsey: 42:38

Great fun. when you're you're physically here that's a really I think that's a really good thing for kids to enjoy. I don't actually have that many games. Yeah, when nephew went to play klask when he was in the board game marathon and he loved it. So we played Viking boat as well. You know, I haven't got it. So oh Adrian the Adrian sea salt. Yes, I was looking at buying it was quite expensive. What it is, but that's can be fun for for anything like that, I believe like biting games is, is always quick and going again, lightweight. So it goes in that area, for sure. Push your Luck again, goes in that area. So it was kind of all kind of going into, like a modern day buckaroo.

Tambo: 43:14

Yeah, yes.

Dan Apsey: 43:15

Don't say Buckaroo with your fingers in your mouth like that.

JP: 43:19

I did see talking dexterity. Just Just talking dexterity I've seen on Instagram actually have a game called Kugo que you K U G O, and it comes in this box, literally like a cube. And it's all full of wooden, kind of different bits and shapes. If you look at like kids, building blocks, or cylinders, and blocks and ramps and different things, I think the idea is that you can assemble a course and you have these discs that you can flick. Yeah. And you can basically have loads of different game modes out there. And I think it's one of those quite fun family games. Also,

Dan Apsey: 44:03

it was the original one. bausack. Yeah, it's looking at what bausack was.

Rob: 44:08

So be careful if you're looking that up

Dan Apsey: 44:14

No, Google, BU S A C K. I think they changed the name to Bandau probably because bausack sounds a little bit like something else like something else. So yeah, but if that is like a basically a box full of bricks, and they are there are cream coloured ones and there are red ones. And then there was like that game and it's always in a bag. It's a baggie of of crystal pieces as well. The rubies in Caverna. And all it is is that like there's like five games in the book. Yeah, and like you know, some of them can be stalking games with a red shapes are significantly more complex than the cream. And yet it's been out for years.

JP: 44:54

Kind of similar to that then yeah, I've not looked too much into it at the moment, but I keep seeing videos on it. Oh, this looks interesting on we got a lot of dexterity fans in the podcast and gaming group and definitely you know, it's nice to just go around and play yes children.

Rob: 45:12

And the nice for especially if you have been playing a certain type of game

JP: 45:16

yeah, refresh reset. Yeah,

Rob: 45:18

a palate cleanser. Yeah. If we're going on the whole food, meal out

Tambo: 45:26

I always wanted the game rip Chris when we went under his house and we played toss the hot dog is it you throw each other Last

JP: 45:35

night we went out and your own nose brie. Oh

Tambo: 45:43

yes. The other one as well. And the burritos coming back

Dan Apsey: 45:48

to that one copy of that before it was released I managed to grab a copy from a shop that was selling it before release date and have the kickstart back retail copy of the Kickstarter version of it. So the back the load, got one and I had it was like a week before the second board game marathon that we did. I thought that's gonna go down really, really well. And it did. It was an act it so so fun. And I think people were playing it from like midnight to like 5am that so many people were just literally just throwing burritos around everywhere. You can now buy an inflatable version giant version, we did a really big burrito.

Rob: 46:21

That'd be great.

JP: 46:22

do have a good memory of that that afternoon in Chris's garden. So we were just playing lobbing burritos

Tambo: 46:28

that was with the group, not a family. But again, it's something you definitely play with the family

Rob: 46:33

I've actually got two copies, given my Kerley got me one, and then somebody got this one as a Christmas present. But no, we played it. My youngest didn't like the fanatic. It's quite frenzy, isn't it? Yeah, she didn't get on with that. But my eldest loved it. And my wife loved it, especially when they're like fuzzing burritos each other proper

JP: 46:55

once we got into Okay, so

Tambo: 46:58

that's one is accusation games and kind of kind of like I know, it's funny, but backstabbing. Sort of like slip stitching,

Rob: 47:05

because you're podcast Mate

Tambo: 47:09

kids enjoy if you can still love it. So yeah, again, so love letter is a huge thing. Yeah. Okay. It's because that's, uh, you know, if you get a guard and you get the right person, you're out there. Absolutely love.

Rob: 47:19

I don't care what age you are. That is amazing. Yeah. Yeah, that's

Tambo: 47:23

all ages. I don't know if you guys know any other kind of stitchy epi kind of

JP: 47:27

sabatore is the one that springs to mind.

