JP:

Welcome to Whose turn is it anyway, where we've got enough board gaming goodies to fill up Santas sack Nice. Yeah it's Christmas time. So that means it's party time isn't that right guys? Yeah. slugger. What was that? What was that Davey Party poppers. Thanks, mate. So we're here once again for another Christmas. And we did this last year, which was a lot of fun. I think it's probably one of my favourite episodes to do. And we thought why not do it again and invite more people into this very small room we're recording. It's warm. It's very warm. So I'm going to do a quick roll call around the table. It might take about half an hour. So we have got on the episode, Becky. Kerley Hello, Tambo. Hello, Dan.

Dan Apsey:

Ho ho ho,

JP:

thanks, mate. Davey. Hello. He's very far away, down a well. Rob, Hi, and Adrian.

Adrian:

Was that happy enough.

JP:

A bit more. More energy. Hello. 20% more energy.

Kerley:

To be fair, it's more than he usually does.

JP:

So how are we all going? Doing? Yes, we all Christmassy we're all in

Adrian:

all sorts of good. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Did you get lethered? Well, I had a few which is more than I normally do. Yeah. I was. I was happy for the end of the evening,

Davey:

which was on Friday night. Everyone's I know,

Adrian:

it was first work due on a Thursday night.

Kerley:

That's so random. That's bad. Because

Adrian:

there's 950 people there. And I think in any event they could do on like, they can do a Thursday night and get 950 people booked in somewhere.

JP:

Good. I'm just really interested in your Christmas party because I don't get to get one. Going out with the wife, I get to other people's

Dan Apsey:

Christmas parties. SOCKS again, but it's like everyone's having fun around you. I'm gonna do.

Kerley:

Nice. Hello, you've got the substantial naughty boys.

JP:

So let's go on with the quiz. So it's our Quizmas time and we've got 40 questions where we're going to be split into four separate teams. Four of us are quiz captains. And they are myself Kerley, Adrian and Dan, we have come up with today's questions. So the format is is all the quiz masters are going to provide 10 questions each and we're going to partner up with a random team member we don't know. What we know is we just don't know who our team members and we're going to sprinkle in in each round. That will be four rounds. Some let's talk about hex game chat as well. So we can just kind of mix up the game questions for some game in chat. So really, that's just going to work out with the teams on and we'll be right back. We're back we've partnered up so let's introduce the teams so Kerley

Kerley:

myself and my lovely wife have been teamed randomly together she knows all the questions

Becky:

I don't know any of the questions

Kerley:

if anything she's got less chance of answering mine than you guys. But we're gonna go into the name because it's just us two Kerleyklaus as it's a Christmas party and

JP:

Kerleyklaus. Yeah Kerley and Bex, great stuff.

Davey:

You gonna get your claws out with each other as well.

JP:

If you get it wrong.

Kerley:

No, that's if we get it right.

JP:

Like Adrian.

Adrian:

I've been teamed with the wonderful Davey we are Christmas spirit Island. Nice.

JP:

Nice Nice play on words. Okay, Team Three. Coop quiz. You're

Adrian:

You're not very good. Very good at it, Davey.

Rob:

He doesn't like his movements been impeded by others. It's true.

JP:

He's going solo, he's going solo. Anyway, done. So

Dan Apsey:

me and Tambo are together as one, the ultimate team and we don't have any hair

JP:

at all. So anywhere.

Dan Apsey:

I'll get into logistics. Know that we don't have any hair. So we've gone with the baldballs nice, which is our team name, which is very fitting. Like it's good

Kerley:

because it sounds like baubles but it's I see

JP:

a lot of explaining it needs explaining nice and So last and certainly not least is me. And I've got Rob Hello. And we are the too many Boney M's for those Christmas people even though I you know said this earlier.

Becky:

I appreciate it No one knew who Boney M was

Adrian:

Like six sets of eyeballs rolling. Yeah.

JP:

Fair enough. Thanks for sticking with it. So we're gonna go with that. So first round was going to be given to Monsignor Kerley off you go mate

Kerley:

here we are first round going to do a talk about hex first. So I've played this week Terraforming Mars for the first time in ages.

JP:

Oh my God, what's that game? I never heard of that. I

Kerley:

know of replay that for. It's absolutely fantastic. Now I'm not gonna go into it. But no, really, really. I was nearly nearly tempted. But now I really enjoyed it. It's good fun to play classic. And to be honest, I haven't played the new games lately. So although I've just got Dune Uprising, so I'd love to have got that one in first, but you know, I didn't. So we'll go with Terraforming Mars, which I absolutely adore. And yeah, thoroughly enjoyed the playthrough and I won, which is even better. So screw you guys. I'm awesome.

JP:

Merry Christmas.

Becky:

as well. It was a nice quick game actually, wasn't it? It

Kerley:

was it was really good, fun quick game. We got three and a half hours probably for four players pretty good. Really good fun. It was Dan, JP, myself and my lovely wife. Yeah, pretty good fun. I think it's your first time in ages when I played

JP:

for a while. Yeah, now that's a lie. I played at gridcon.

Kerley:

Why are you telling lies to the listeners?

JP:

Before Gridcon it had been a while but I managed to get a prelude card merger which I've never had before. Yeah, and that was just a lot of fun having to

Kerley:

corps I think that was a promo you know.

JP:

I think it was a part of the promo. It was a lot of fun to just play with to corporate. Yeah, well, don't

Kerley:

forget to remember. Oh, God Nice. Yeah, it's the it's the most fun. Really? That's for sure. Yeah,

JP:

it was good. Enjoyed. Okay.

Kerley:

Yeah. So on to the quiz. Let's do it. Let's do it. All right, round one. Round one fighting round one. Alright, so this is gonna be there's gonna be some that you guys won't know and some that you will was deliberately aimed at doing a bit of everyone so Alright, question number one then. With a note to last year, what year was Lordsof Waterdeep released?

JP:

You and your Waterdeep questions.

Kerley:

I know I had to get in a Waterdeep question mate. It's becoming a new tradition. What year was it released? Hey. So question number two then same as last year but hopefully it's going to be slightly different is named six of the current for this year BGG top 10 Please

Tambo:

Should have done some revision

Kerley:

You know I was there for hours going over BGG looking at all the different games

JP:

I suck at this, I sucked last year on this one.

Kerley:

It's a bit of a longer longer one this one to be honest because

JP:

you're gonna get six to get one point. Yeah, wow. Oh, this is tough on it. Yeah. But you know

Kerley:

I've also a lot of them are still current from last year so you know you can

JP:

see I'm in the hot seat Yeah, many ways the baldballs have given up

Tambo:

The bald balls have dropped .

JP:

Touche, That's staying in

Kerley:

But right, and this is the only one that's like It's Question number three is a throwback to Daveys special round last year. Waiting.

JP:

What's my weight? Bonus round.

Kerley:

Two kilogrammes. Now, so I'm Eclipse second Dawn of the galaxy. What is the weight on BGG? For complexity, we allow within point two. Oh,

JP:

that's fair. That's fair.

Kerley:

That's what I thought I took some time to think about that. There was half a point it would be like, I didn't want to be too generous. Eclipse second Dawn

Tambo:

or so between because I didn't really go

Kerley:

between one and five. Okay, but you've got

JP:

points 1.0 to five.

Kerley:

I think T might be in trouble. Because it could be good. Good.

JP:

You having fun T

Kerley:

number four. It's only very basic maths but we've got a little bit of maths on this one. So it's a Triple Threat question a triple threat. So I want you to add together please. Max Players in Caverna Yeah. Added to how many starting colonies you would have in a Terraforming Mars for a five player sort of starting colonies. How many starting colonies would you have in Terraforming Mars? Five player

JP:

does that is that the Sum?

Kerley:

Those two the first two oh you got another one? Yeah, yeah. And the number of adventure row cards in Clank catacombs I say that one because I always get it wrong so the what? The number of adventure row cards in Clank category or the row yes Question number five number five in Arc Nova what does the ability full throated do? Escuse me, sin bin, be quiet in Ark Nova what does the ability full throated?