Rob: 47:29

My oldest daughter loves being Sabatore at all, like, shocked me how much she enjoys being horrible git right. Like, honestly,

Tambo: 47:39

genuinely take us on explain stuff at all. Because

JP: 47:41

yeah, it's where you'll dwarves. And if you've not played it, you start

Rob: 47:45

you have a starting point and you have an angle. So there's three end goals. One of them is gold. The other two is coal. Right? There's eight spaces between the start and the end, and it's your job to tunnel. So to put down cards that get you from A to B. If you're the saboteur, which there is a chance there's a chance where you might be but yes, you don't actually know. But there's so they'll put stitch up cards down which blocked you know, tunnels that end that good don't go anywhere or that other other people have got a tunnel around what you've blocked off or you can cave in tunnels breaking the chain therefore

Tambo: 48:23

you have mentioned this for the podcast,

Rob: 48:25

which is great. And but there's so even if you're not the saboteur, if you find the gold you get the most gold you get the first dibs. So there's strategies to the so if you think well if I put that down, they're gonna put down the cards. Oh, yeah. So there is strategies and making them take longer, which then you get accused of being saddled. So they break your tools, you can't lay cards, things like that, and they're really quick, fun games. But she's like my my oldest she loved being the saboteur. She absolutely loved it, so

Tambo: 48:59

you'd like a hidden saboteur in it as well. So you can accuse other people. They love that sort of thing. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. She liked that. Another one massive favourite is Exploding Kittens from my family. Yeah. I mean, every time I sneeze comes to the has to come to the table. Even I kind of go in there. But it's they love it.

JP: 49:17

I enjoy kittens in fairness for what it is. It's a bit of a laugh. It's funny. It's like kind of similar, because Ooh, no, isn't it it's like,

Tambo: 49:25

but kittens is a bit more bonkers. And it's why because Yeah, so the notecards you can open open open and stuff like that they just love it. Yeah.

JP: 49:34

Cone of Shame. Yes. And one of the Imploding kittens expand. Yeah, expansion with a cone that you put around your head by like, like you put around a dog. It's massive. So if you don't if you don't know whose turn is whose turn is you have to put the Cone of Shame on Oh yeah.

Tambo: 49:53

I don't see that one is brilliant. Now. It's like a storm. So if you have like the older generation of your family that your grandparents or parents come over I think the important thing for a game we want to get to is comfort so if they don't have to leave the living room and sit on a couch and play a game I think that's quite appalling thing to bring to the family sometimes and and get everybody involved that's what we me personally is my own family but sometimes to get well man involved on Monday like to be comfy on the couch. And then we'll get involved Yeah, so some good games that one game I always they always there was just one We talk all the time in the gaming group. Yeah, but it's

JP: 50:29

one you don't even have to get up do you. Like you literally can just First round. Yeah,

Tambo: 50:33

yeah. So just wants a really good one and which I've played with Christmas which we played strong point which was went down like a storm. Oh, you got it. Have you? Yeah, I've got a Christmas I bought it for wedding my sister and Christmas. Yes, we get the family to play around. But again, you don't have to leave the couch because you can just pick the cards give you tokens.

JP: 50:51

It surprised me. How much fun I have playing strong, because I played games similar to that, like, back in the 80s and 90s. Right. Yeah. But there's something about you know, it's not about knowing the answers. That's not really what it's about. It's about knowing the people Yeah, they you think they know they couldn't be last year? Yeah, it was it was so fun. I really enjoyed that. And it's just a nice chill way we did it a great con as well didn't mean we played a few rounds with Brian from always played blue. Hi, Brian, I know you're listening. And yeah, it's just a nice game. Yeah, I agree. I

Tambo: 51:29

think trivia is good thing for the whole day. All the questions and yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So yeah, that's that one and one other games any once you don't have to move the seat for?

Rob: 51:41

Not necessarily once you do it? Well, once you don't have to sit but if you're sat around the table, dobble dobble dobble. See, I've seen my aunties, uncles, my mom, like play that game and have a lot of fun playing

Tambo: 51:53

I hate dobble. I tried playing. But if everyone's having fun of the family, that's fine. It doesn't mean they're stupid. Yeah.

Rob: 52:00

It makes you feel stupid, staring at cards, I've got enough. And it turns out you didn't you had two things on there the whole time. Yeah.

JP: 52:08

Can't find the birds. No bird on it. Oh, there is. Yeah, it's

Rob: 52:11

just upside down and smaller.

Dan Apsey: 52:13

Yeah, you've got like half a deck left. And your kids have all finished. And this is like, I can't see I can't see any matches. Yeah, nothing matches.

Rob: 52:25

Yeah, you've got that. But it's a great game to get get. I'd like you saying like light hearted. If everyone's in a good you know, everyone's in that light hearted spirit. Like, the games are great. If anyone's taking it a little bit too seriously, a family night? If you're playing TI, you're gonna take it seriously. Yeah. If you if you're, if you're playing a family game, regardless of what it is, with the intensity that you're playing a TI like a 4x game or something like that, then you're doing it wrong. And that's probably then, you know, that part isn't enjoyable.

Dan Apsey: 53:00

It's audience as well. And it's not often you wont get TI out with Aunt Gladys. Dont think She's gonna like it very much.

JP: 53:05

She cares. Have you tried?

Dan Apsey: 53:07

I've not tried. Have you tried?

JP: 53:08

No, no, no, obviously not. Oh, no, you know, but don't have an angular this. No, no,

Dan Apsey: 53:14

but if you did, yeah, absolutely. Yeah. tottes?

JP: 53:19

No, of course.

Dan Apsey: 53:21

could think of that go, oh, you know what I'm gonna place on a coffee table tonight, rather than then set the table. And there are games that you could play like a play wingspan on the coffee table, and it would be fine. It wouldn't take up too much space. And I would, I've got I've got family members who I played wingspan with, and played it on the coffee table. And it's and it's nice and it's comfortable. And you know, you've got you've got your sofas and you've got your beanbags and it's quite comfortable. Sushi Go is one of those. I've sat there on the sofa, actually and played on a coffee table. Love Sushi Go.

JP: 53:56

Yeah, we played FTW for the win. And I thought it was WTF when I first saw it by the face. Why the face? Yeah. Designed by Friedemann, Friese. Yes, on a lot of games. And I'm trying to think how it works. But it's basically a deck with numbers of 1234 all the way up to God knows how many 60s like

Dan Apsey: 54:21

Like his Fuji flush game.

JP: 54:22

Yeah. And it's, it's kinda like you're, you're trying to play all your cards, and you tried to increase the number, the one that's been played before, you can take a card into like your reserve. And then you may use one of your reserve cards with the one you play and add the numbers together to get high number,

Dan Apsey: 54:45

Sound like Fuji flush.

JP: 54:47

Maybe it's very similar idea. And it was one of those ones where I didn't actually play with the family. But I could see working like for that game where you could all sit on a sofa, just behind the cards and chuck them in the middle on a coffee table. Very easy, quite a lot of depth for what it actually is. And I think like you, you will score or the negative points for every number cards they'll have in your hand at the end once someone goes out. And so yeah, that was quite fun. Okay, Scout scout. Yeah, yeah, class.

Tambo: 55:22

Yeah, coffee table job, isn't it but that's that's yeah,

Dan Apsey: 55:24

scout is good for that

Tambo: 55:26

for Christmas as well. So we have a game with that. So

JP: 55:29

always play that.

Tambo: 55:31

So everybody got another one. My favourite one is worker placement with a very few games which you probably can get the whole family down for worker placement. Do you think I've played lords of waterdeep. That's the ones I would that's the only one I would have got to the that the whole family the younger would just get hauled off because it's simple.

Dan Apsey: 55:46

Agricola Family Edition Yeah. Yeah because it's just stripped all the cards and it's just placing placing your workers out and it's just much easier condensed version of Agricola

JP: 55:58

to fair play that standard version with Josh so you asked me what games Josh play?

Dan Apsey: 56:04

Agricola it's no it's it is Latin for Farmer

Rob: 56:10

only said it to wind JP up

JP: 56:15

It's working

Tambo: 56:20

I cant ever think of any

JP: 56:21

viticulture goes down as well

Dan Apsey: 56:23

Yeah.

JP: 56:24

Because of it's theme. Yeah, played a fair few games of viticulture. Visually

Dan Apsey: 56:29

though I find for family but if you've got family that no offence are switched on

JP: 56:35

then it's not for everyone. Don't get me. Wrong. We

Dan Apsey: 56:37

laugh for everyone. No, but it's yeah, you've got certain family memberds. You've played a few maybe play Ticket to Ride something extra. Yeah, for two members

JP: 56:45

of my family have bought viticulture after playing. Yeah, yeah.

Rob: 56:49

its not a worker placement as such. But the villainous Disney villain. Yep, that Marvel villain is actually selection but spine is similar vein. Yeah. Yeah, my,

Tambo: 57:01

my kids will say themes can be quite a different thing. as well. If you said is played Disney game, is it? Yeah, like all player Marvel game? Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.

Dan Apsey: 57:11

Last weekend, I was I was in the car. And my son was off to a birthday party, which meant I had to sort of entertain my eldest. And she wanted to play a board game with daddy. And I'm like, so I nudged my wife in the oven. You wait for this watch, watch. Watch. I'm gonna do now. So yeah, we're gonna play a game called Star Wars rebellion, which takes about three hours really, really, really complicated. And it's Star Wars knowing that probably she well, she'll go Oh, yuck. No, not Star Wars, even if she secretly likes it. She goes and says, Okay, daddy. Sounds great. We didn't play it. But I was very tempted to get that puppy. Should I Yeah. Oh, no, maybe not.

JP: 57:47

Maybe we regret that. Yes,

Dan Apsey: 57:49

maybe maybe in five years time is

JP: 57:50

Heres your leader. And she says what?!!

Dan Apsey: 57:55

But she did express an interest. So I'll take that as a win.

JP: 57:58

How old is she?

Dan Apsey: 57:59

Seven.

JP: 58:00

Okay. Not long.

Rob: 58:02

In theory you could play imperial assault

Dan Apsey: 58:04

yeah It's that coop thing. Yeah were talking about coop. It made me think of imperial assault sort of, maybe maybe worth playing the deck building game. Yes. My son loves Star Wars, but he's he's six and he's not there yet. And he says his favourite character is Kylo Ren. I've considered disowning him. It's not right. But my daughter she she does express more of an interest and but it's trying, it's picking the right time because you need to wait for him to bugger off. Because otherwise he gets involved and it doesn't work. So it needs to be just mean time.