JP:

He never played good is this is this an expansion? Base

Kerley:

definitely I'm actually put this in there because Adrian will

JP:

never cannot Can I get one of the cards at the game and then I will

Kerley:

I will be caught cheating.

JP:

Fair enough.

Kerley:

All right, so we're gonna split my questions into two different parts. So we're going to do five and then Becky Have you been playing lately?

Becky:

I played my first game of tapestry the other day you kindly taught it to make Kerley so thank you for that really enjoyed it was really good. And then JP came around randomly last night and we played tapestry. And I won!

JP:

You didn't just win, you bossd it?

Becky:

Well, I didn't you know I didn't do a victory lap on the table. I was very reserved, but it was a really good game and I really enjoyed that kind of Adrian would describe it as point salad. You can kind of go down lots of different routes you can kind of not focus on one thing too much. I really enjoyed it. Really good. Nice little models as well.

Adrian:

Can I just say I would describe it as shit

Kerley:

he's the grinch

Becky:

Adrian didn't like a game, well none of us saw that coming. I really liked it. What didn't you like about it?

Adrian:

Tapestry? It's just random bollocks. Like all the other ones that you keep trying to push on me as Civ of games.

Dan Apsey:

Well, I mean I love it. I love it.

Kerley:

Well, I think it's an excellent game. It doesn't

Becky:

fit very well back into the box with all of the all of the bits of paper pamphlets and things which was a bit annoying, but that's fine. Get rid of it. I really enjoyed it. Really liked it. I would recommend it. I think I don't know why I've been put off playing it. I think it was the box art again. Yeah, quite inoffensive.

JP:

Just didn't fancy it a bit yellow or green. Yeah.

Becky:

Didn't fancy it.

Kerley:

You're not one for civilization games usually, like area control. And it kind of looks like it will be that it just doesn't

JP:

give you a field the same field of a Civ game.

Dan Apsey:

That doesn't play like a Civ game. Yeah,

Becky:

that's why I liked it. So yeah, I would strongly recommend that one. And yeah.

JP:

For me, I've not played for a while and I'm actually sold you my copy. Yes. And then so we played a lot of touched on BGA. And yes, it's been really good fun to I agree with that. I'd

Kerley:

like to play a lot of tapestry on BGA. But someone take the bloody turn.

JP:

That's true. Take your turn. I've

Dan Apsey:

been pretty good lately, apart from today. Today's been a bit rubbish with turns. But yes, it's good on BGA. Yeah, I like it. I wish they brought in some of the expansions in me too. I really do wish because I think it means it was quite interesting that backs you'd call it point salad. I think it's either point salad or point drought. It's one or the other. And if the cards and the Civ don't match up to the way you need to

Kerley:

drag when your name is done absolutely pretty

Dan Apsey:

much the next bit but again, we've learned that one of the cards I had I think was feudalism that said, get three points for every single landmark you have or get a resource.

JP:

But now yeah, we played with the was it what's the latest expansion? Futures and fantasies? Yeah, that was awesome. Those new sets out Yeah, I

Becky:

I can't really compare it. So I played the base version the very first time we played it a few days ago. And then we played with all the other add ons so I don't I can't say what I'd what because I have no idea. You just had it all thrown in. I think it's easier to do.

Kerley:

It's more about variation. The expansions, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, I played with the were folk which was quite good, fun. Nice.

JP:

You have to pay for other recyclers. So I was just spamming tech. Yeah. Didn't work last.

Tambo:

If you go back to the quiz,

Kerley:

back to the quiz, let's do it. Right round one. Question number six. Yep. Now this is going to be painful for any of you haven't played it. So I want five of the six starting characters in Gloomhaven, please. Really, all of these faces people are making I am well happy. This is what made me

Rob:

even tell you that. Well, I can't tell you.

Kerley:

You've got to tell me what you know. Maybe I won't say I'm happy with the with the name of the character not the race because it does say as what both on the on the card fee for five out of the six I'm happy with me yeah

JP:

now that he's confident he's

Kerley:

saying okay

JP:

you said Frosthaven I would have punched you? No one ever

Kerley:

Right moving on them. Question number seven I want six would neither. of the eight factions in War of the Ring Some of these I will say guys this Lord of the Rings knowledge a lot of them are even if you haven't even if you haven't played more of the ring, you can start off again this one.

Adrian:

If I get close names is that cool? Con?

Kerley:

Yeah, well, I'll make no judgement. But we've got free people of Middle Earth has one one faction the other goodies and then you've got the minions of sorry, the shadow armies as the other one. That's five free Peoples of Middle Earth. And there's three shadow armies so that should give you a bit of a clue.

JP:

Yeah, brilliant.

Kerley:

Let's see JP came into thw quiz thinking he's gonna know all of these. And he's always disappointed that there's somebody

Rob:

thinking I wasn't gonna know anything and I'm not disappointed.

Kerley:

You're gonna enjoy this one either. I'm

JP:

afraid name 15 of the 17.

Kerley:

Similar. I would like for you to name all 7 , so hard to get a point animal types in Ark Nova.

JP:

All seven animal types, including or excluding the expansion again, Adrian hasn't played so good. Oh, good. Good

Kerley:

question on the base game, please. Oh,

Adrian:

I thought I actually knew one of the expansion ones because you mentioned it the other day.

Becky:

Right? If I played it I'm gonna be really upset with myself.

Kerley:

Oh, I go on. I'll take six of the seven. I think that's fair. Six or seven.

JP:

Well negotiated. Well negotiated people.

Kerley:

Yeah, I am making you work quite hard for these questions. Right. So name the to civilization, the 2010 version, expansions. And they start with F and F and W and W. Say that again? Civilization 2010 version? Because there are a few. There's two expansions for that. And I want the names of them, please. Yeah, one of them begins with f and f. So it's two words. F and F. And the other one is two words W W. Everyone ready? Yeah. Yeah, baby. So question number 10. In Gugong, what is the top and bottom gift number one and number nine, the actual gift? Oh, I hate you. You're welcome. Now the easiest ones to remember, which is why I said I will say for the number nine, there wasn't an actual title. So I'll just go with anything that has kind of got the main part of it in there is fine.

JP:

No, what is nine What is nine

Becky:

I need to get one more animal type.

Kerley:

And still working on it?

JP:

Too with all the answers at the end, Becky so you have the time.

Kerley:

That's my 10 questions. Ready for the answers Wait a

Becky:

No wait a mnute

JP:

You alright Bec?.

Becky:

When you start to think oh, you've got it five yep? Crack on everyone

Kerley:

ready? As ready as we will be. What year was Lords of Waterdeep released? It was 2012 Yeah, you have 14 Adrian

Adrian:

For the longest time, and it was like I don't think it is because I think the expansion came out 2014 or 2015.

Becky:

I put 2013

Kerley:

Very close dear

Adrian:

Yeah, it's my first thought and that's what I'm sure the

JP:

weeks then. Yeah. Rapid wings.

Kerley:

So names six of the BGG top 10. So in any order I'm gonna read them out now. Brass Birmingham. Yeah. Pandemic Legacy. Yeah. Gloomhaven. Yeah. Ark Nova Yeah. Twilight Imperium. Terraforming Mars Yeah, Dune Imperium, Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion, War of the Ring and Star Wars rebellion.

Dan Apsey:

Ballsed that up.

Adrian:

Alright, seven and got six of them I wrote gaia project which I think is a number 11 For sure. Six,

Kerley:

six,

JP:

habit.

Adrian:

I got the first four in order

Kerley:

Eclipse second dawn for the galaxy. Now I'm gonna round this up because it's A point blah blah blah blah yes 3.7

Dan Apsey:

Yeah didn't

Adrian:

Didn't even need the point 2. I originally put 3.9 and give us even

Kerley:

more right so here's the mathematics one. Max Players in Caverna plus starting colonies for five player number of adventure rows in catacombs 20. Max players in Caverna is 7, colonies for a five player is seven and number of adventure row is six, six

JP:

I'm not doing very well

Davey:

866 is seven because I have the considering

Adrian:

I've not played two of those games and I've only played one of those games once I seen a bloody good guess on your phone. No, I didn't. I did not turn on my phone yet and I decided to run it down because I thought I'd gone too high on Caverna. I couldn't decide if it's five or six. You

Kerley:

the next one full throated.