Rob: 58:42

And games like that, though. My youngest will help me. So Daddy will come and help you.

Dan Apsey: 58:47

Yeah, true.

Rob: 58:49

She'll help her sister into it. And they're like, especially when they're villainous. They're like yeah, that's fate daddy. Love it. Like you know, they get a problem like yeah, you're having it and I'm like, Okay,

JP: 59:01

nice. I'm winning here.

Tambo: 59:03

Okay, so that's cool with that so we just do a quick round robin have a question now. So really good obviously if we favour family game Oh, think not just you enjoyed the whole family gets on with

JP: 59:13

Yeah. Oh, crap. Pick someone else.

Tambo: 59:16

Dan, thanks. Time's up. While JP is thinking

Dan Apsey: 59:20

Namiji. you can play it with family because it's just not too heavy. It is a bit too heavy for people around the table. It really isn't. It is no big because the media is it's obviously assist the counterpart pick him up afterwards. But Tokaido is literally walking along the Edo river. And you're going from one end of the board to the other. All you're doing is you're just having a laugh and a nice time. It's super chill. You're picking up cards you're picking up you're getting points trying to get the most points as you can. And you're stopping off at restaurants to eat food. And it's just super chill and for family game for me it's great business.

Tambo: 59:55

Rob do you have for your family?

Rob: 59:58

My family probably enjoy.

Tambo: 1:00:00

villainess most of what I've done I probably love that

Rob: 1:00:04

that's the game that we can all play either that or peruca quite enjoy that as well. And again 20 minutes jobn done

JP: 1:00:15

I've got mine and we've got it on it. Yes ping. Things were made. I get games every Christmas Eve for the family. So it fluctuates so yeah,

Dan Apsey: 1:00:25

Your day

JP: 1:00:25

my day we're playing games. So the favourite game usually is the one we've we've recently playing but I think The one that that's kind of stood the test of time for us is cubitos. With literally talking about it, and today at lunch. We're gonna play that again. Josh, was it? Yeah, we should play that and just laugh. Just fun, silly, silly. Seriously,

Tambo: 1:00:49

I think I'll have to have get a copy at some point.

JP: 1:00:51

Yeah, it's just, you know, it's fun. I need to get the expansion, but it's not I don't think it's been released yet. More players you can play up to 6 why he didn't need because it's everyone does it. But it's simultaneous play. So be limited to four players just need a few more, I think make a bit more.

Rob: 1:01:11

That's that's a game where an expansion of players makes sense. Yeah, definitely. And it's not going to hold the get it's not going to make the game any longer.

JP: 1:01:18

It might a little bit but not, not massively

Rob: 1:01:22

Not and not to any substantial level. It'll just add

JP: 1:01:25

up more races onto the map. Quite. So good.

Rob: 1:01:29

I enjoy that game so much.

Dan Apsey: 1:01:30

I've not played it

Rob: 1:01:31

I mean, great fun.

JP: 1:01:33

Bit of a laugh. We'll do it.

Tambo: 1:01:36

So the one I would suggest for myself, and it's Codenames. Okay. Yeah. I've been out to my table like family, everyone. lets play codenames, codenames, and it will get everybody to the table

JP: 1:01:43

if they request the game for you. Yeah, you're a winner.

Tambo: 1:01:48

Yeah. Yeah,

JP: 1:01:51

you've won. Yeah, because let's play the game. We love it. Yeah, do it do it to

Tambo: 1:01:55

point it codenames at my parents when we all meet because it's central. It's

Dan Apsey: 1:01:58

when they say again when you haven't got it. And he got Rapidough. And he got rapidough.

JP: 1:02:04

strategico

Dan Apsey: 1:02:05

No, I have rapidough. Oh, no, I have not.

Rob: 1:02:08

Have you got hungry hippos?

Dan Apsey: 1:02:10

we got and we got trivial if you got Pictionary. No gran. No, sorry. We haven't. No, no, we got a deal or no deal. I mean, you got the cube? Yeah, we got. You got cube for your nan. Yeah, like you got killed.

JP: 1:02:30

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Dan Apsey: 1:02:31

Oh, ya know what those saying that we had many times many Christmases playing the PlayStation version of that. Yeah, I think we did is we play party plays for people. But wherever you just sit around a games console at Christmas and try and get to 1,000,000 of yours. It will get to a million and like the whole room was like YEAH, what should we do now? We get the cheese out. Yeah. Yeah, get get cheese board out. But obviously wouldn't be a real million. But yeah.

Tambo: 1:03:01

Okay. A game, you would love to get to table better than never play.

JP: 1:03:04

You've gone by Marvel champion. Yeah, that's a good that's a good shout.

Rob: 1:03:09

If I could play for player with me. My wife and my two kids. Yeah. Playing Marvel champions.

Dan Apsey: 1:03:15

I think that would be a good day. I think It'd be great. A good day.

JP: 1:03:18

that was three years ago.

Rob: 1:03:18

I think they'd enjoy it as well. But for my youngest, it's a little bit too complex. Yeah. For my eldest, she try and stretch that and stay true to the character. She does Marvel and she loves more so but she we played on holiday. We played on holiday, but she needed quite a bit of assistance. Yeah. My wife was It was. my wife. I think she'd enjoy it as well. Although she'd never

JP: 1:03:44

had it. I don't think she would mean I think she was

Rob: 1:03:49

Yeah, again, though.

Dan Apsey: 1:03:50

Its the horro all over again.

JP: 1:03:53

It's cards and mechanics. Yeah. Do you think

Dan Apsey: 1:03:56

Rob love I'm drowning? I'm drowning love.

Rob: 1:04:01

I think she I think she would. My wife does this thing where like she, she gets really stressed me trying to teach her a game. And then she turns out she enjoys it. Like we played Catan in lockdown.

Dan Apsey: 1:04:15

Bless you. Did you survive?

Rob: 1:04:16

She won

Dan Apsey: 1:04:17

fair.

Rob: 1:04:18

Then we then we played it around here on a Chinese night. And she saw the real JP. Because he got really nasty in the game. Obviously. Not

Dan Apsey: 1:04:29

the real one. The other the catan one. Yeah,

JP: 1:04:32

I can't surprise my family. With, oh lets play a game. It doesn't work. Right. So it has to be this kind of pre arranged thing. Yeah. From for me my interest. I cannot go right. We're playing a game. Let's play, Chelle will be going. No, Watching Coronation Street. Kids like Josh would be on his quest three. Right, whatever. It just wouldn't be a thing. So for me, it has to be like this arranged of a diary. Yeah, seven weeks in advance. Yeah, but long notice.

Dan Apsey: 1:05:10

Probably pick up roleplayer Yeah. roleplayer by I really want to play this game. thunderworks something games Forgive me. So give me...might be Yeah, people who did cartographers but they did roleplayer first because like d&d before you'd go out on a d&d adventure. Yeah.

JP: 1:05:29

Character building.

Dan Apsey: 1:05:30

Yeah, it's character building with dice from that. relation dice rolling. And it's, it's definitely it's definitely midway, especially with expansions and things and it but it's, there's a lot of theme in there for a game with a bunch of cards and dice is there's lots of a lot going on lots of theme. And I think it probably would take a few over the edge. But I know that I have people in my family that was actually really, really enjoy it. And it was really great. I built this character, and nothing and it's really good. And the dice really chunky and nice and the bits oh the bits. But yeah, it's just, yeah, it might take them over the edge. Again.

JP: 1:06:05

About you T?

Tambo: 1:06:07

I think the one that I would love to get save on TM to get my family involved cuz I know certain members that I think...

Dan Apsey: 1:06:14

Thats brave

Tambo: 1:06:14

I think I would never get through the teaching part of it with them. That's the problem. But if I did, I've actually played one of my mom's played it for me, it will take just the base one, just the standard straightforward base. And she she didn't do it in the end. But last couple years ago, she's been holding up less, so it's going a bit harder. But I think my sister would enjoy it. And if we can get through the Teach of it, though. And I want to I think yeah, but I wouldn't I don't think a lot of patience get from the teacher. Table, and if they'd like to fight, they actually did enjoy it, which would be good. But yeah, TM will be mine. Because I think they would enjoy it. If they just gave it the time.

JP: 1:06:45

I found the game. Yeah. Just to go from my collection. Which one for me? Hallertau. Ah, so Uwe. Rosenberg. Yeah. Crop crop rotation. So the theme of champions, right? Absolutely. But for me, I love that game. It's probably one of my favourite Uwe games, and it's possibly on the cusp of being a bit too much. Maybe? Not, maybe it is probably is. But for me, I just love it. And if I can just get that as I can I family game

Dan Apsey: 1:07:18

would you try and dip their toes into Agricola,

JP: 1:07:20

Yeah, I have played agricola with my son. But you're probably right. That would be a better first and then like this. What about the ever saying that the the challenge with agricola is that it's the cards that you have at the beginning? Yes. Is having occupation cards, symbols. Yeah. Seven minor improvement guards. There's 14 cars that you got to look at. You don't even know what you're doing. Which I think you could probably not have on your first game and just ditch them.

Dan Apsey: 1:07:47

The original version of agricola did had a family mode built in. Yes. And you just took away the cards. I think I can

JP: 1:07:53

do that. Yeah.

Dan Apsey: 1:07:56

It makes it it makes it a lot the

Rob: 1:07:57

puzzle. That's what you do. That's introduced this game. It's true. bored of playing the base that Yeah, so I don't get to play that much. So I've chucked in four expansions,

Dan Apsey: 1:08:07

bring in bring in the expansions.