Tambo:

I put gain a mince pie

Becky:

Is it hire extra worker is

Adrian:

would you like to read out my answer JP Yeah,

JP:

you can make the ooo ahhhh noise really loud? Thanks. We're gonna fall out we are

Kerley:

Hire an extra Association worker was the correct answer. So then it was Gloomhaven characters, I believe. Yeah, so we've got the brute. The scoundrel The tinkerer? Yeah the spell Weaver the cragheart and the mindtheif

Becky:

Not Mr. Tickle Mr. Bump, Little Miss naughty, Henry the 8th and Hitler

Adrian:

I put Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Kerley:

well I want to know what the characters special ability for

JP:

a gentle hug think is really close to

Adrian:

I give myself a tick for it.

Kerley:

Right The next one I believe was the factions in War of the ring. So you will know a lot of the so dwarves elves gondor Rohan and the one on the good guys you probably didn't get was North

Adrian:

the north I put men off the and then crossed out for elves to be on it. I already thought that I would have accepted the North Can I have ministereth instead of Gondor

Kerley:

I'll put that down to a judgement call. I can send the shadow armies our Isengard, Sauron, southron and Easterlings I will accept either of those. So

Adrian:

I put Mordor south the ones with the monarchs

Kerley:

I will accept both.

JP:

I put the goblins flat. Mordor is okay goblins.

Kerley:

It's not so much okay,

Becky:

well I've only got four then. So that didn't work because I also wrote fellowship hobbits and Nasgul just hoping for

Kerley:

all four of those will be a gimme so you know you're only looking for a couple more

JP:

It's going bad

Kerley:

So you don't know that name all the seven animal types. Yeah, so we've got birds Yeah, predators. Herbivores lizards didn't get them because reptiles reptiles. Reptiles is what you've got. Bears yeah petting zoo and primates. Control control I need it. Then we've got named the two civilization expansions the one side with F F was anyone know?

JP:

Fame and fortune

Kerley:

Fame and fortune is correct

Adrian:

not Friedman freeze

Kerley:

and the WW anyone know

Becky:

wisdom and warfare? That's not gonna get any point because I didn't have to first one. Oh

JP:

Sorry Tambo, its a mean quiz.

Tambo:

God's sake

Kerley:

in Gugong, what is the top and bottom gift and it was a bowl of fruit and golden statue or idol. It doesn't seem to say but I've got cows. I've been happy with golden that's what I was gonna say. I'm happy with golden

Davey:

you just said cat.

JP:

I meant the one that kind of waved. Now

Kerley:

I think we'll put that one down as wrong, I think because it's just blatantly wrong. Are you happy with David

Becky:

I got fan, not bowl of fruit. So

JP:

depression is not good for fun.

Kerley:

But no one else will know about it. No one else will ever. I

Becky:

got three out of 10 I got quite close to some of them

Adrian:

Got 4 out of 10

Kerley:

I may have set these a little bit high, apparently. Yeah,

JP:

so good. There we go, that's round one done.

Adrian:

And now we're on to round two recently, and we can play loads of party games and quit games and stuff. And most of them were really good. So the game I really wanted to show people was called secret identity. So if people haven't seen secret identity, it's a it's a party game playing four rounds, and you get like 10 cards that have four images on them. So they're double sided with two images on each. And you're gonna use up to three of those cards, and put in either yes side or the no side, try and indicate which character you are to someone on the board. So on the board, there's different loads of characters. And you're trying to put these just these pictures as yes and no, to try and indicate which character you are the sort of kicker is that you start with these 10 cards and you never get any more. So in the first round, you have choice of loads of different images. And towards the end, you'll have like three or four cards left, and you're trying to suggest how someone might know Marilyn Monroe when you've got a hammer, a ladder, cobweb, light bulb, and a skull, and you're like, yeah, that's gonna work, isn't it? And you're just trying to work out how to show someone that and it's just really quick, really fun. You can kind of see people's workings and you there's quite often enough similar names down that there's like a bit of confusion and all that lot, but it went really well really enjoyed playing it. Yeah, good, fun party game. If you're looking for something for Christmas, New Year's plays in about 45 minutes plays up to eight people, not team games, which a lot of people get put off by team Games at Christmas. So yeah, my recommendation for Christmas slash New Year's party game, which I thought would be quite relevant to this episode. Happy dice. Yes. There we go. Right on to our first round of five questions. So as we all know, in the 12 days of Christmas, there are five gold rings, however, who publishes three ring circus?

Kerley:

I've never even heard of it easy.

Davey:

Easy.

Rob:

Every answer is easy if you know the game

Adrian:

JPs desperate

Rob:

Sorry mate I don't know. I'm sorry.

Kerley:

I've never heard of it. So.

Adrian:

On to question two Christmas you might leave mince pies or biscuits out for Santa to stuffing his face hole. If you get a crokinole biscuit in the centre hole, how many points is it worth?

Kerley:

I'm gonna shove a biscuit and you're cakehole.

Adrian:

Been doing that most of the day that made this

Davey:

it's one or the other and I can't remember which one.

Rob:

I love the way that you're covering your answers like like it's a proper school test.

Kerley:

And he freely admits that he's not sure of his own answers

Adrian:

on to Question three. At this time of year the lyrics Last Christmas I gave you my heart might strike fear into many hearts. Which of these games uses a heart symbol to represent health? Marvel United kapow Marvel champions or Harry Potter Hogwarts battle

Kerley:

giving multiple choice I don't think brutal

Rob:

war games again please.

Adrian:

It was Marvel United kapow Marvel champions or Harry Potter Hogwarts battle.

Davey:

Rob just had

Kerley:

number games

Dan Apsey:

I was waiting for The Witcher I lost all that money on buying the bastard. God damn it. I love my game

Kerley:

Why has he turned into a Somerset farmer?

Dan Apsey:

Why not? Why not?

Adrian:

Question four in many parts of the world sending Christmas cards is a tradition. Often it can feel like you receive too many Christmas cards. However, which of these games in their base retail form has the most cards Terraforming Mars wingspan earth or arK Nova

Davey:

base form base

Adrian:

retail no expansions just what you get in the base game.

Dan Apsey:

What about the Kickstarters easy

Davey:

think I know think is that

Adrian:

fun thinking these are

Kerley:

second guessing myself on this one.

Rob:

I would say you're wrong. Wrong Wrong Wrong Wrong. Wrong Wrong Wrong. You're wrong

Kerley:

Out of all the people in this room to be singing that at me Rob.

Rob:

I know I'm wrong.

Adrian:

Question number five. In the 12 days of Christmas there are six different types of animal seven if you include whatever animal the maids a milking how many difference because he chuckled, because I was thinking it'd be a dirty thing to say for the crew straight.

Dan Apsey:

Don't laugh for all animals. Birds,

Adrian:

how many different types of animals are there in castles of Burgundy Special Edition?

Kerley:

I haven't played that.

Adrian:

Unlucky.

Kerley:

You can be filthlooks but there was

Davey:

no names and there was one name how many how many you said? Yes.

Adrian:

How many different types of animals are there in castles of Burgundy Special Edition,

Kerley:

Special Edition a 36,400. And then you've done a multiple choice on this one. Question

JP:

Okay, Rob, you've got this

Adrian:

right, and that's our first five I'm gonna hand over to Davey to talk about his let's talk about hex Yeah,

Davey:

cool. So I've recently played Monster Hunter the board game played ice born on there because you can throw in other monsters and kind of hunt ones in between you have like a nice little schematic at the end where you get certain bits and build your weapons up before you go in you have to hunt the monster and it has kind of like a choose your own adventure where you go through and get different parts and you can either if you find the monster quickly then you take out some abilities and put some into the deck but if you take your time a bit sometimes it means a monsters kind of full form and it's a bit harder fight it's evolved into a highly evolved yeah oh it's just eaten so it's you know it's full well fed. Yeah, exactly. So the initial and then once you found the monster after doing fight has a quite a cool like a stamina bar where you play cards and so your stamina bar, you can only pay a certain amount depending on what's happening with the monster deck. And every at the end of every round you can refresh one back in the end got sharp and mechanically play Monster Hunter you know, you have to sharpen your weapon sharp,

Rob:

even the hunting horn, which

Davey:

is really even the hunting horn ya know, and the hammer.

Rob:

That's Chris P's biggest, biggest regret that you had to sharpen his hammer you get really angry about it as well. But

Davey:

that's pretty much to refresh your damage there. I've got a damaged deck you kind of deal out of when you like deal attacks, you play one into your rope, and then it will say like draw to act like cards. Some of them have like end abilities where you have to play at the end of your stamina thing combos where you've had to have like two cards before and you've got a little rolling things that you can roll off each other as well. Yes, it's not. It's not the most complicated of black boss battlers. But it is fun. We enjoyed it. So I'm so jealous. Yeah.

Rob:

I really, I was gonna

Davey:

I was gonna buy miniatures like, and it pulls out the box and there's like, you've got a Rafi and just like this massive dragon on the table.

Adrian:

See, I can't wait for primal to turn up. Yeah, I know. We both backed it and yeah, I felt like decades ago at this point. It's exactly the same big monster in a boat like

Davey:

that. But I think it's a little bit it's got a little bit more of a complex card we can switch for heavy gamers is it all heavier gamers is a little bit better. But then Monster Hunter still kind of gets that edge go and

Adrian:

so it's based on an IP you might get some new people yeah and they want to get in a sort of nice level.

Davey:

Yep. So yeah, just impossible to get hold of I think with the Monster Hunter game key

Rob:

question as well. And it says a lot about you as an individual. What did you weapon What did

Davey:

so they didn't have the hammer. I'm always a hammer, bro. Always insect glaive Yeah, so the insect glaive I played to start with because that was my other other weapon. But the mechanic I didn't enjoy as much so I went onto heavy bowgun. Heavy bowgun was had like a deviation deck that you have to pull out and then in the third kind of side of the monster, sometimes you can miss but they're like obviously the better weapons that you have the stronger ones which do more damage or the better damage deck, but they have more misses and your deviation and stuff like that. So it's like cameras

Adrian:

and it takes forever to charge up in the actual video game. Yeah, but there's loads of damage and get concussion and you've

Davey:

got the Wyvern snipe which is like a one card thing where you can play this card as long as no other cards are played. It basically does a massive damage and shot and blows up part of the armour etc. Sounds

Kerley:

cool. Yeah, it's good fun.

Adrian:

I really want to play the computer game now.

Davey:

Yeah. Oh, monster hunt. Wild Wild.

Adrian:

Yeah. Is that new

Davey:

is that the new ones that was announced the Game Awards and I didn't watch the game was it was good. Yeah, there we go. So.

Adrian:

So on to our next five questions. The festive period is not just about Christmas. There are plenty of other holidays including Hanukkah, which includes a dreidel that was made out of clay Which one of these games does not include a clay component? Glass road? Tinners Trail. Brass Birmingham deluxe edition or Gollum? Tinners trail, brass Birmingham deluxe edition or Gollum

Rob:

what was the tinners trail? So what is

Davey:

it What's it about? Does it have flight

Kerley:

Who thought of these rubbish questions, well, Oh, thanks me.

Adrian:

Number seven. In the 12 days of Christmas there are 10 lords a leaping if you include the expansion how many Lords of Waterdeep are there?

Rob:

Oh, Jesus.

Kerley:

Oh, Jesus Christ, I've got Chance there, there's a lot, allowing any flexibility?

Adrian:

No

JP:

Touche.

Kerley:

You're a horrible individual. So

Davey:

you mean so with expansions? Yeah. How many versions? Or how many?

Adrian:

How many loads of or literal characters in

Kerley:

the Mortal Kombat that

Rob:

many know,

Adrian:

once you get the characters given at the start of the game, how many different ones are there?

Kerley:

Are we not going to have a guess?

Davey:

But it's, it's I mean, this is I

Adrian:

did start I did start nice and I'm getting worse.

Dan Apsey:

mastermind last way

Kerley:

to ask questions. Well, you're

Adrian:

not gonna like these last three. Question Eight. Many people will know Santa as St. Nicholas or jolly old St. Nick. How many games in the BGG top 100 have a BGG credited designer called Nick Nicky Nicola or Nicolas at the top one. So basically

Kerley:

pick a number out of the year. Thanks, right.

Davey:

Have you got any leeway? No, no. Went to

Dan Apsey:

Nicholas Nickleby.

Rob:

I think it could be within 20

Kerley:

Well, you've got one in 100 chance. That's what you're saying is 100 that is not asking for any knowledge I made. I made

Adrian:

these very nice. And then I listened to last year's podcast episode and you were all very mean to each other. So I thought, well, I've got to join in

Davey:

I wasn't until they were mean and then the bonus round turn into chaos after that. Everyone else's fault.

Kerley:

adjudicator another question.

Adrian:

Question Nine here in southwest of England, we get very little snow at Christmas. Name one of the three board games in the BGG top 1000 with snow in the title. Just one of them one of the three. So you need

Davey:

snow way home. You know what? I'm just gonna write something down because I bet 1000 gas can be part of a word.

Adrian:

And finally, question 10 In some cultures if you're naughty Santa might put coal in your shoes or Christmas stocking if Santa was to buy all the coal cubes from the market that starts on the board in brass Birmingham. How much would he would it cost him? How

Davey:

much would it fucking cost them? Yeah, how many cubes

Dan Apsey:

shit out 3 million.

Adrian:

If Santa was to buy all the coal cubes from the market that starts on the board it starts on a more or less important It starts on the board in brass Birmingham. How many? How much would he pay

Kerley:

$84,000

Adrian:

I think Dan's got a chance to get in this plays it enough he's doing some real heavy math right now.

Rob:

I can literally hear his brain work

Adrian:

I'll allow within one cool

Kerley:

thanks Adrian.

Davey:

You're so generous is easier than the other fucking ones.

Kerley:

You did complain about my question sir.

Adrian:

So going back to number one who publishes three ring circus. It is Devir.

Kerley:

Not Fantasy Flight?

Adrian:

No . Question Mark Not question mark.

Davey:

20

Adrian:

I would have also accepted cosmos as they are sort of listed publisher just

Rob:

at the end. If

Adrian:

If you get a crokinole biscuit in the centre hole how many points is it worth? 20 Indeed Absolutely.

Dan Apsey:

I did not know this shame on you Apsey didn't know it.

Adrian:

Which of these games uses a heart symbol to represent health marvel United, kapow, marvel champions or Harry Potter Hogwarts battle

Davey:

Harry Potter.

Adrian:

It is indeed. Kapow. Now it's up to I know it wasn't asked. If anyone cares champions doesn't actually use a symbol and mavel United uses a little a little heartbeat

Kerley:

This was back in the good old Adrian question days where there was multipe choise

Adrian:

which of these has more cards in the base retail version Terraforming Mars wingspan earth or arK Nova. You're all wrong it's Earth with 360

Davey:

I

Dan Apsey:

find that surprising.

Adrian:

Ark Nova come over was second with 255, Then TM with 233 and finally wingspan had 212 cards and it

Rob:

dropped out because I thought Terraforming Mars but then you said base and it was like I've only ever played his copy

Davey:

shop members from wrong this next one.

Rob:

How many nights when I answer your when you read the question, Can I answer it? Yeah,

Adrian:

how many different types of animals are there in castles of Burgundy Special Edition? Are those a

Rob:

trick question because it's game by Castle Swiper zero No.

Davey:

Three nope, four

Adrian:

no five Yeah. So you have pigs goats, sheep cows and in these sort of additional expansion wild geese

Rob:

or the McDonald's classic yeah

Kerley:

well geese

Adrian:

which of these does not include a clay component glass road, tinners trail, brass Birmingham deluxe edition, or Gollum. Tinners Trail

Davey:

Tinners Trail so you've got the clay you've got the pine

Dan Apsey:

50 smaller clay though is is plastic

Davey:

building when it's plastic that makes clay so

Kerley:

what was he was not tennis

Davey:

because I didn't think oh well there is a clay

Kerley:

between tennis travelled glass road I

Rob:

knew I've never played any of those games.