Rob: 1:08:10

I've put in all the expansions and

JP: 1:08:12

Chelles complained about this. Something else like

Rob: 1:08:16

playing base and then I want to play more. But yeah, you do that a lot with games.

JP: 1:08:21

Yeah.

Tambo: 1:08:22

Okay, so wrapping up the main event. I hope the listeners got some good ideas from games. The family on that. Yeah. So that's it.

JP: 1:08:28

Sweet

Tambo: 1:08:38

so would you rather give all your power to your family about your board game collection by selling what you can play and who with?

Rob: 1:08:47

have to?

Tambo: 1:08:50

Or never be able to add to your collection again?

Rob: 1:08:52

I've got

Dan Apsey: 1:08:55

to to your crazy man crazy.

Tambo: 1:08:59

So you can never be able to add to collection again? Yeah, keep the

Dan Apsey: 1:09:02

collection. Yeah, be happy with what I got. Yeah, me too. Oh, give my family my power.

JP: 1:09:07

So we might be a one again. Take so

Tambo: 1:09:08

would you rather give all your power to your family about your book and collection? buying, selling? The selling business you play with? And we play when you play what you plan when you play? Oh, it'll have to be like a family meeting and voting. It'd be a voting thing.

JP: 1:09:23

I might go one. First one. You know why?

Rob: 1:09:27

Because you're a sadist?

JP: 1:09:28

No. There's always a risk that my family would go I'm just gonna sell all your games and buy something useful for them. Not for me, but I think they love me so much. I was gonna say they were saying the fact that I'm away playing games. So short,

Dan Apsey: 1:09:43

horrible disturbance in the force.

Tambo: 1:09:46

I imagined might well also. Always be discussions, but they have the final say what happens as well as they hold it against you as blackmailing blackmailer. Well,

Rob: 1:09:57

I've just watched Josh comes in and say, Daddy, I want an extra hour on the VR. And I'm gonna sell bones for 50 quid if you don't give it if you don't give it to Josh.

JP: 1:10:06

Josh knows that when I pass the mortal plane is that game will go to him. He's what he already knows. This is what he said. Is that when you go I get bones dont I Dad. Thanks for I'm still here.

Rob: 1:10:20

Ready to roll? Okay.

Tambo: 1:10:23

You got to understand it wouldn't be like a single person but it'd be a voting system. It'd be a family meeting. Okay.

Rob: 1:10:29

Right. So when they tally it up, so we just went on give it too many bones and have to have a meeting about it. Yeah. And but like so we come to the end of the week and shows that we forgot to take the bins out twice this week. That never happened. Hang on, hang on. Caitlin's like you wouldn't drop me into town on Saturday. And Josh's like, I missed football because you couldn't be bothered to go. We're getting rid of boat. We've come to a collective decision. We're getting rid of bones and we're selling it for 25 pounds.

JP: 1:10:57

That's option one. Okay. Yeah, and then divorce them and getting a family So You Think You never

Tambo: 1:11:03

let you play games? I'll

JP: 1:11:04

never leave. I think I

Rob: 1:11:07

playing games is fine. It's that selling and buying.

Dan Apsey: 1:11:10

Yeah, it's too much.

JP: 1:11:11

I think they'll feel too guilty. Oh, look at my puppy dog face. Now we're gonna play a game with a and I will make them feel really, really gonna sell my games? .

Rob: 1:11:23

Bones right. Otherwise, chances are I'm never gonna pay for it for that shit is gone. I'm not bothered about voidfall.

JP: 1:11:30

I mean, yes thing. It would sting a lot. But if that's what they think is best for me. It's option 2. No question. There's a way around it. There were my family. I think I could make one work and still, you know, get extra games and my

Dan Apsey: 1:11:49

daughter be like, you see this void for boxing? Yeah, well, I want this question Mallow this year, but

Tambo: 1:11:56

it's not just her decision, though. I have a voting system.

Dan Apsey: 1:12:02

Why? She wants it and it's so squishy

JP: 1:12:09

upbeat, she'll go, I'll keep everything exactly how it is. I like that you play games with your mate.

Rob: 1:12:14

Definitely likes from room. Yeah. Otherwise,

JP: 1:12:17

I'm watching programmes that I want to watch. And she can't watch that. So I think we've gotten a nice nice arrangement, but it would

Rob: 1:12:25

be a power that they hold. Oh,

JP: 1:12:27

come on. They got all the power. Face it

Tambo: 1:12:32

okay, for me, it's the first one so it's easy for you. I'm not suddenly my brother, sister Mom and Dad Dad. I think decision for it. So don't just deal with care. Okay.

JP: 1:12:41

Games. So that's it? Yeah. It's a tough one. There's always a risk they'll sell everything

Rob: 1:12:49

let us know what you what you do at home listeners

JP: 1:12:52

Yeah. Depends on your family. Yeah.

Tambo: 1:13:05

exciting games coming up then or anything game related or not related. Matters doesn't

JP: 1:13:10

it doesn't matter. No. But we've got something genetic generally that we're all looking forward to. Yes. Which is the Devon board gaming weekend? Yes. Which is awesome. Yes. So we went last year. bloggers and they also read it to me. Yep. Yeah. Davey, and they released Kerleys Yeah. Very intimate kind of convention.

Dan Apsey: 1:13:29

I wasn't in the podcast then.

JP: 1:13:32

didn't know. But it's done just Yeah. A little bit. A little bit. Yeah, we did an episode with you. What more did you want?

Dan Apsey: 1:13:40

What did you it's true is true.

JP: 1:13:43

But it was a very, very kind of small intimate convention and lovely place out in Devon, obviously being the Devon board gaming weekend. And it's just great fun. I can't wait to do it. Yeah, I'm really looking forward to the great hosts looked after all the guests and made us feel so welcome. Food was awesome. Like, it was just a lovely weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I love the quiz and we got drunk.

Rob: 1:14:09

I just missed this. The location of the incident rum gate. Yes. The Rum rush scandal probably the top 10 Most hungover I've ever been in my life. Yeah, you were broken. I was broken

Tambo: 1:14:23

will never see them like it

JP: 1:14:25

matter. On Sunday. He was went out no, no. I'll find and play Atiwa he's next to us with his head in his hands.

Rob: 1:14:35

To go and walk around outside for like an hour, I will find this. But still, we had a great weekend like loads of really, really down to earth chill people. Very much looking forward to it again.

JP: 1:14:46

I think collectively that's what we've got. But individually, I have no idea what's going on. Well, I'm

Tambo: 1:14:52

hopefully by the time this is released. Maybe there'll be a section when you gave him table.

Rob: 1:14:56

Oh, yeah, Still is still not coming?

Tambo: 1:14:59

I'm not bothered about the waiting. And we're anxious now because there's been a lot of bad packaging about the tabletops they've been chipped and covered and damaged. So it's a bit I'm bit anxious about ash. That's

Rob: 1:15:09

the one bad thing about Kickstarter is obviously if that was any other company you would claim money back.

Tambo: 1:15:14

Yeah, I see. I see that on Kickstarter. So I'm very anxious about it. Cuz obviously they got our Facebook page and the shoe company. So I'm not sure the company has the iron sights back project or I'd say table right. Yeah. Isn't there a company would it be? I'm not sure. For sure. But yeah, there's been a lot of pictures of like the, the tabletops have been packed quite right. And they've been coming in chipped. And obviously I'm getting it from a lot longer for coming in the UK. And the table mat underneath apparently people saying you got to stretch out, but it's not quite fitting. And there was a massive delay as well with the table because they wanted to get the table mats, right. And now they've made a tiny bit short parody, like just enough for a cast this could slip through. But they say if you are in or stretch it out, it does work. So that's the other world. was a few hiccups. But they also they've got to fix it

Rob: 1:15:58

Fingers crossed in packing in wave two. But unfortunately, I'm wave one. So that's not really good enough. But I never know you only say that about the bad stuff, then. There must be other tables they're fine and they're just not mentioned in

JP: 1:16:14

a crowdfunding thing anyway. You know, if you're doing a mass production order, you're gonna have defects, you're gonna have things quite right. It's not gonna be a perfect run. So I think it's just how companies will deal with it, I suppose. Yeah, I am excited to see what happened. But yeah, you've been looking forward to this table for I think you were a year ago talking about it? Oh, it's been maybe even longer. Yes.

Tambo: 1:16:35

Before when I got the extension. It's been nearly two years now.

Dan Apsey: 1:16:37

How many people are gonna get around it? Oh,

Tambo: 1:16:39

I've got the extended version. So you can actually have that as a six seater or you can extend it to an eight extension. And I'll always gonna frame I think, just keep it as an eight all the time. Yeah. So I and so it's actually an iron slde. So it's not wooden it's iron. Yeah. So it's bit cheaper. Yeah, normal table.

JP: 1:16:56

Look nicer in your extension. Yeah.

Tambo: 1:17:01

We could look forward to it.

JP: 1:17:02

Nice. Okay, that's okay. I'm looking forward to move in house.

Rob: 1:17:08

So another thing that's been long time coming

JP: 1:17:11

Jesus Christ as it I started this process, March of last year. It's now when this is released February. So 11 months you might be in your new house now. My by the time this goes out, if you enjoyed it, mate. But yeah, my whole ballgame collection is boxed up part from five games that are in the dining room that you can see here. Just so you know, I can actually dabble a little bit but yeah, most of it's all boxed up and now my already fancy. So, so we hopefully in a few weeks, we're gonna move I'm just looking forward to kind of resetting the gaming room, which will be the dining room, but just the new setup, how it's gonna work where the gains is going to be, you know, it's exciting. Yeah, I'm just looking forward to that and and just getting everything kind of reset back up and, and getting into the games and stuff and Rob's weirdly peering over my tables. I've got five games out what she got. Probably got more because too many bones is all in that but I can see four up there with that in the

Rob: 1:18:20

567

JP: 1:18:21

Amanda that's just baggies, and eight, eight games.