Adrian:

So glass road has a little counter you move around the wheel. Tinners trail doesn't, brass Birmingham deluxe edition comes with iron clays and Gollum has actual clay resource little components

Dan Apsey:

to go well to go on.

Adrian:

Question seven if you include the expansion, how many Lords of Waterdeep are there?

Davey:

is random stab in the dark 22, 24 This is 1711

Adrian:

17. There are 11 in the base game and six in the expansion

Davey:

just felt right 28 And why?

Adrian:

How many games in the BGG top 100 have a BGG credited designer called Nick Nicky Nicola or Nicolas

Kerley:

38 22 38

Adrian:

2

Rob:

determine we're not going to have points nothing is going

Adrian:

to be one and I took it because everyone was so wildly off so yes anyone want to name the yes everyone anyone want to name the two designers

Davey:

Nicolau So who did

Adrian:

Mansions of Madness so that you all like mansions of madness so much Nikki Valens and the other one which I didn't think you'd get is Nick Little who did Aeons End. Go on then name a single board game in the top 100 with snow in the title. Snowdonia Yeah,

Rob:

yes. Snowpiercer

Adrian:

no snow fun. No.

Davey:

1000 games. Yeah, so

Adrian:

you've got a few acres of snow Snowdonia or snow tails? Yeah. What?

Davey:

1000 games? Yeah, no, but there is a snow fun. I bet you know.

Adrian:

One, there is one at about 1015 or something.

Rob:

Probably more, but there's a lot more frost in the title. Yeah, there's

Adrian:

probably a few. There's quite a few with snow. Like in the tagline and stuff that happened not actually in the title itself. Right. Finally, if someone was to buy all the coal cubes from the market starts on the board and brass birmingham how much would he pay?

Dan Apsey:

I think I've written 64 But I think it's too many 4450 something 36

Adrian:

55, two sevens, two sixes, two fives two fours two threes. Two twos and a one. What if we're a little bit out by 1 million? Yeah, yeah, no. Okay.

Davey:

Oh, just asking you if we're gonna ask you don't get worked out. Look, I've got the exact right I did my maths wrong.

Adrian:

Because you did you did tonight?

Rob:

Does he get a point for his work? No.

Kerley:

Kings to be honest for those bullshit questions. I'm happy before I turn people off that reminder.

Rob:

Beautifully thought well put together Bucha terrible terrible. I

Kerley:

like the puns more after say Yeah, very good.

Adrian:

This started off easy and then I just made them impossible.

Davey:

I didn't really well for the first half and the second half. Yeah,

Adrian:

because the second half was after Yeah, it was first off was easy.

Dan Apsey:

Oh, it's time for round three with me. How's it going everybody? How we doing so far? Not great.

Davey:

How's bowling ball boys?

Dan Apsey:

We're not doing great are we T? No, no, no, it's no this is very, very, very bare. Yeah, on the ball balls. It's a cold. Cold now just really small.

Davey:

I think it was smooth sailing, if

Dan Apsey:

you would imagine. Yeah, sadly, it's not. No, it's very long. So what have I been playing over the last X amount of time, I've not been playing a lot, unfortunately, December for me, it's a really, really, really busy month. So, for me, I've been trying to cram in as much Board Game Arena as I physically can. So that is games of Anachrony, tapestry. yahtzee, even anything I can get my little fingers on while I'm travelling around as it's been a very, very busy, busy month. So for me, it's BGA all the way. And it's a great tool, isn't it? You know, if you can't gain if you can't get around the table, then BGA will definitely scratch the itch. And it has been for me,

Becky:

I like it. I think if I could only play games I already know though I don't think I'd like to learn.

Dan Apsey:

Yes, same. I've tried learning a few on BGA. And luckily I've played it like real times. I've had someone teach it along with me over discord. But I think if I was playing kind of turn base over a course of a few days, and I tried to get my head around it, I'd struggle. But I think the user interface for the website is really, really friendly. But even if you know the game, sometimes it takes one game, maybe two games just to get the gist of it. I found a couple of times where I've played the game, and I've completely messed up a term because oh, that's how it works.

JP:

It's just it's just like the UI, isn't it of where's that set of icons? And then are there over there or not? Where I normally would see them on the board and mix the board positions are things

Davey:

along? Yeah. Oh, no, it was very condensed. Yeah, a lot of information. scorings

Dan Apsey:

right over is very different. They have to make it so the score is up to 100. And beyond 100, you get 200 triggers end game. But if you start flipping minus 15 is at minus 14. Which is odd, but I understand why they've done it. I mean, it makes sense. And we don't want to keep keep checking back on the board to find out when your two pieces intersect. So it makes sense, but games like an acronym, which is one of my big favourites. I love playing on that or that on there. And tapestry. As you mentioned earlier, Beck's is really good on that. And I think they are doing other things like Twilight Imperium on there as well. So when I heard did hear that actually that will be. That'd be pretty epic to play the space game on BGA Wow. Yeah, it would last a year. It would last a very, very long time. But I'd be interested in to give it a go. Should we go on the quiz? Let's do it. So my round is called it has a theme. It's called worker placement.

JP:

What's that about?

Dan Apsey:

It's about worker placement, Jayples, how it works 10 questions and in each question, I will be because I'm a thespian I'll be acting out a person's day on the job of a board game. And it is your task to find out what that board game is. Okay, so there'll be 10 of them. I will not repeat any of it. So you have to catch it on the first go.

JP:

We know you're acting out Yeah. Are you going to be talking or are you going to be miming?

Dan Apsey:

I will be talking to go for so for the listeners. Yes.

Rob:

I'll be talking you go for a listen very carefully.

Dan Apsey:

Says ons advance I said only once. accents that I might or might not put on? Maybe a clue. Maybe a red herring. Okay. So are you ready? Let's do it. Here we go. Question number one. Today was a tough day. The weather's been horrendous this year in Dow which means this year's yield has been terrible. Good job. We had our Phonologists on hand so that it wasn't a complete waste for this year's fair. I did hear that. Karolina does enjoy a tipple from our region though. Question number two. You would not believe the chaos on the road today. I mean, I'm stood here, farmers not budged all day at the crossroads. One of the roads leads to nowhere to Nowhere. Nowhere he wished he'd gotten finished that cloister one more square blocks to do it. Then we'll get on our knees and pray on faces I'm not repeating that.

Davey:

I can name

JP:

Theyre all boardgame names, board game names.

Davey:

Brain

Dan Apsey:

pull the name question number three. Smashed this match so many tiles work today. Don't worry. I'm gonna get real early and be first at the factory tomorrow morning. I really do need some of those blue ones. This is the quietest everyone is being between rounds.

JP:

Yeah. I'm just worried about the peaks on the mic mate, you might get that.

Dan Apsey:

Clipping, clipping or throw question number four. They love Joey. I've worked for you for two years. I'm not calling a CEO. Listen, I'm happy to be at the beach for a day or two. But I'd much rather be flipping out there. You know, now you're gonna lower your prices or not because if you don't, Betty has already told me she couldn't get her sweet lemonade from somewhere else you hear? And if you don't get that one silly question. Question number five. Living in Dudly has its ups and downs. My callused hands show how tough it's been in the Ironworks. But now with a new rail link in Birmingham, hauling the damn stuff that way will make life much easier now that there's no canals. So T, let's talk about hex.

Tambo:

Not too much May I just quickly say I've played the new X Men on Marvel champions nice the new evolution campaign. So I play cables really good fun, a bit different, you can now get the side schemes that you put into play that handy so they're helpful. So if you clear the threat off them, you get a plus one four plus one attack on these things. Makes it a little bit more fun. And I've just also got that pool just right. Which brings us nice already. Yeah, brings the pool aspect of the pool aspect. Yeah. Which seems like really aren't paid yet. Which is unfortunate. But um, it looks really good fun. Yeah, because last everything's like again the slides can be put in you get all the negative symbol ones you get, you know, an extra counter card A plus attack and all this but you will get to draw two cards extra for the whole game. If you keep that side scheming style or Yeah, that's just one of the tops of the cards for him but they look really good fun

Dan Apsey:

bits to play the banks. It's not it's not something that's been on my radar but I probably should give it a go because it does look quite nice and

Rob:

stay on that rabbit hole. Yeah, don't start once you go down in pinky in mate you're sucked in, play somebody else's copy.