Dan Apsey: 1:18:28

I've only got eight.

JP: 1:18:30

What he hasn't spotted I've got 20 strong in that box as well. So got 15 games. It's just, you know, the minute the events are required on the gaming group, the people getting back into it from holiday. So I'm not putting any

Tambo: 1:18:47

The Kerleys arent putting up any. I'll put some games up soon.

JP: 1:18:53

We've got a lot going on in it. And it's a bit you know, it's a bit outdated on the old gaming front but I think once again moved ill I

Dan Apsey: 1:19:01

I want to get more up and get more going and obviously with my group it's just I've not done it but busy over Christmas. New business

JP: 1:19:08

You know what it's like Dan, you've pretty similar to me is that you sometimes can over commit and now much yeah, event wise. And then when you get to the to the game night, sometimes you've had a shit day at work, and you're gonna have got to play that game. And sometimes you're just not looking forward to it as much as you were when you put the event in maybe two weeks ago. Yeah. And sometimes you end up just swallowing all your social time. Sometimes you just want to lie on the sofa. Yeah. All right. Maybe Netflix. Yeah. But no, for me, just getting back to a little bit of normality in the new environment. Comment. Nice, nice. Yeah.

Tambo: 1:19:52

Good. What about you Dan?

Dan Apsey: 1:19:53

All right. In a couple of weeks after this episode goes out and people around this table we're gonna play frost punk and I've not played it for ages, so I'm very much looking forward about I'd be on my birthday weekend as well. So

JP: 1:20:04

I genuinely don't know what to expect. i If you played the video game. I know what it's about. The theme so okay. I know kind of what to expect but mechanically I don't.

Dan Apsey: 1:20:14

Have you played This War of Mine? No. Okay, so in that case, you've been by me that you haven't played the video game. Expect stress in a box. Stress in a box Oh, yeah,

Rob: 1:20:23

cuz I thrive while I'm stressed

Dan Apsey: 1:20:25

stressful but it's just it's just clever how it works out and rather than, Oh, I haven't. It's great. Is it So it's you like, so good. It's like if you know the story of Frostpunk its a permafrost in London and the sun is basically died and people are basically leaving civilization to go and find these generators, they eventually find a generator and then restart society. So you have a collection of workers and you've got to try and go out and gather resources. So you've got to go and gather coal and wood and steam cores and build buildings, these buildings and do different actions that open up different things. And you're trying to you know, trying to progress the story on and then eventually if you get there spoiler alert, and massive storm will come he will transfer the storm and that is going to mean that's the kind of it's great, the pieces are lovely as well. I've played it what five or six times now easily my favourite game of all time, and I don't like I'm not a big fan of coal. I'm not a fan. Not a fan of coops. But this is a fully Co Op experience. It really is a glorified solo game you can play it solo, but I think it is better with others. It's just fantastic. I'm really looking to play it it's been a while

Tambo: 1:21:35

yeah, definitely. Rob?

Rob: 1:21:39

I'm well I also for Christmas got Marvel Zombies I got

JP: 1:21:45

beside game. We're playing. Dan's out.

Rob: 1:21:50

When I eventually packed too many bones away then that's fine. But now looking forward to more too many bones. But non gaming related my wife's birthday in a couple of weeks and we're going to watch Strictly Come come dancing.

Dan Apsey: 1:22:07

restrict me the best thing about strictly is the theme tune. that's it.

JP: 1:22:11

No, I agree with you. Yeah,

Rob: 1:22:12

no

Dan Apsey: 1:22:13

banner in it. It's a banger

Rob: 1:22:15

is to Bella, but like, that's the only one of those shows that I can actually watch you know, the voting off and stuff like that. And the sheer quality of female dancers

Dan Apsey: 1:22:25

dancing the pasa doble

JP: 1:22:28

Turnipseed Craig revel Horwood

Rob: 1:22:32

so when my wife said Can you can you take me for my birthday? I was like absolutely do so um, so yeah, we're going to see that you go for the dancers. I'm going for the no go for the high quality How dare you insinuate otherwise it's in Birmingham .

Dan Apsey: 1:22:48

You cant hide under Claudia Winkleman fringe.

Rob: 1:22:51

No, I'll give it a bloody good go though. Yeah, it is

JP: 1:22:53

cheap in the Travelodge?

Dan Apsey: 1:22:54

No everything's premier but the price so so yeah,

Rob: 1:22:57

few games but

JP: 1:23:00

it's a little bit like my my little mix concert I went to the you got forced to go to I literally five. I was standing for my my wife. My wife was taking my daughter many years ago. And she ended up doing a shift or something and she said you'll have to take I'll take an hour to sit for a little mix concert was great. tell you why.

Rob: 1:23:34

Why but yeah, so yeah, very similar to that.

Tambo: 1:23:38