Dan Apsey:

Yeah, yes. Nice. Nice. Yeah, so

Tambo:

that's, I just mentioned that if

JP:

you played any of the X Men Yeah, I

Tambo:

played lots of them. Yeah, I've played clauses my favourite He's awesome. He comes in toughening tougher and tougher twi gets double tough. Yeah, he's just not Sybil tough. Yeah. A

Dan Apsey:

whole different level above tough Yeah.

Tambo:

I've got all the man paid for he was cool. He was up all the time. Yeah, so I look forward to that.

Dan Apsey:

Nice nice sorry. Yeah, get back to the questions. Question number six That evil lord Vesh will not win I've managed to save not one not two but three or shacks but while I while I wait am I catch a few rats while they're here? They do help the seasickness you know? Question number seven. I don't feel so good. And they said I can catch my breath in the cabins like a burning sensation in my stomach and I'm the wriggling I need help. I need some help. I must get to the surgery now. Giggling girl

Davey:

wrinkling inside

JP:

something's burning.

Dan Apsey:

Question number eight. Oh, I question number eight. Over the next four and a half years I've successfully managed to keep our flax farm going strong. Not like that neighbour Nigel over there. I mean, if you didn't focus so much on drying out the peat bogs and more on his fleets of vehicles into town. He'd likely be more successful than me. I'm lucky but he's the only one around though and it's possible to get any other competition coming around this way.

Davey:

scallywag is one of them. Which one? I don't I'm looking

Dan Apsey:

forward to your answers. Question number nine I thought this was gonna be fine. The book said one more ingredient just one I don't know if it's gonna be a cherry bomb in there next.

JP:

You really putting in 100% I

Dan Apsey:

don't do things by halves Jayples, you should know this by now! Question number 10 Hey, Simon. Come on. Look at this. It's beautiful. Wow. What a view. We finally made it. The messa verde. Pass me the camera. si I'm gonna take a bunch of photos to capture the moment. It's definitely been the year of heights. That one's the sixth one now. Scene

JP:

silence afterwards. Wow. Wow.

Dan Apsey:

I don't know. I don't get it. Oh, I'm

Kerley:

just gonna pull that. Yeah. I thought the

Davey:

games Oh, no, no,

Dan Apsey:

it's just work. Again, yeah, I

JP:

didn't even make that connection. So that's

Dan Apsey:

it From my no yeah okay question number one today was a tough day the weather has been horrendous down. Vinhos. Vinhos is correct, type of weather machines, correct? Yes. It's a tough day because that weather tile was a pain in the ass. Yeah been there. It

Adrian:

was the fair. Yes. Hit me off.

Dan Apsey:

I was like not much culture. No, the other one. That's why I put that as mentioned Karolina, I did which is Si Si Si Yes, the wine fair.

Davey:

But this one's actually this

Dan Apsey:

Vinhos. Question two you wouldn't believe the Council on the road today? Excellent. I

Davey:

did say Hamlet, but No,

Dan Apsey:

you'd be wrong.

JP:

Ora et labora?

Dan Apsey:

Ora et laboral No, you be wrong.

Davey:

Red Cathedral?

Dan Apsey:

Red cathedral. You'd been wrong. What else? Actually, you were thinking much more more specific. Broader Carcassone. road to nowhere one more block in an eighth one more than ninth for the cloister to score. Question three,

Davey:

building the cathedral literally up I see

Dan Apsey:

no question three smashed, I smashed so many titles and work today at Azul is the right, Azul. Question number for. Sorry, Joey's been working there for two years but he won't call his boss the CEO. What does he work? He works at Food Chain magnate he does. Jayples's favourite.

JP:

I love it for SoLoMo

Kerley:

I wanna do Dans questions, bloody Adrian

Becky:

Well, you got more of Adrians than I got, so it's probably still gonna work out

Dan Apsey:

five. Living in Dudley,

Davey:

brass Birmingham

Dan Apsey:

brass Birmingham question number six come on this one's easy evil Lord Vesh will not win

Davey:

Lords of waterdeep

JP:

I put Isle of Cats

Dan Apsey:

Isle of cats is correct. It's actually yes it is. Lord Vash is the evil villain in Isle of Cats.

JP:

It was the thing that got played it it was on the ship cats on the ship and that's the only seasickness yeah and I was like, what's the only game I can think of is gonna be that I never played it

Dan Apsey:

me violently heavy breathing was question seven. I don't feel so good. Nemesis.

JP:

Nemesis yeah Nemisis cabin cabin.

Dan Apsey:

The cabin is one of the titles that

Davey:

cabin is a surgery

Dan Apsey:

to tiles cabin and surgery. Question eight over the next four and a half years I've managed to successfully manage my flax farm this was a tricky one fields of our fields of art anywhere else

Davey:

I put Feasts for Odin but it's not I bet it's probably gonna be Agricola it is

Dan Apsey:

just know that it is indeed Fields of Arle because it's impossible to get any other competition games at the base level

JP:

but I nearly went Hallertau because that has flax in it yesterday and then I was like, nice. Yeah, okay. Although not like that one either.

Dan Apsey:

Question Nine if you don't get this then you're crazy number nine. You just got covered in gunk Quacks of Quedlinburg. And finally, question 10 Simon taken a lovely look at this view.

Davey:

But tapestry you'd be wrong.

Dan Apsey:

You're very very good at mine. Jayples. Parks is indeed correct. It's really it isn't a parks. messa Verde is one of the it's one of the mountain ranges that you visit in parks. This concludes my round of the quiz. We

Rob:

did well they well. How did we do meet your staff?

Dan Apsey:

We seem to be going with the theme of 2 every round. I got 659999

JP:

rigged I think what he's doing I didn't know he's gonna go a thespian for 10 questions. I've been messaging each

Davey:

other all day sent him the answers. I just saw it on the phone. Oh, yeah.

JP:

Get one wrong. They say thank you. I hope you enjoyed that. A lot of energy, high energy for Christmas. You got it. You got it. Who's next? Me? Let's do it. Last round. There we go. So it's the fourth and final round. And before I go into my questions, I'm going to talk about my digital game I've been playing so I've had a little package arrive and it wasn't from Santa is another Kickstarter. So this was The Gig by brain crack games. And I back this ages ago as a bit of a whim back that you do sometimes on Kickstarter, anything that's kind of reasonably priced looks like a lot of fun. Let's give it a go. So the gig has a roll and writes a real time kind of roll and write game where you're all aspiring jazz musicians. And we're already already in on this, that is the themes kind of set in like 1960s Jazz bars. And you kind of have a little setlist of six songs that you will play, and you get this song but with it, which you'll say little song for is this. And on the song book, you'll basically just like sheet music, but with dice placements across six rows based on the numbers one to six, the dice, and they'll have all the little musical notes as numbers, which is quite cute. And you pick an instrument that you want to play like drums, trumpet, sax, whatever. And each instrument has its own kind of power. And also load of symbols all arranged in the instrument instrument shape. But what I really liked about it, when me and Josh played with all just give it a quick go and plays in 20 minutes. So it's like, pretty much done and dusted and the way you go, but you kind of start the round and the song and you count in he says count in like 321 Go and then you at the same time rolling your four dice, in real time into little dice tray. And it has to be in the dice tray. If it doesn't go and dice tray doesn't count. And as soon as you get the number, you want to place it onto the song sheet. And you're obviously blocking other people because you're gonna want to go there and you get these little bonus spots of the dice that you put on there. But the idea is that you're trying to put the dice or arrange the dice in the shape. So it could be like a Polyomino style shape or for dice in different arrangements. And once you put your fourth dice down, you have to say Take It to the Bridge, you have to say as soon as someone says Take It to the Bridge, everyone gets one more roll. And that's it and it kind of ends the round. And once everyone's kind of placed all the dice, you then draw that shape onto your instrument. And kinda the core groups because it's all jazz. And you're kind of circling around the different icons as multipliers on there. You can collect little symbols like sharps and flats, and they can help you modify dice to bump them up and burn them down or match certain dice numbers that you have. And yeah, and it's pretty much the game really. And you're collecting spotlights which is a VP kind of scoring source, but you can also spend the spotlights to in the applause step you can get fans and fans are like cards that you can get which can

Dan Apsey:

you get only fans and that is the only fans or anything else any fans

JP:

checking. Yeah. And you can kind of get the the fans cards in and as little endgame scoring bonuses and all that kind of stuff. But it's just a quick fun game. So it's

Dan Apsey:

you have me at the gig.

JP:

It's good laugh. It's, you know, it's not going to be I want to get bigger. It's not gonna be the best in the world, but it's a good opener. So if you're gonna play like a heavy game on the night, it's nice one to bring out the star and just warm everyone up and then God move on to the heavier game. So enjoyed it. Love it. Are we ready for some questions?

Dan Apsey:

We ready? Quizlet

JP:

was womanism y'all go 12012 That's exactly what you do. Yeah. Once you freak out for all that's Oh, no, you do? You do properly. And then if you want you just put jazz music in the background which Kerley will hate

Kerley:

He doesn't like jazz music. No, it's horrible. It's discordant.

Adrian:

Depending on the type of jazz.

Kerley:

What do you call it when you'd like make it up on the sly freeform and whatever it is when you make it up and do jazz clubs when you just read it together? Sounds like

JP:

interested? Not interested?

Kerley:

But yeah, not for me. Anyway. Ready?

Adrian:

He's waiting to go.

JP:

Ready? Question one. As you all know, I like too many bones I'm not I'm not like given the same energy as Dan's I'm really like annoyed that have followed him or should have put you at the end. Sorry.

Adrian:

I don't think too many bones how many chips comes in the night? No, no,

JP:

no. does not follow in you know,

Adrian:

like a multiple choice at least for those kind of ones.

JP:

Yeah, all right. I'm gonna mix in so as you know, like too many bones. No, yeah. I just want you to name one of the five gearlocs that came in the unbreakable content, which is the latest series of expansion, the latest latest ones and there's five and anyone who's listened to the podcast episode four would know them. And I've talked about them enough. So latest ones, the latest ones.

Rob:

I've played as one

JP:

you have played as one Rob do and just want one of them not Asking for all five I've put a put a wrong answer this one I'm sure it's comical question too

Adrian:

in too many bones

JP:

it's too many. Let's go kid in question two we all love well I do love a bit of netrunner. I'm out and I want you to name two out of the four corporations where you got this well I just don't know

Kerley:

it a go go like so display for naming all four

JP:

no. Please just get smug points

Rob:

I thought about this the other day

Dan Apsey:

Yeah, it was it late at night

JP:

that's such madness. Man me

Dan Apsey:

thinking about heavy breathing because that's something inside me.

Kerley:

Back off Adrian

Adrian:

I've written mine I put cybertwat and digital Dickhead. So

JP:

Ah Hi, that deserves a point, how did you know, did you look at my answers. Question three. In Dune Imperium

Kerley:

Good man.

Dan Apsey:

Have you two been, you know,

JP:

Dune Imperium, we obviously have the coloured spaces. We have the yellow triangles, the green circles, I think and then the blue squares. What are the green spaces at the top of the board? collectively known as? It's not an I'll give you a hint. Is this something Council? knows you hidden?

Rob:

How close does it contain the same letters as

Dan Apsey:

how I put ink to paper?

JP:

Yeah. Okay, number four. In cloudspire. Go. There's a game of tower defence and there are many factions. And they're all fighting over a resource. What is that resource called? Gotta go gonna really difficult because you want to know it's

Dan Apsey:

a valuable commodity?

Adrian:

What do you mean, you could have gone really difficult on that one so far? I don't know any of them.

Dan Apsey:

I'm just saying. I don't think I've got

Kerley:

this one at all. Yeah, later, once and I hated it. Yeah, absolutely.

Dan Apsey:

Used to give you hate again. No, it's nothing. It's not many.

Kerley:

I saw the advantages to cloudspire but it's just not a game for me.

JP:

Alright, question five. Name the brand new mindclash play title, recently announced a week ago. Literally something like that. It's shot up the hotness on Board Game Geek. And you should know because I posted it in our WhatsApp chat group. So near the one that I don't really Yeah.

Adrian:

So it was mindclash. So mute board game

JP:

now, isn't it? Topical? Sure. You should have done last time you brought the energy up. Sorry. I'm sorry. My fault. Bad planning. Well, that was question five. So take a little break. Rob. Hello, partner in crime. Hello. What's your hex mate? Can

Rob:

I go with two? I know my breaking. Very, very, really told off for trying to do that. Yes, but I'm not gonna go in depth because the games that have been covered quite a lot on the podcast. So at grid con, I played Big Boy game. Big Boy. And I played Ark Nova. I'm so fucking proud of you. And I absolutely loved it. Yeah, I thought it was fantastic. I absolutely loved it. It was with the expansion. Obviously, the Kerley's brought their game. And, and yeah, and it was brilliant. But I did get a lot of help. I got a lot of explanations to the point where Stu was calculating how much money it was getting every round, because I couldn't figure it out. But I loved it, I thought was fantastic. And the other thing, we played another game at Gridcon that we decided to do a night of seven wonders. Yeah, and we played it with all the expansions. Fun that was and it was great. And I turned up on one. So I was more than happy. You did. We managed to get three games in it. It was pure luck. I'll admit that. But you were late. Yeah, I joined in and second game. It's a way it wasn't late. I had childcare responsibilities. To be fair, he did let me know and unfortunately it's kind of against the law just to leave them apparently. So, but no, I loved it. It was really, really fun night. I loved it. I thought it was fantastic. It

JP:

It was our first play of Armada right? right yeah which none of us have played and that was a good fun that's a nice nice little dynamic that you guys went all in on yeah it was no it wasn't it oh ship tracks let's do a bit of shipping but it was great yeah allows you to kind of combat not your neighbours but your neighbours neighbours and things like that sneak into in your little bugger. I know I apologise All right, let's get back to torturing Adrian right

Adrian:

right these are other five games Adrian also hasn't played ever

JP:

Lorenzo il magnifico played one is known for its four towers on the board which are green blue, yellow and purple. And I'll be I'll make this a bit easier name at least one of these towers by its official name I've never played it

Rob:

Isengard I'm guessing that's not

Kerley:

due till we get anything for that

JP:

just give it give it a go and I'll say Oh, nice I feel good. Number seven in Nemesis named the alien species which multiplies by devouring other members of its species and gets worse and worse and worse as you let them

Kerley:

scale one expansion I haven't played yet. I know what I think yeah, I

Dan Apsey:

think I know why does it take ah funny because I've written that

JP:

number right. In Burncycle you plays robots infiltrating corporations try not to get detected but as an optional upgrade you can get magnetic miniatures which go on the chips which theyre also bring out for too many bones very excited. What do chip theory games call these miniatures what is their name?

Dan Apsey:

They have wow

Kerley:

yeah baby only for Burncycle or a name in general for

JP:

the name for the for that they're calling for Burnside bought and shipped to me the other name the

Rob:

first thing I looked at when I got the game from Gridcon might have bought too many bones didn't say you're gonna be difficult though.

Adrian:

I'm gonna Watson two's guide around you

Rob:

let somebody get like I feel one off. I'll let you have a point. Yeah.

JP:

So it was one of which is weird anything that would actually happen. Right write in Anachrony. All right. There are five player factions. Which base the five colours? Which colour? Is the path of salvation?

Kerley:

Salvation

JP:

if you want to know the colours of choice no,

Dan Apsey:

no

Rob:

he's angry he's given up now. Okay,

Adrian:

I'm not gonna get it so might as well on the others not

Rob:

they already know it though.

JP:

Wow. I'm not sure the last one

Dan Apsey:

in too many bones, in 20 strong.

Adrian:

I was like it is it's very strong.

JP:

In Vinhos by Vital Lacerda. There are two versions of the game based around two years. One's called one year vintage and the other one's called one year reserve name one of those years and it

Adrian:

just gets you think like no one think I know as well. But I'm both just in case.

Dan Apsey:

Can you put down both and then get a question get one mining

JP:

one get one right? Yeah, you're good. You can have two guesses if you like. Because there's two years to guess.

Kerley:

Well, I've got one in probably what 200 years probably. Yeah,

JP:

so Ken's when you think it is? Yours weren't as easy as well, Kerley?

Kerley:

Yep, I'm allowed to if it's me. Okay, fair enough.

Adrian:

It's more easy than yours by a longshot.

JP:

I don't know. Did I do the just round?

Adrian:

You did do these round. Yeah. But it was fun.

Dan Apsey:

I'm the newbie by it. Well done.

Adrian:

Last episode. No, I did.

JP:

Name one of the five gear locks. Introducing unbreakable. Dave

Rob:

The only one I can think of is Riffle

Adrian:

but I feel as well but he's a

Dan Apsey:

bouncer technically. I don't know why that came to my head. I'm

JP:

sure it's one of the five he's a puzzle related performance. Gain

Adrian:

found but he's not in the box. So I was like I'll put Riffle, and it'd be wrong.

JP:

No, not at all. No, not a scooby? I can't remember. You could have Figment, Gale, static, Polaris or Carcass. You played as Gale, Rob. Well, you've literally played as one you've got no,

Kerley:

I remember you telling me about Figment now Yeah,

JP:

time travel baby. Name two of the four corps in Netrunner. jinteki Yeah.

Rob:

And that's the only one. I said our soccer but that's just because it's from soccer.

Kerley:

Yeah, we have Haas-bioroid, NBN and Wayland yeah I wrote

Dan Apsey:

KC and the Sunshine Band. That's

JP:

not right. And you we already got your answer. Yeah, cybertwat and digital dickhead

Rob:

One point for Jintekki and

JP:

your point when you're on my team is really easy for us. But it will be poopooed on it so let's say no. All right. Number three Dune Imperum the green spaces are called

Kerley:

I went for high council but I wasn't confident I changed it twice.

Dan Apsey:

I went for the green spaces Council. I thought that was the

JP:

Galactic Council that the green spaces Council the High Council aged

Adrian:

political politics slash Imperial

JP:

it's the Landsraad Council.

Dan Apsey:

That was my second guest

JP:

Okay, well, you played it enough before you might know that Green space that gets me stuff. Fair enough. Fair enough.

Adrian:

The yellow and blue don't have space names do they? Because it's just like

JP:

on their own on Yeah, but the big Council does totally fair. I

Kerley:

play a lot of spice wards and you do a Landsraad vote every few months I should have got it, seems just just

JP:

planning to play that Okay, right. Now the main resource and cloudspire while everyone's fighting over obviously and obtaining so its Source. Source source not tomato probably as in like the source of something okay. Name the new mindclash play title shot the hotness I

Dan Apsey:

know first bit was right I in cloud I put this not as its own something in it. You're

JP:

very close Yeah, is it what is it? Anyone else? And I even close?Ironwood

Dan Apsey:

Ironwood was close down it to get off points.

Kerley:

I've got

Dan Apsey:

to answer What's your answer that was that was a sympathy point. You've won this because of that. 9 pointer The last one Yeah.

Rob:

Yeah. Well, yeah, that did seem good to

JP:

Lorenzo il magnifico name at least one of the four Towers

Kerley:

agriculture for the green one

Dan Apsey:

do our tips McGee

JP:

No. Tower swallows No. I really

Kerley:

think about maybe motion or something. I was

Adrian:

I couldn't even remember what the towers did. That's how long it isn't.

Kerley:

I don't I'm not I'm not worried.

JP:

You could have had green which is territories. You could have a blue which is characters. Okay. Buildings were yellow buildings and Ventures were purple. Okay, so lost on you. Over your apologies. Alright Nemesis name the alien species which multiplies by devouring other members I think

Kerley:

of it at the end. Because you are

Dan Apsey:

Carnomorphs, is it carnival carnival I wrote terrible by men. carnivores.

JP:

You got one you've wrote? Yeah,

Dan Apsey:

I couldn't vote.

Kerley:

Yeah. All right. Men territories when I read because it's

Dan Apsey:

on the tip of my tongue and it was something morphs.

JP:

Yeah. Right. Question eight In burncycle you play as robots robots blah, blah, blah, blah. You can get the minis that magnetise.

Dan Apsey:

Magmachs, but I use my imagination. magmechs

JP:

Brass mags,

Rob:

all I knew is mag something brass mags.

Adrian:

Oh, all made out of brass the metal.

Kerley:

He's doing the tough questions again. Yeah.

Adrian:

You complained of mine.

JP:

I thought those are generally easier. But yeah, if you just love chip Theory, well, you know, these new things haven't come out yet. It's for the listeners. Listening by this point, In Anachrony What colour is the path of salvation

Kerley:

or orange? Red, white,

Dan Apsey:

green, red, orange,

JP:

Red.

Dan Apsey:

I was one

JP:

isn't an orange one. Anyway,

Dan Apsey:

the reason is orange and it's a dark

JP:

blue and green before you either got red, blue, green, yellow. It's

Dan Apsey:

not really red though. It's kind of an orange. Alright, whatever I'm taking

Adrian:

an ironclad

JP:

must be fairly generous. Right. Last question. What are the, name one of the two years that are on the one side or either side of the board of in Vinhos

Kerley:

1848 Obviously,

JP:

wrong

Dan Apsey:

2011 Wrong 2017

JP:

Wrong bugger not 1993 no 2016 and 2020 Adrian gets it right for one of them 2016 is right and 1983 The answer is 2010 Vintage in 2016 reserve

Adrian:

to 2010

JP:

2010 is the original rules consistent consistent and there we have it for let's do a little adding up and then we'll come back and see what's happened.

Dan Apsey:

Oh, I'm gonna use my fingers and my toes

JP:

Well, I want to go round each team starting with you Dan the baldbles the ball balls let me see

Dan Apsey:

we had a good we had a good run then. We love it. Yeah. But we finished on eight points. Eight

JP:

points out of 40. Yeah. We

Dan Apsey:

last round that last round right before that last round happened. I thought I knew quite a lot about boardgames turns out. I know fuck. All.

JP:

Right. Just all about the board games that other people have no idea.

Rob:

Yeah, no, I did. You didn't know the stuff about board games that you've played? No, no,

Dan Apsey:

I don't know anything. I'll just say I'm just here for the giggles

JP:

gone and Kerleyklaus. scored 15 15 Nice probably. And the the Christmas spirit Island 16. What did we get Rob.

Rob:

I severely let the side down. I scored one point. Always. Yeah. We still got 14

Adrian:

I was trying to do the math in my head.

JP:

So we have the winner. That's good. That was good.

Dan Apsey:

Well done. Well done.

JP:

Take the crown of the Quizmas this year. So well, you and Davey who went last year? me obviously. Yeah, so the crown. Oh, nice. Is there a physical crown if we run this again, I thought Oh, shit. So we're quite glad that actually you guys got it. It's quite close apart from dan's team on it. Yeah,

Dan Apsey:

we did. We did good. Yeah, that's it's taking part that counts.

JP:

That is the episode and hopefully you guys listening kind of followed along as best as you could. And hopefully had a bit of fun on this lovely Christmas Day. Let's know your scores. We want to know if you did better than us. But that's not difficult. And yeah, let us know scores, post them in their channels and all that kind of stuff. So all that's left to say from us really is to kind of wish you all Merry Christmas, obviously as this is released this Christmas Day. So hopefully you've had a good time. What a Christmas present that is, eating loads of food. You may be a little bit pissed. It's all good. And we're obviously we're going to enjoy ours as well. So yes, that's it. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. Happy Hanukkah.

Dan Apsey:
